Texas Judge of the Year says he values hearing from citizens; vows to hold the line on taxes.

After months of deliberation

and prayerful reflection, Judge Bill Gravell, who has served as Justice of the Peace (Pct. 3) since 2013, announced his candidacy for Williamson County Judge.

On December 2, following the Christmas Stroll parade at the county seat in Georgetown, Judge Gravell stood on the west steps of the Courthouse surrounded by elected officials, supporters and law enforcement to make his case that the voters of Williamson County will have a choice for fiscal conservative leadership in the Republican Primary on March 6, 2018.

Gravell said, "Williamson

County must have strong conservative leadership to manage growth and keep our county safe. I strongly believe government officials should operate their offices with a conservative, business minded approach. When I took office in 2013, I made it my mission to transform my court into the most efficient and fiscally conservative office in Texas.”

Gravell continued, “Saying you are a conservative is one thing.

Actually governing like one is another.

"We need a true conservative business-minded leader who does not have a record of raising taxes year after year.

It’s time we focus on needs, not wants, and actually cut wasteful spending. That is exactly what I will do as your next County Judge.

“I am a lifelong conservative Republican and resident of Williamson County. We are one of the fastest growing counties in America and I know the importance of keeping our county safe and strong. We must lower our taxes to offset skyrocketing property appraisals and get a handle on our spiraling $1.3 billion debt. Williamson County has a reputation for keeping our families safe and we must make our public safety professionals a priority, not just a campaign punch line. And finally, we must improve our infrastructure and mobility to keep Williamson County moving,” Gravell concluded.

To date, Gravell's opposition includes Round Rock City Council Member Frank Leffingwell.

Deanna Lewis launches campaign for Williamson County JP #3

On Saturday, about an hour after Bill Gravell announced he would be on the ballot for County Judge, conservative Republican and long-time Law Enforcement professional Deanna Lewis launched her campaign for Justice of the Peace for Pct. 3 in the March 6, 2018 Republican Primary; a hopeful for Judge Gravell's current seat.

“We have a long-standing tradition of excellence when it comes to Justices of the Peace in Pct. 3,” Lewis said. “Pct. 3 not only expects but demands a Judge who has the experience to administer justice fairly, while treating everyone who appears in the courtroom in an unbiased manner.”

Lewis went on to say, “It would be detrimental—not only to the citizens of this county, but also the justice system—if this important bench were to fall into

the hands of an inexperienced person with no knowledge of this office holding a preconceived radical mindset of legislating from the bench. I have the experience, leadership, temperament and conservative values to carry on the tradition of excellence in the position. That is why I am running for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3.”

Lewis brings a wealth of knowledge and law enforcement experience to the people of Pct. 3. She began her career in Williamson County more than 20 years ago. Lewis was hired as a communications officer

for the Sheriff’s office in 1997, transferred to the law enforcement division as a Deputy Sheriff, and later promoted to Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. She was again promoted to the Office of Professional Standards where she currently serves as a Sergeant Investigator.

Lewis attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, later transferring to Austin Community College where she majored in Criminal Justice.

Lewis concluded, “I understand the decisions I will make from the bench in a JP court have far-reaching consequences.

I will work hard for the people of Pct. 3 and will remain consistent and fair in the civil and criminal cases brought before me. I look forward to serving you and ask for your support and vote in the 2018 Republican Primary.”

Sheriff's Office Holds Security Summit for Local Churches

For a few hours November 17,

Celebration Church in Georgetown was possibly the safest place to be in Texas.

Hundreds of law enforcement officials joined church leaders and others from all over Williamson

County to talk about security plans and measures for local churches.

In the wake of the Sutherland Springs church shooting, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody received calls from churches of all sizes and tweeted a quick inqui-

ry to see if people would be interested in a training event.

Within days, nearly 1000 people from local law enforcement and more than 80 churches had signed up to talk about emergency situations and get information about how to react and respond. Celebration Church has room for 3,000 people and there were few empty seats at the summit.

While the summit was organized for churches in particular, Georgetown Assistant Police Chief Cory Tchida says his department provides similar training for groups of all types and sizes. "What we're hearing today is similar to what we teach everyone about a civilian response to an active shooter; Avoid, Deny and Defend. We teach these concepts in schools and businesses. We

want people to be able to recognize this kind of situation quickly.

One of the reasons the Columbine shooting resulted in so many deaths was because people reacted by doing what they had been taught to do, which, at that time was like reacting to a weather event. Today, sadly, we have had so many of these events that people understand what a lockdown is, and how to do it quickly."

