A Word From Our President Contact Jeni Hinojosa: jennifer.hinojosa@ahss.org or (727) 943-3463 As we arrive at the halfway point of 2016, I would like to highlight some of the wonderful things Florida Hospital North Pinellas has done, and plans to do, this year. Not only has construction begun on our off-site emergency room, but the project in Palm Harbor is slated to open late November. We have also started construction on a new Medical Office Building off Alt-19, which is scheduled to open late this Summer.

We have also been able to recognize many wonderful employees this past quarter. We held our annual Nurses’ Week Awards, many Just Because recognitions, our semi-annual Employee Service Awards, and our Quarterly Awards, which highlighted outstanding employees who go above and beyond in their work every day. We recently held our 4th Annual Ask the Experts event, which brought a crowd of over 700 people. If you missed it, make sure to mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Girl Talk event on October 25th. We are also excited to have Dr. Longley back at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center on October 1st to host a night of music benefitting our Medical Outreach Mission Team’s trip to India next March. Thank you all for your continued dedication to our hospital and community. I wish you and your families a safe and happy summer season. Yours in Service,

Karen Owensby Interim President/CEO and Chief Clinical Officer

Palm Harbor ER Update Construction is well on its way at our new off-site ER in Palm Harbor. You may have started to notice that the walls are up. In addition, the underground plumbing was completed, the foundation was poured and they have started working on the new driveway. The new 24-bed facility will be a full-service emergency room (ER) providing emergency care 24- hours a day, seven-days-a-week. The ER will be staffed with physicians and nurses who specialize in emergency medicine, and will also include onsite X-ray, ultrasound, CT-scan, and laboratory services.

Our Caring NevER Stops...And NeithER does the Need As our population grows, we want to ensure that people who live and work in the region continue to have access to an emergency department that provides advanced medical services. That’s why we need your help to accommodate the increasing numbers of patients who depend on the emergency department for life-threatening emergencies and non-emergent outpatient and ambulatory care. Once completed, the enhancements will: • Streamline emergency care • Address capacity issues • Provide patients with more privacy • Decrease patient wait times, and improve patient satisfaction • Create jobs and a positive economic impact on the community, as the largest employer in the City of Tarpon Springs As an employee of Florida Hospital North Pinellas, you know the caliber of care we offer and the fulfillment that comes from Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ to your neighbor. Please join us in supporting this important initiative to enhance emergency care for patients today and into the future. With your participation, we have the unique opportunity to change the face of emergency care. Contact the Helen Ellis Memorial Foundation at (727) 943-3651 to participate in our campaign.

Patient Appreciation The Telemetry Department recently cared for a patient who was a retired nurse. She could not say enough nice things about the staff and the nursing care that was provided during her recent stay. She collected names of the numerous individuals who cared for her while she was here, decorated these lovely candles for each person on her list, and delivered them to the telemetry floor, along with the most beautiful card!

Nurses’ Week Community Outreach This year, Florida Hospital North Pinellas nurses gave back to the community in various ways throughout Nurses’ Week 2016. TCU worked in the local food pantry in addition to collecting clothes and baby items for the CAP center in Tarpon Springs. They also participated in the community baby shower assisting local mothers who needed help during their pregnancy. 5th Floor Surgery collected dresses to donate to Belle of the Ball, an organization that provides homecoming and prom dresses to high school girls who may not be able to afford a dress for their dance.

Biggest Loser

Weight Loss Challenge

Each year the hospital sponsors a Weight Loss Challenge as part of our Employee Wellness program. We had 90 enrolled participants in this year’s program, double the number of participants in 2015, and we had an exceptional completion rate at 70%! As a group we lost 285 pounds this year! Congratulations to each and every one of you for taking the time and making the effort to improve your health and eating habits! This year’s Biggest Losers were: Brian Bolcar, Imaging Services Donald Belles, Patient Access Aneta Arvanitis, Patient Access Holly Cavanaugh, Surgical Services Anastasia Kapetanopoulos, Dietary Services The success of this year’s program is in large part due to Katie Leahy, MS RDN LD/Clinical Dietitian and Chef David Riposo who went above and beyond in their support. Thank you to Katie for taking time to meet with participants on an individual basis, the valuable information provided in both her weekly emails and our Lunch & Learn events and of course for sponsoring our Cardio Kickboxing classes! Thank you to Chef David for taking time to prepare such healthy and excellent meals for our Lunch & Learn events in the midst of his already hectic days! The Biggest Loser Challenge is over, but the challenge of maintaining our achievements and new lifestyle continues.

Ask the Experts 2016 Dinner with the Docs Our 4th Annual Ask the Experts Dinner with the Docs was held on June 22, 2016 at Innisbrook Golf Resort and Spa. Over 700 people were there from the community including physicians, employees and sponsors. It was a wonderful evening filled with screenings, massages, vendor visits, dinner and a raffle. The question and answer session with our panelists (Dr. Donald Ayres, Dr. Christopher Grayson, Dr. Raj Kotak, Dr. Rajneesh Mathur, Dr. Vinod Raxwal, and Dr. Donald Vierling) was the highlight of the evening. A new feature we offered this year was a walk through our Mega Heart Exhibit. A large inflatable heart was brought to Inverness Hall Wednesday evening so community members could walk through and learn about the different areas of the heart, as well as certain conditions. If members had an questions, they were able to ask Cardiologist, Dr. Raxwal. Thank you to Christine Longley, Director of Community Outreach and Volunteer Services, for putting on this great event every year.
