Carter Announces Run for 7th Term by Ann Marie Ludlow
Congressman John “Judge”
Carter visited Georgetown again Wednesday, August 19. On the heels of the news release that he will again run for the Texas 31st District Seat in U.S. Congress, he spoke to the Georgetown Area Republican Women at their monthly luncheon. He began by reassuring the guests “The Internet is not always right and I *am* running for re-election because the other guys have made great inroads into making this a European, socialist nation. People are worried that we won’t have the same country we have today in ten years.” Also at the luncheon, State Representative Marsha Farney announced she will be running for re-election to Texas District 20. The spotlight, however, belonged to Judge Carter, who spoke strongly about the Republican party and focused on the idea that no matter what, he supports the party and the party’s nominee. “United we stand. We all have a candidate in this race, but if that doesn’t happen for you, don’t stay home and say ‘My guy didn’t win so I’m not going to vote, or help or contribute’ because that’s when
we really lose.” The Congressman discussed the difficulties he and other Republicans in the House face, specifically having voted more than 60 times to defund Obamacare, and working to ensure that the Republican majority functions like one and directs what’s going on. “It is vitally important to get all the Republicans together. We do not march in step and we can be like herding cats because we are critical thinkers. But if they don’t vote for our legislation, then we have to ask the Democrats to do it. When Republicans vote ‘no’ it is not the protest vote they think it is; they are simply with the
Democrats, and that’s not the way it’s supposed to work.” Rep Carter opened up the floor; “Things we ought to be talking about. The Iran deal is not a deal. We need to talk about ISIL, and what solutions we have. These are the things we’re talking about on our side. The other side is talking about keeping Hillary out of jail.” It was no surprise the audience wanted to talk about immigration. While the Supreme Court considers birth-right citizenship, immigration has always been and will continue to be local news in Central Texas. “Immigration issues are difficult to deal with because we are talking about a lot

of people. Something we tend to forget, especially in Texas, is that not everyone who comes here illegally is from Mexico.” Statistics show that in the last two years, less than 30 percent of those who come across the Texas border are Mexican. Carter says, “Returning them all to their home means sending them back to Guatemala, Honduras, India, Pakistan—even Ireland. The rule for Mexico is that if you come here illegally, we take you right back. That’s easy. But we have to deal with more than people realize; things like China, who won’t take their people back.” The Judge also discussed addressing immigration by addressing changes in wage application and jobs. “We are the magnet because of the jobs we provide. Amnesty sounds like a good idea to increase the work force, but we have to be sure when we fix something, we don’t leave a hole for another new problem. When people get amnesty, and become citizens, the cost of their hours goes up above minimum wage. Citizens who were doing the same job now have to do it for less. We

The prayers focused primarily on strength and protection. He prayed a wall of protection over parents and leaders, and even school zones to “Not on our Blessed, continued page 12
