Bruce, Dr. Reintgen and the Bucs!

Our beloved “Biggest Losers” and Coach Amanda.

Our Hospital’s Blessings I am continually amazed at the quality of work and the level of dedication at which our employees perform. Whether clinical or non-clinical, every single employee plays a part in the successful daily operation of our hospital. The Administration and leadership teams recognize the importance of acknowledging employees for greatness. You can now continue encouraging one another with Star Service Awards; contact your department Director for more information.

In speaking to great achievement, I would like to recognize our MIS team on all of their continued hard work. Without their support we would not have been able to achieve such great distinction in health care. All of this would not have been possible without the great leadership of former MIS Director, Cisco Manalo. Cisco, Janet Jones and their teams have all been an integral part in making so many great strides for Florida Hospital North Pinellas and for that I say, thank you.

Florida Hospital North Pinellas continues to advance greatly in accomplishments and satisfaction.

Florida Hospital North Pinellas continues to advance greatly in accomplishments and satisfaction. Brenda Roberts and the Emergency Department team continue to raise the bar, meet and exceed the needs of our patients. The great efforts and execution of our Emergency Department were recently recognized with a traveling trophy presented by the Adventist Health System. We have also been successful in changing perceptions in our community and gaining awareness for the quality care we provide. The hospital was recently honored with a silver award from national Healthcare Advertising Awards for our “I Choose” campaign that launched in 2012.

As a community hospital, we continue to insert ourselves in Pinellas and Pasco counties. The hospital was the Silver Sponsor at the Tarpon Springs Relay For Life chaired by Rosemary Giuliano which raised over $24,000 in the fight to end cancer. With Operation Sunshine, we have performed over 350 free skin cancer screenings to date to industry personnel throughout the community. Additionally, the hospital has joined with the Tarpon Springs Recreational Department by sponsoring the Music on the Beach concert series from July through November. I encourage all of you to come out and support the community and the hospital at these free family friendly concerts as well as other community events.

Special Thanks and Recognition

Nancy Tartaglia, aka “The Boss”,

was honored for the second quarter for her outstanding NonNursing Clinical Services. Nancy is a veteran for nominations of superior service, but with great service comes great reward… like being featured in The Pulse. “Nancy’s laugh and positive attitude are absolutely infectious,” says Carol Craft, Office Manager in the lab. Nancy is always willing to spearhead projects and take charge. She is noted as always being kind and lending an ear. Thank you, Nancy, for all you do!

Sherri “the Berry” Benoit,

nominated by Kate Shoemaker, Manager of Charge Services, was recognized as an exceptional employee of Support Services. Sherri is dependable and always accountable. She has been recognized by the Tampa Bay Emergency Physicians Group for her commitment to high quality financial service. “Sherri’s gentle approach to resolutions is an asset to our facility,” says Kate. Thank you, Sherri, for all you do!

Would you like to recognize someone for Star Service? Perhaps they’ve demonstrated Great Leadership, shared a Great Idea, provided Great Inspiration or they perform and hold the Highest Standards as an employee. Now available on Arc are certificates for such acknowledgement. Print one out, fill in the blanks and send it over to the Star you’ve spotted.

Margaret Martinez

was speechless when she was recognized for her dedication to Nursing Services. “Margaret is always willing to step up to assist with the demands of the ever changing census,” commented Sue Sweet, Director of the Women’s Center. Margaret is known for her exceptional organizational skills, especially in emergency situations. Thank you, Margaret, for all you have done in your 19 years of service with the hospital!

We present this Great Idea to Alan Thomas, Director of Food Services. Thank you, Alan! Let’s continue to encourage one another and recognize the STARS at FHNP.

Superheroes

M.I.S. Mission Impossible The MIS team at our hospital has been recognized repeatedly for jobs well done over the past two years. From going paperless in 2012 to achieving HIMSS 7 and now being recognized as 2013 Most Wired Health System for excellence in IT, our MIS team ROCKS.

To better understand what being Most Wired means we turn to Cisco Manalo. “We have achieved a paperless system that increases patient safety, reduces medical errors and provides a workflow from nurse to doctor, seamlessly,” raved Cisco. AHS has been working towards this goal for the past 15 years. John McLendon, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer with AHS, applauded the efforts of the entire system’s IT teams. “[Achieving this distinction] would not be possible without the support of IT initiatives, and our team’s utilization of systems like CPOE, closed-loop medication and iNetwork, among others,” said Mr. McLendon. He went on to say “thank you” for yet another job well done. So what does MIS really stand for? Management Information System. What else do we call them? IT, the computer people, our resident geeks. But who are these people? Surely they don’t eat, sleep and breathe computers… right?

