Merry Christmas I cannot believe another year has come and gone, but what a great year it has been at Florida Hospital North Pinellas. There have been so many additions to our hospital this year, and there have been so many things to celebrate as well. As a hospital network, we have partnered with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and with Tampa General Hospital. Both of these initiatives will allow Florida Hospital to become a partner in health and promote healthier lives to residents in the Tampa Bay and surrounding areas. As all of you are probably aware, we have a new member to the FHNP family. Coach, our da Vinci surgical robot, is another great addition that will allow us to better serve our patients. With patient care as our primary focus, we are happy to report improved overall patient satisfaction scores within the hospital. Additionally, we have just received an “A” rating in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group for the second year in a row. Congratulations to all on these great accomplishments! It is important that our hospital remain a household name and one of the ways we do that is through our Community Outreach programs. The reviews of our first annual Girl Talk event were amazing. As we position ourselves as experts and leaders in health care, we are making lasting relationships with the community that allow us to become a trusted partner in people’s personal health care decisions.

The hospital is so blessed to have the support of the Foundation, Terry and Neila. Without the Foundation, Operation Sunshine, our new da Vinci robot, and so many other things would not be possible. It is through their fundraising efforts such as Doctor Idol Tampa Bay that we are able to expand the reach of our hospital. Thank you both for all your hard work, and thank you to those who support the Foundation as well. Our hospital staff is full of shining stars. Every First Tuesday, I and the Administration team like to recognize each of you for a continued job well done. Without each of you, our hospital would not be able to achieve such great success. Our Environmental Services team is full of shining stars; these hardworking individuals come in every day and keep our hospital in tip-top shape. Great teams are a product of great leadership, and Reggie does a fantastic job. We couldn’t be happier with his willingness, passion and dedication to serve our hospital and our community. The holiday season is upon us, it’s my favorite time of year. To me, the holiday’s represent love, family, faith and hope. Through the actions of you all, whether it’s caring for patients, greeting visitors, or even through donating items to those in need, it instills in me the faith I have in the Lord and the faith I entrust into every one of you every day. It is my hope that this holiday season you are able to extend your service to others, open your hearts to love, and enjoy not only your families, but also the family we have here at Florida Hospital North Pinellas. I look forward to spending 2014 with you, and I wish each of you many blessings in the New Year!

Girl Talk
Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
Girl Talk Girl Talk
Our First Annual Girl Talk event was hosted at Innisbrook on October 30. It is no surprise that this Healthy Happenings event was beyond successful. “We captured the interest of attendees ranging from age 14 - 88. I call that a success,” said Chritine Longley, Manager, Community Outreach and Volunteer Services. Everythin g You When all was said and the event was attended by Wan teddone, to Know But e Afraid to Ask 1,110 Wer people!
In just a short hour and a half (before dinner was served), our vendors, doctors, staff and volunteers performed many screenings. We screened 125 people for blood pressure, held 102 glucose screenings, 54 foot and ankle screenings, 50 nail fungus screenings, and with the Pink Army present, we were able to schedule 12 mammograms! If word of mouth wasn’t enough, hopefully the numbers show you that this isn’t an event you want to miss next year. In true Christine fashion, we know we can expect to see it even bigger and better in 2014! Way to go, Christine!
GirlDoctor Talk Girl Talk Idol Returns for Season 2! Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask Doctor Idol Tampa Bay Season 2 was a night of great fun, fundraising and entertainment. Terry Smither, Neila O’Neill, and 2013 Chairperson, Rosemary Giuliano, led the event to great success. Over $85,000 was raised in sponsorship this year and over 400 people attended! Net proceeds from the event allow for FHNPs already successful program, Operation Sunshine, to continue to provide education and screenings to the schools, community and industry of Pinellas County.
Doyle’s Revenge, last year’s winner, Dr. Roca with Mary and the MDs, Dr. Fine, Triple Haze, Strange Brew and Dr. Longley all competed this year for bragging rights of Doctor Idol Tampa Bay. After pulling at our heart strings, filling our ears with amazing violinist skills, and incorporating Tarpon Springs very own Mt. Hermon Baptist Church choir, Dr. Longley received a standing ovation. We are happy to announce Dr. Longley as the winner of Doctor Idol Tampa Bay 2013. Congratulations, Dr. Longley!
Are You Ready For Your Close-up, North Pinellas? As many of you have heard by now… FHNP is going Hollywood! That’s right, we have been chosen as the hospital for the filming of Dolphin Tale 2. Mid-December we can expect to see some new faces around campus as the team from Dolphin Tale 2 comes to our campus. Though we cannot share the storyline, we can all be super excited at the possibility of our 15 minutes of fame! Way to go, FHNP!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year… Thank you all for your generosity and giving this holiday season. The Thanksgiving Food Basket contest and the Green Bean collection have become a tradition here and we’re happy to see Sometimes the the selflessness you all show through your many smallest of gestures donations throughout can bring the the whole year and biggest of smiles. the holiday season. Everyone could use a little help from time to time and we must remember how blessed we are to have the means and opportunity to help others. Sometimes the smallest of gestures can bring the biggest of smiles.
Corks For a Cause? Why, yes! Corks for a cause and cards, too! The corks and cards collection continues this year as Dr. Norman and his wife, Sherri, collect corks and cards that will be made into fun crafts and sold to support local children’s charities. The cards don’t have to be Christmas cards, any card will do. Please feel free to drop off your donated corks and cards to Dr. Norman on the 2nd floor.
‘Tis the Season…
Make sure and mark your calendars for Monday, December 9. Join Chef David, Alan and the Food Services team for a special holiday meal. Come hungry because you know Chef David will not disappoint. Maybe he’ll even bring us some figgy pudding!