Sheriff Chody said thanks to this initiative he has assimilated new information into his training, such as having floor plans available to enable law enforcement to plan and react appropriately.

The Holiday Season Begins in Georgetown

town celebrated the official start of the City's holiday celebration.

Mayor Dale Ross had help from local children to

pull the switch and light up Texas' Most Beautiful Town Square.

Entertainment was provided by the Austin Carolers, also with help from more than 100 youngsters. The Austin Carolers joined forces in 1994, and have been performing year-round for many years,

but most notably in Georgetown for this annual event.

At 6pm, Williamson County Treasurer Scott Heselmeyer and Georgetown Mayor Ross led the crowd in a "Santa!" chant to bring the big red man to the stairs.

The mayor wished all a Merry Christmas before turning on a million-plus lights, supported by Georgetown Utility Systems. The recent growth of the holiday lighting project was spearheaded by a joint fundraising collaboration between city leaders and the Main Street Advisory Board. Wagner Middle School Opens Doors Georgetown ISD officially opened the doors on George Wagner Middle School, November 27.

Hundreds of Mitchell students greeted Wagner students in a bus caravan from old Williams Elem, where they had been meeting since the beginning of the school year.

The ceremony included escorts; Superintendent Dr. Fred Brent, school board members, Georgetown fire and police and others in the community. The opening ceremony was held in the gym where the school’s namesake, George Wagner, was recognized and thanked for his decades of service to the students of GISD. Dr. Brent assured the students,

Hutto Fire Rescue Receives State Award

Hutto has become one of

the most high-profile cities in Central Texas. Thanks to new, cooperative partnering, and passage of the 4B sales tax fund, several large dollar projects are already in the works.

The State authorized local governments to impose a sales tax, known as Part A and Part B, for economic development, and proceeds accumulate in a sales tax fund. Part B use focuses on quality of life; water and sewer installation, parking, convention and tourism facilities, parks, and athletic facilities.

Bringing a rocky year to an end with a new volunteer board, Hutto EDC recently broke ground on the new 100,000 sq/ft Titan Business Park (pictured), and construction is already underway for the Co-op District that will rival the Domain in its amenities, restaurants and retail. It will also include recreation and entertainment; splash pad and amphitheater.

EDC President Bill Gravell accounts for the recent success and momentum, "It's a very exciting time in Hutto. Our new HEB alone has increased our sales tax revenue 20 percent in just a few months. Our new EDC is able to develop major projects with collaborative support from an amazing City Council, Chamber of Commerce and even the School Board. Good leadership has allowed us to champion a lot of new business. We are at a point now where we can vote between large business proposals because multiple companies want to build here. It won't be long before we are

entertaining options from large stores like Kohl's or Mighty Fine."

Hutto is experiencing great residential growth as well. "The process depends on the community," Gravell says. "When you get rooftops, the retail will follow, as will the schools. It's the old Field of Dreams; we are building it so they will come. On Nov 21, Hutto Fire Rescue was named 2017 Texas EMS First Responder of the Year from the Texas Department of State Health Services EMS & Trauma Systems.

The State honors persons and organizations that exemplify the best our EMS/ trauma system has to offer. Hutto Fire Rescue demonstrated leadership in EMS in patient care, public access, medical control, disaster preparedness, public education or training.

Hutto Fire Rescue was nominated by Williamson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director Mike Knipstein; “because they consistently demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and knowledge in the care of sick and injured patients. Hutto is an example of excellence and cooperation for BLS (Basic Life Support) medical response, consistently demonstrates the responsibility and accountability of providing exemplary medi-

cal care and are clearly deserving of state level recognition for their model service.”

Dr. Jeff Jarvis, Medical Director for Williamson County EMS goes on to say, “In our experience, these firefighters are always highly motivated, professional, medically competent, and provide excellent customer service, which is an absolute in the Williamson County EMS call management philosophy.”

The Williamson County EMS system is a true partnership between EMS and Fire with both organization committed to making it work. Chief Kerwood also notes that maintaining a close relationship, both at the station engine to ambulance level and administration level is crucial to successful interoperability. In turn this provides a high continuity of care to all patients.

Director Knipstein goes on to state that “…Hutto Fire Rescue’s actions on medical calls demonstrates a capable comprehension of Standards of Care, resulting in consistently excellent patient care. These firefighters have been proactive in the commitment to their community by managing medical patients to a high standard of proficiency, prior to ALS (Advance Life Support) arrival.”

