LETTER

FROM THE Chair

Dear Friends, Supporters and Partners, I am proud to share the incredible strides we have made over the past year intertwined with stories of those whose lives have been transformed through our efforts. This impact is the direct result of the hard work of staff and volunteers and the generosity of our donors and sponsors. This unwavering commitment has allowed us to expand our programs, foster new partnerships and make a difference where it matters most.

CPAs provide a tremendous service to capital markets and our communities. I encourage everyone to continue their support of the FICPA Scholarship Foundation so we can continue providing opportunities to those looking to become future CPAs.

Thank you for being the force that drives our success in this, our 65th year!

With heartfelt gratitude,

LETTER FROM THE Director

Thank you for your generous support of the FICPA Scholarship Foundation. Your commitment has helped us provide financial assistance to 67 deserving students who are the future of the accounting profession.

This year, to maintain the viability of the accounting profession pipeline, we focused heavily on building bridges between academic and professional practice to give our scholarship recipients a successful start in their careers. Helping students overcome financial and networking barriers and keeping our supporters’ firms staffed with talented professionals is a top priority.

Your contributions, participation in fundraising and networking initiatives and unwavering support are our mission in action and it means the world to a profession that is vital to individuals, businesses, nonprofits and the public sector.

With sincere appreciation,

Young Professionals

ACCOUNTING SCHOLARS LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM

This two-day invitational program was attended by 22 accounting students from 14 colleges and universities. They had the opportunity to increase their awareness of various careers in accounting, sharpen their interviewing and resume writing skills, discover strategies for acing the CPA Exam, gain a clear vision for becoming a workplace leader, and explore the world of accounting by visiting local accounting firms and industries.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The FICPA Leadership Academy is a selective, leadership opportunity for young CPAs looking to grow as a leader and expand their professional network while earning CPE. Candidates attend three separate interactive sessions, located around the state, where they learn valuable leadership skills and strategies that empower them to become leaders within their organizations, communities and the CPA profession. This year, 27 graduates represented 17 firms/organizations.

CPA DAY OF SERVICE

Each year the Young CPA Committee leads the profession in an annual statewide CPA Day of Service. Across the state, CPAs of every age demographic give back to their communities. This year, 12 projects ranging from making blankets for pediatric cancer patients to restoring a public park were completed by nearly 150 volunteers.

NEWLY CERTIFIED

During the 2023-2024 membership year, 710 individuals across the state earned the prestigious Florida CPA license. During MEGA in June 2024, we took time to recognize and celebrated this enormous accomplishment at our Newly Certified Ceremony.

SHARING OUR SUCCESS STORIES

I chose to pursue accounting because I wanted to pilot higher standards of sustainability and environmental care in corporate America. As an accountant, I can rally behind this cause to make a meaningful impact. Growing up in a single-parent household, I struggled financially each semester in my pursuit of higher education, but with the generous support of the FICPA Scholarship Foundation, I graduated debtfree and earned my CPA license. Today I’m proud to take the next step toward protecting our natural resources.

ASHLEY ETIENNE

St. Thomas University

Graduate Student Future CPA

Having moved to Florida from Haiti, I had to overcome financial, transportation and language barriers. Trekking over two hours daily on public transportation, and sometimes on foot, to achieve my dream of becoming a CPA shows my determination and I am grateful for this scholarship.

As national conversations surrounding CPA licensure evolve, the FICPA has initiated a solution that propels the profession forward. The FICPA, NOVA Southeastern University (NSU), and three South Florida accounting firms – Berkowitz Pollack Brant, Kaufman Rossin and PAAST – have partnered together to assist future CPAs on their path to licensure.

The Bridge to CPA pilot program, the first of its kind, will give firm employees who have already completed 120 hours of undergraduate education the opportunity to fulfill their remaining 30 credit hours – necessary for licensure as a CPA – through the MAcc program at NSU.

Eligible candidates are given the opportunity to pursue their fifth year of education and take career-relevant

courses without having to navigate the tuition cost and access barriers that can dissuade potential CPAs from obtaining their license. Bridge to CPA is funded by the combined support of NSU, employer firms, and tuition awards from the FICPA Scholarship Foundation and Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Class curricula was approved by the Florida Board of Accountancy and the program launched in Fall 2024, with plans for expansion in 2025.

Iam proud to have been named as the FICPA Scholarship Foundation’s 2024-25 Chair and to bring my vast experience as a growth strategist and advisor to the role. My unique perspectives will help expand the Foundation’s reach within the broader Florida business community and help execute the Foundation’s mission to support accounting students, CPA candidates, and newly licensed entrants to the profession as they navigate the career pathway.

I have been a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2018, was Chair-Elect in 2023-24, and played a pivotal role in organizing Foundation fundraisers in the Tampa Bay area.