There are two things Florida Hospital North Pinellas shares with the Bahamas... 1. Its (close proximity to) stellar beaches. 2. Its love for Reggie Dorsett.
Many of you may know Reggie as the Director of Environmental Services. Perhaps you know him as “Reg” from EVS. Or maybe you just know him as the guy that always says hello and smiles. Did you know that he’s from the Bahamas? Okay, many of us know that. Did you know that he has two gorgeous nieces and a beautiful wife that he absolutely adores? Alright, alright, you know that, too (he’s a proud Uncle and husband). Did you know that he was in the play “Jesus Christ Superstar” or that his favorite pastime is hanging Christmas lights on his house or that he was a model? How about the fact that Michael Mewhirter gave his fish tank to Reggie, there’s no way you knew that! Well… we learn something new every day, don’t we?
6
FHNP is fortunate to have Reggie, who came to us from Florida Hospital Waterman after being recruited from fellow Waterman Alum, our very own CFO, Michael Mewhirter. During his time at Waterman, Reggie instituted a “Back to School” program that helps to collect school supplies for those who may be in need of a little extra help. He also began the annual cookbook program that allowed employees to share their most favorite recipes with one another. One of his greatest compliments during his time at Waterman was from then hospital President/ CEO, Ken Mattison, when he told Reggie he was a godsend for all his hard work and involvement within the hospital; we couldn’t agree more.
“One of the things I keep learning is that the secret of being happy is doing things for other people.” Dick Gregory
If you ever get the opportunity to talk with Reggie, you will immediately pick up on his selfless attitude. One of his favorite quotes stays in his shirt pocket nearly every day; it’s from Dick Gregory, an American comedian, it says, “One of the things I keep learning is that the secret of being happy is doing things for other people.” Reggie says his philosophy in life is, “To serve others. That’s what leadership is,” says Reggie. “I’d give you the shirt off my back. That’s just me.” Reggie enjoys volunteering, not just for hospital-related events, but also within his community. This year he was very active with both the hospital and community by joining the Relay For Life of Tarpon Springs where he was active in his team and through fundraising efforts. This November, he continued serving others by involving himself in a very large project that joined the Citizens Alliance for Progress, Tarpon Springs residents, KaBOOM!, and the Tampa Bay Rays to construct a playground that will provide more than 300 children in the Tarpon Springs area with a safe place to play every week. It has been said that God gives us two hands, one to help ourselves and one to help others; in Reggie’s case, this proves to be quite true. Perhaps he was just built that way, you know, to care for others. Or perhaps it was instilled in him by his wonderful mother. Reggie is a self-proclaimed “Mama’s Boy” and he’s “proud of it!” When he shared about his mom, he couldn’t have smiled any bigger. He spoke from the heart and said, “My mom was my idol. She was my philosopher. She was my everything.”
Though Reggie is a fantastic Director of our all-star Environment Services team, his professional career actually started in a kitchen. With a passion for cooking (hence the cookbook idea) and serving others, Reggie began working in the food and beverage and hospitality industry. He took many courses and even had his own catering business for a while. Reggie still very much enjoys cooking as a hobby. No matter his job, no matter his volunteer work, Reggie said he performs his job everyday as if he’s “working for Christ.”

Coach
What’s Happening
ASK ME ABOUT
OUR DA VINCI SURGICAL ROBOT As you all have heard by now, we have added a new member to our family here at FHNP. Coach is a da Vinci surgical robot that allows for minimally invasive procedures to be performed on patients with a variety of needs. And, when we say minimally invasive – we mean it! Most procedures require incisions no longer than three-fourths of an inch. Though Coach is GREAT, he is a robot so he does not perform the surgeries himself; his arms are navigated by our very own doctors peering through highly magnified lenses. So now when you have someone ask you about Coach, you can brag about how great he is!
Dr. Norman Takes Home the Gold Did you hear the news about our very own Dr. Norman? He was named as one of EmCare’s South Division Medical Directors of the Year for 2013! Everyone knows just how shy Dr. Norman is… Here’s what he had to say about the acknowledgement (grab your tissues ladies and gentlemen), “I’m proud to be a part of two excellent health care organizations, I feel like Florida Hospital North Pinellas and EmCare are one big extended family for me, and I can always count on them. It is wonderful being appreciated and recognized for doing my job, especially when I thoroughly enjoy what I do. Thank you to my fellow employee’s, leaders and Administration team that make my job fun.” Thank you, Dr. Norman! We enjoy working with you!
Ryan’s a Dad! It seemed as though the whole hospital was anxiously awaiting the arrival of first-time-dad Ryan’s new baby boy. Well, wait no more folks, Baby Grella is here! Everyone please welcome Logan Grella… isn’t he adorable?

The Environmental Services Team at FHNP Reggie Dorsett, Director of Environment Services at Florida Hospital North Pinellas, believes in having a strong team. He says, “My employees are an inspiration to me. This hospital has accomplished great things and it couldn’t have been done without the Environmental Services team.” He goes on to say, “In order to reach your customer, you have to reach your employees, and our employees are our eyes and ears.” Thank you to our Environmental Services team for keeping Florida Hospital North Pinellas sparkling from the inside out.