How many laws does Santa Claus break in the normal execution of his duties?

Santa Claus is involved in

many regulatory and federal criminal infractions even before he starts his ride on Christmas Eve. Long before Dec 25, he is actively engaged in full-time surveillance of 1.9 billion children. In the course of compiling this colossal “naughty-or-nice” list, he active engages in reading emails and letters, if not flat-out hacking your computers, which is a violation of the 4th Amendment.

The federal government has not determined whether his special circumstances are in violation of the Patriot Act to date.

While it's difficult to test or prove, we can also be fairly certain that among the millions of homes just in the United States, he

probably has one or two adult beverages to keep him warm so it's likely that he would not pass a DUI test if we were to stop him.

Which leads me to the fact that scientists estimate his speed, to reach every home in 24 hours, exceeds 1800 miles per second. Definitely time for a reckless driving ticket.

He also violates the airspace of nearly every country on the globe but that's for the FAA to investigate.

We also need to consider his health code violations.

Reindeer act as carriers for tuberculosis and ‘foot and mouth’ disease, failure to abide by these rules can pose a significant health risk. And Rudolph’s red nose is obviously a symptom of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis.

We are also not certain about any slave labor issues that may come about when we investigate his elf-labor contracts.

Putting aside all the global and national infractions, just here in Georgetown, he will be guilty of disturbing the peace, unless he has figured out how to land nearly 2000 pounds of reindeer and a sleigh full

of retail items on a person's roof without making noise. We will also be looking into any property damage; e.g., unless those broken shingles magically fix themselves when his 1000-pound sleigh takes off.

Following that will be criminal trespass, which is a misdemeanor, but the volume of occurrences may warrant greater punishment by the judiciary.

Santa will certainly be breaking and entering many private citizen residences, and may be charged with sexual misconduct should be be found kissing anyone's mommy.

While I do love and admire the greatest police chiefs on planet Earth, I also love and admire Mr. Claus, so I am fully prepared to argue, if not for his innocence, at least his freedom.

Advocate readers, I submit to you that Mr. Claus has been unfairly accused and I will prove that, legally, there is no cause for my client to be in this courtroom today.

First of all, the State is not entitled to argue Constitutional violations. To date, none of the 1.9 billion children who got exactly what they wanted complained about privacy rights.

Next, I ask to court to take notice that Texas may not prosecute federal matters; to wit, the FAA manages airspace within the United States and Santa may not be in violation of Georgetown municipal airspace.

As well, Santa has been working with these livestock for 1737 years, and there has been no documented disease to date.

To the contrary, Mr. Claus brought items with him, which he left at the scene.

Finally, I ask you, given the whopping number of deer that currently and continuously inhabit Georgetown proper, did the HOA do DNA testing on the droppings to indicate the offending samples were from deer originating in the mountainous regions of northern Europe, Siberia, and North America? The Real Reason NORAD Tracks Santa Claus

For more than 60 years, the United States has been tracking Santa's night ride around the globe because of a typo.

The tradition began in 1955 when a newspaper advertisement for a Colorado Springs department store misprinted the phone number children could use to call Santa. Instead of ringing at the North Pole, the calls went to the commander of the Continental Air Defense Command, which was located nearby.

"Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole," the military explained.

Children who called that year were given updates on Santa's trip, and a tradition was born.

The tradition made the jump to NORAD when the organization was formed in 1958 between the United States and Canada, and the military continues to track Santa's sleigh to this day.

NORAD reports they use a system of 47 interconnected radar locations, called the North Warning System, to track his launch. In the air, Rudolph's nose can be seen by satellites and is used to track the jolly one's minute-by-minute position.

Since 2007, NORAD has launched its early detection system December 1. On December 24, eager skywatchers can check progress online or with web-enabled devices and watch in 3D at NORADsanta.org and even follow on Facebook and Twitter.

MAYOR'S REPORT Civic Campus Project Starts

Construction is starting on the renovation of two City buildings that will be part of a civic campus for City government offices.

Known as Downtown West, the new civic campus will include a City Hall and Council Chamber and Municipal Court Building as well as the existing Georgetown Public Library that opened in 2007, the Historic Light and Water Works office building, and a public parking lot on Eighth Street.

The new civic campus on the west side downtown brings together a number of City of Georgetown offices and services. The plan also allows the City to sell other buildings on the Square that can become prime retail, restaurant, or commercial locations.