Meet Francisco “Cisco” Manalo,

the director of our MIS department… until his recent departure. Cisco came to us from the corporate office, formerly in Lake Mary, and ironically enough he is going back to the corporate office to be the Director of Web Services; he has worked for AHS for 15 years. Moving back to Orlando will give Cisco more time with his three energetic kids: Alex, Marcus and Francesca. In his spare time, Cisco enjoys sailing, shooting (at paper targets), and cheering on his college alma mater, FSU.

4

Meet Brett Peterson, the team’s leader, who has been in IT for over 20 years. Brett is the one who occasionally wears the bowtie, but always wears the fun glasses. He and his wife, Georgiann (also an AHS employee), have been married over 30 years and enjoy lunch together once a week in the lovely AllSpice Café! They have a brilliant daughter, Lauren, who excels at everything, and a super cute doggie named Molly. In his spare time Brett enjoys singing Johnny Cash songs and all things FSU.

Meet Stephen Zacharias aka Steve.

Steve is the tall, always smiling, “fire-putter-outer” of the IT department. Little known fact, Steve was actually born in Germany! “He could’ve been raised German,” said Steve’s colleague, Erin Farmer, “Isn’t that crazy?!” Steve has two adorable sons Jonathan and David. Jonathan is in Boy Scouts and David is in Cub Scouts. Steve is a very hands-on parent in the Scouts and is raising both boys to be ‘Noles fans.

Meet Tony Fresco,

former Airmen serving in the United States Air Force from April 1978 to February 1986. When honorably discharged, Tony was ranked an E-5, Staff Sergeant. Tony is the newest member to the team but he has worked with computers for over 15 years. For leisure, Tony root-root-roots for the home team, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Meet Erin “The Rock” Farmer.

Erin hales from the Peach State, though you could probably tell that by her Southern accent. Erin is a sports fan supporting the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Bulldogs. She also loves to read, listen to music and visit the happiest place on earth. Erin gets her nickname “The Rock” (or as she is also affectionately called by her teammates, “Rocky”) from a long and successful run as star volleyball player for the Stockbridge High School Tigers circa… it’s not really that important.

Meet Lee Kasner our Systems Analyst.

Lee stays behind the scenes but has been working for the hospital for 21 “glorious years” as he says. Lee enjoys a little college football action from time to time; he likes the Florida team that wears blue and orange. In his spare time he drives to Altamonte Springs to spread his expert IT knowledge with the corporate office. In the rest of his spare time he enjoys reading, biking and swimming. Not pictured, but nevertheless a huge part of the many IT accomplishments of our hospital are Jim Kiser, Senior Systems Analyst, Andre Wilson, Server Administrator, and Tom Zero, Clinical Applications Analyst.

Goin’ To The Chapel And They’re Gonna Get Married

Enter FHNP Wedding Coordinators Extraordinaire, Luann Andrews, Karen Owensby, Tiffany Scurlock, Mike Smithweck and others.

On the morning of July 4th a man came in complaining of chest pain, something he knew should be tended to but was afraid to visit because, if it was anything serious, he may miss his daughter’s evening wedding. Just as he feared, he was admitted. The daughter wanted her dad to be a part of this special occasion so she said they could just have the wedding here! And so they did. Complete with a cake and cake topper, decorations and music, the father walked his daughter down the aisle and gave her away in the hospital chapel. They even got to have the father/daughter dance. How sweet! Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple and thank you for letting us be a part of your special day! And, dad, we hope you get well soon!

Traveling Trophy Comes to

Congrats to our very own Emergency Department for receiving an award for patient flow at the recent AHS Patient Experience conference. Take a look at the fine staff that gets patients moving through the ER in a timely fashion. What a great looking bunch! Thanks to each and every one of you for your commitment to care, service and patient satisfaction. We love you guys and gals!

FHNP, Shows Its

ZEST For Life

Silver Sponsor for the Relay For Life of Tarpon Springs, FHNP was widely represented at this year’s event. Check out the “Cool Runnings” team decked out in tie-dye! Also present was Tarpon Springs Relay For Life Event Chair and soon-to-be baldie, Rosemary Giuliano. Together with Dr. Reintgen and Dave Sparks, Rosemary faced the shears. All three shaved their head to support the fight against cancer. Way to go, Relayers!
