CEO ADDRESS A s we approach the end of the first quarter of 2018, I am proud of the growth we have already seen this year and am excited about what the rest of 2018 will bring. In this issue of The North Pinellas Hearbeat, you will learn about some exciting hospital updates. Recently, we were able to make a compensation adjustment to many team members at FHNP that went into effect on January 21, 2018. You can read more about this adjustment on page 2. We are also launching a new Arc page, which will look more like a news-feed that can be personalized to show what news and updates you would like to see. We are very excited to annouce that the Florida Hospital North Pinellas Foundation has reached its goal of $5 million for the renovation of the Emergency Room at our hospital, with the help of a very special donor. Learn more about the family we will be honoring in a letter from Daniel Richardson on page 6. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication throughout the first couple months of 2018, I look forward to continuing to serve with you throughout the year. Yours in Service,

HOSPITAL UPDATES 2018 COMPENSATION ADJUSTMENT Effective January 21, 2018, all Regular Full and Part-time staff who were employed in their current position prior to August 1, 2017 and received a satisfactory or better annual performance review received a 2% adjustment, which was realized in the check paid on February 9, 2018. It was extremely important to Administration to provide our team members with this performance adjustment as a “thank you”. We are very grateful to the hard work and dedication every team member provided during 2017.
JOINT COMMISSION SURVEY UPDATE The Joint Commission has changed their way of communication regarding risk levels associated with deficiencies cited during surveys. This Survey Analysis for Evaluating Risk (SAFER) approach provides organizations with additional information related to risk deficiencies to help prioritize and focus corrective actions. The model’s Y axis identifies the likelihood to harm a patient, visitor or staff and the X axis identifies how often they see the deficiency. For example, one employee observed not washing hands exiting a patient room may be low and limited but three may be moderate and a pattern. The goals for the change in the scoring process is to simplify them, enhance their relevancy to accredited organizations, increase transparency within the accreditation process and utilize innovative approaches.
*It’s important that all staff wash their hands going in and out of rooms for patient safety!
ARC HOMEPAGE REDESIGN As part of our efforts to continually improve Arc/ Insite, we’re rolling out a new, feed-based home page to Florida Hospital North Pinellas on March 13, 2018. No other intranet page, including team sites, will change. With the new home page, team members will be able to customize their user experience by picking topics that interest them. Other content will be delivered to them based on their location and department.

FHNP PARKING POLICY Please review the FHNP Parking and Vehicle Registration Policy and Map, which is located on the Arc on the Facilities department page. A couple items we would like to highlight: • Employees should not be parking on Country Club Ct. This is the road located by the entrance next to Administration and physician parking. Parking on this road, including the right-hand side, is not permitted. • An area that is not included in the policy is the parking area now available due to the motel demolition. You are currently able to park in this area, however, if you park there it is at your own risk. • Employees are not permitted to park in any physician parking spaces at any time. If your car is not registered, it will be ticketed. To register your vehicle or update your vehicle information, contact Dan Greive at Daniel.Greive@ahss.org.

FOUNDATION UPDATE
FLORIDA HOSPITAL NORTH PINELLAS FOUNDATION | CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The Florida Hospital North Pinellas Foundation has reached its fundraising goal of $5 million for our onsite ER renovations. We would like to share this special message from Dan Richardson, previous Foundation Board Chair, about the special people we will honor through one of the major donations to the campaign. Carl and Phyllis Dalton lived their lives helping Christian causes, as well as other worthy causes. They loved children and adopted four and raised them as their own. They built several businesses from a welding supply company to a generic drug company. Carl was a pilot and owned a few planes. One day while preparing for takeoff, Phyllis took the stick and Carl laughed and said she could taxi, but not fly the plane. Phyllis showed him her pilots license, she had secretly taken lessons so she could do her share of flying. During their lives, they never wanted recognition because, to quote Carl, “...I do not want the right hand to know what the
left hand was doing.” Upon their death, they created a foundation to continue their giving activities and this legacy will go on for many years to come. I was very honored to be asked to run this foundation. Here is a story that sums up how Carl lived. Years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and demonstrating cognitive decline I stopped by to see Carl. While there I asked him if he needed anything and he responded, “a million Dollars.” I asked do you want cash or a check? He said, “from you, cash!” Then he smiled. I asked what would he do with another million dollars and he smiled and said, “give it away.”
As Trustee and President of the Dalton Foundation, I wanted a beneficiary that would carry on their life’s work of helping others and I could not think of a better recipient than the Florida Hospital North Pinellas Emergency Room Expansion. Not only is Florida Hospital a Christian based organization, but also this donation will impact every patient that enters its doors and it’s a gift that will continue giving for many years to come. The gift of healing and perhaps life is the best one can give. In addition, they will finally receive the recognition they deserve as their names will prominently be displayed on the ER.
Thank you to Dan for his integral support of the capital campaign.