City Hall

The former public library building at 808 Martin Luther King Jr. St. is being renovated to become a new City Hall office building. The 1987 library building was vacated when the new Public Library opened one half-block to the east. City Hall will include offices for City management, City Secretary’s Office, City Attorney’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Human Resources, and the Mayor. The building renovation will retain most of the limestone exterior walls as well as structural beams and the foundation.

Council Chambers and Municipal Court

Adjacent to the new City Hall will be the new Council Chambers and Municipal Court. The City office building at 510 W. Ninth St. currently called the Communication and Technology Building will be

renovated to become the Council Chambers and Municipal Court. An addition on the east side of the building will include the new City Council Chamber that also serves as a municipal courtroom. The addition also houses a jury room and council meeting room. Offices for Municipal Court and Accounting will be on the first floor in the existing structure. Currently the building houses the Information Technology Department, which will remain on the 2nd floor.

Green Space

A walkway and green space area will connect Council Chambers and Municipal Court with City Hall. The one-block section of 9th Street between two buildings and adjoining green space can be used for events.

The $13 million project is funded by proceeds from the sale of City buildings, municipal bonds, and fee revenues. Construction starts in December and should be complete in 12 months. The architect for the renovation project is Lawrence Group and the contractor is Balfour Beatty.

Office Consolidation

The current Visitors Center, 103 W. Seventh St., and City Hall, 113 E. Eighth St., and Council Chambers and Municipal Court, 101 E. Seventh St., will be sold for retail or commercial use. A request for proposals to purchase each building will be released in early-2018.

The new civic complex on Eighth and MLK streets will centralize several offices that are currently in buildings scattered throughout the city. In addition to providing needed facility space, the new civic campus enables easier collaboration for City employees and convenience for residents using City services.

PUBLISHER'S CORNER Why is Mr. Bone the right person at the right time for this seat? His 23 years of residency and participation in “all things Round Rock” is an excellent place to start. I’ve included his extensive list of involvement with city government at the bottom of this column. As this experience clearly shows, a vote for Hollis Bone is a vote to hold the line on taxes and maintain the quality of life that has existed in Round Rock, even through its period of exponential growth. Mr. Bone’s consistent, committed, and decades-long government, civic, and social engagement with the Round Rock community will allow him to step into this position and govern effectively from day one.

This election, though local, has brought out the state Democratic Party’s attempts to swing Round Rock toward an ultra-liberal style of governance; which leads to unreasonable regulations, high taxes, and yes, more crime.

The liberals start this process by simply asking “someone to step up.” In this case that person is Hilda Montgomery− who has exactly zero experience in municipal governance.

Support Hollis Bone to Stop Austin "Creep"

If you like an Austin-style of

government and you’d like a carbon copy in Round Rock, just let this December 16th special City Council election go the wrong way. The Round Rock City Council is one seat away from bringing one of the most liberal forms of government in the United States right to your front door, and even worse, to your wallet. The only person standing between the take-over of Round Rock by this ultra-liberal faction is Hollis Bone. Most likely, you have never voted in an election that will determine your financial future as much as this one will.

As far as I can tell, the greatest benefit Ms. Montgomery could offer on the council might be to get the city a discount on Dell computers. On a serious note, she is a strong advocate of “government knows best” and appears to be ideologically lead toward that ambiguous “social justice”− often the code word for ever-burgeoning government control and handouts, for which every resident of Round Rock will be compelled to pay. The third candidate in this race is a Georgetown print shop owner.

While there is nothing wrong with wanting to engage in government, electing either of Mr. Bone’s opponents would be like taking a child from riding a bicycle and putting them on a Harley-Davidson without instruction. It’s not only dangerous to them, but to everyone around them!

Experience matters. Hollis Bone has decades of that. The Advocate wholeheartedly supports Hollis Bone for Place 6 for Round Rock City Council on December 16. The future of Round Rock depends on this election. Go vote!

New Families in 425th District Court

Above, Devon Wayne Barnes has lived with his grandfather, Joe Barnes, since he was two years old. They have always been Best Buds and now, legally, they are father and son. His aunt / sister Theresa Frazier says the family has gotten quite a few laughs trying to explain new brother-cousins that have nothing to do with curious family issues! And, they're not sure but, they think now Joe might be his own grandfather. Devon and Joe plan to continue fishing, taking care of each other and be together forever and for always.

