our sixth formers at Francis Holland have achieved A*s in their Extended Projects; scoring full marks. Mrs Vivienne Durham, the Headmistress, said, “The Extended Project gives sixth formers an opportunity to achieve beyond A level. I am delighted at the outstanding results the Upper Sixth have gained, which reflects the intellectual commitment of both staff and pupils.”

A* Sixth Form Pupils
The Extended Project is a qualification taken in addition to A levels which is designed to challenge the most able students. This year, six FHS sixth formers chose subjects ranging from ‘How do writers get their message across under censorship?’ to ‘Why was rEPO developed and how has this caused problems for those in competitive sports?’
The 450 strong girls’ school puts its continued success down to the excellent academic results achieved in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Last Summer’s A level results, 88.4% A*-B grades, saw sixth form leavers heading off to a range of top universities including Oxford to read English and also Chemistry. FHS, however, offers so much more than pure academic success. Girls are happy and encouraged to fulfil themselves in other areas too. Sport, drama, music and art make a particularly strong contribution to the school’s lively extra-curricular schedule. For example the recent Sports Tour to South Africa is just one of the many sporting opportunities. The school has its own swimming pool and uses Regent’s Park for tennis, hockey, rounders and netball. There are two school orchestras, several choirs and a jazz band. Girls can choose from over 70 clubs and societies, including history and politics, jujitsu, cookery, water polo, Mandarin Chinese, gymnastics, yoga, kick-boxing and animal club.