"I love him with all my heart and it's wonderful that I will be his parent," says Joe. Devon agrees "It sounds good that I will be his son for always."

Williamson County families welcomed 11 new members on Adoption Day, November 21, in the 425th District Court.

Adoptions are done all the time in Williamson County but November is National Adoption Month and many clients and families who work with Child Protective Services choose to formalize the occasion in a public celebration.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Williamson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Child Welfare Board, and Bar Association, the annual event featured donated toys and books for the adoptees, lunch and cake, as well as many superheroes to visit with and entertain the families throughout the day.

Judge Stacey Mathews (277th District) presided over the cases and ensured family members testified aloud what was written on all of their faces, mostly in tears—they were already families in their hearts and just needed the lawyers and judges to make it so, legally.

Denise “Wonder Woman” Hyde is a family law attorney and has been participating in Adoption Day for nearly 20 years. “Every adoption is wonderful but being able to do these as part of Adoption Day is incredible. Every family is unique and wonderful and all of these families are

opening their hearts and homes and making a commitment to these children to be their Forever family. It’s magic.”

Hyde says Adoption Month brings awareness to the nearly 4000 children in Texas, and here at home who are waiting for their forever homes. “Getting this message out is so important so we are honoring and celebrating these families but we’re also bringing the needed visibility to these kids. These are all our kids.”

Judge Mathews is celebrating her second Adoption Day as a judge and explained all the cases in the annual event are managed by CPS. “This is perfect timing because it's Thanksgiving and there is so much to be thankful for today.

This is the best thing we do in this court. So much of what we have to do sometimes breaks up families. This is the one time we get to make families.”

City Insider reached out to adoptees who say being adopted as an older child has its challenges but is intensely rewarding.

It is not easy. I gave my

parents hell, and still do at times. I pushed them away whenever they tried to hug or kiss me. I threatened to run away and always acted entitled and like a spoiled brat. I hated myself for not being able to connect with my parents or to open myself up to them.

The older kids are, the more likely the problems.

Being separated from their families for difficult reasons hurts all of them. They test their new family to see how truly committed they are.

But, never once did they threaten to send me back or all me their problem child.

So, I know for sure that my parents will stick with me no matter what and that they truly care for me. Never once did they give up on me. They saw me as someone worth fighting for, and I will never be able to repay them back for that.

Adoptive parents are true gems worth more than anything else on this planet.

The Harliens of Berry Creek are celebrating their 24th Christmas decoration celebration. Each year they decorate their home to bring joy to neighborhood kids and families. Inspired by a dear friend’s son and a neighbor who insisted the light show goes on, the Harlien family, Santa, and their supporters are embarking on their 4th Annual Make-A-Wish light show benefiting Central Texas.

With commu-

nity support, they have raised nearly $70,000 in the past three holiday seasons, enabling them to sponsor 14 children on wish trips.

This year the goal is $20,000 to send four more children on a trip of a lifetime. The Harliens started an annual tradition 24 years ago, sharing the joy of Christmas with others by decorating their house with lights and Christmas decor. As each year we passed they added more lights to the home. As the family grew with two children, Coleson now

age 20 and Chamberlain age 18, it became a family tradition.

Skout Deals: New App from Local Developer Mobile marketing is no longer a trend.

It has become a necessary item in the company toolbox. Marketing experts* report 88 percent of consumers who search for a local business on a mobile device call or go to that business within 24 hours. But no longer just for big stores like Best Buy or Target.

We found some of the more popular deal finding apps for this holiday season, and found the highest ranked location-based deal app is based in Central Texas.

“Every night our system scans all the digital information from websites, ads and apps for the businesses that are physically located around you,” Payne says. “Skout Deals sends you the deals that are, at a minimum, 25 percent off. So what Amazon did for online stores, we are doing for the local small and medium stores that you’re already shopping.”

Payne grew up in Canada, has a Ph.D. in Business, and has spent his professional life helping people as an entrepreneur. “It’s a win-win. We help people and families save money, and we help connect customers with local businesses. Many people have told us they have found places they didn’t know existed nearby by using our app.”

He and his wife, Alice, chose Austin to launch their new business because it is a big city that retains a small-town feel. “There are so many businesses here and all of them can participate

in our app for little or no money. Austin is a perfect market for extreme deal finders.”

The app follows while you travel as well. It scans businesses based on zip codes so you can plan travel and activities ahead of time. “Our core users are moms, millennials and travelers but we also know 66 percent of Americans use coupons so we spent 20,000 man hours to make it easy and comprehensive. Anyone who provides products or services to the public, you’ll find something in one of our 27 deal categories.”

Massa Dentistry

More than a pretty smile

Dr. Lourdes Massa Took over the Jarrell practice earlier this year. This is her fourth and, she says, favorite dental office. "I decided I wanted to retire in Jarrell because I love the people here.

The community is amazing. Small businesses help each other and the neighbors shop here. When I started to get involved as a volunteer, I realized I wanted to have my practice here too so I closed my Austin office and we are loving it."

Dr. Massa was inspired by her childhood dentist in the Philippines who was very good to her. Community leaders there gave away free services and that motivated her to do the same. "Community service has always been in the back of my mind and I am looking forward to partnering with local business to provide for neighbors' needs in Jarrell."

She completed her training at the top of her class and was also an educator during her time in California. "I love having my own practice. It gives me greater autonomy to make decisions on patient care but also the time to get to know my patients on a personal level. I really want to know people rather than just run a practice."

One of the special services offered at Massa is Sleep Dentistry, which helps those diagnosed with airway problems.

It combines dental appliance therapy for sleep apnea and TMJ. "It is

beneficial for patients who have been prescribed a CPAP device but who do not use them due to claustrophobia. It' is a great alternative to CPAP-intolerance or failure."

Massa is also a provider of Fast Braces (pictured). They are a fast, save alternative to traditional metal braces and are appropriate for patients of any age. Patients use the appliances for less than half the normal three-year period.

Dr. Massa loves her friendly staff.

"They are outspoken and spunky and they know the names of everyone in town. She'll always say hello no matter where they are."

She says next year they will have another part-time dentist and plans to do in-office impressions for crowns and dentures. "As technology becomes available, we look forward to bringing many more things in-house."

Of course, Massa Dentistry also takes care of health and maintenance of everyone's smile. "My goal has always been to take the fear out of going to the dentist. I feel like a success when I convert someone who was previously afraid to be in the chair. When you're here, we do our best to keep you comfortable, and expertly care for your oral health."

MUGS FOR SENIORS / TEDDY BEAR PARADE

For the second year in a row, students at Liberty Hill Elementary took time out of their gym activities to create holiday gifts for distribution at the Bagdad Senior Center and Meals on Wheels of Williamson & Burnet Counties. Students created holiday and seasonal scenes and added them to the mugs, which will be delivered to the seniors this month.

Mugs and art supplies were sponsored by the Liberty Hill PTO and the kids enjoyed a mid-day showing of "The Grinch" when they finished their artwork. Next week, all grade levels will bring toys and teddy bears to the Teddy Bear Parade at the historic courthouse in Georgetown for Brown Santa. Lucky's Brings a Taste of

to TEXAS

Georgetown Readers—remember Jerry Honnell? Jerry and his wife, Coco, owned The American Bistro restaurant on Leander Road.

You know—the place where everyone raved about the burgers, along with everything else Honnell cooked; the place that was situated in a strip center directly beside, and unfortunately shared a ventilation system with, a smoke-filled bar; the place that closed in 2014 because although diners loved the food, they “just couldn’t handle” the smells wafting through the air-ducts.

Fortunately for Williamson County, Honnell isn’t a quitter and decided rather than retiring his spatula and apron, it was time to find a better location. Later that year, he bought Round Rock’s Chicago-themed restaurant, Lucky Dog, just off IH-35 in Hester’s Crossing. Since then, he re-christened the restaurant Lucky’s Chicago Style Grill, and offers “all things Chicago” from every manner of Vienna Beef Hotdog to “wet and dry” Italian beef sandwiches.

In simplest terms, what Honnell has done at his new restaurant is, first, “made everything as good as it could possibly be,” and second, expand the menu.

“The key to good food is simple,” explains Honnell. “Start with good ingredients and you’ll get a good result.”

Honnell most definitively practices what he preaches. Chicago food lovers will appreciate the fact that almost everything in his kitchen originates from The Windy City. “If you’re going to claim to cook Chicago style, you better be using Chicago ingredients,” asserts Honnell.

A true restaurateur, Jerry understands that Texas is the burger capital of the world, and makes sure his Texas-at-heart customers feel understood and appreciated.

In terms that would melt any Texan’s heart, he describes his burger, saying, “Every burger starts with fresh ground chuck. Then I add just enough seasoning to bring out the meat flavor, and put it on a top quality bakery-style bun.”
