FideNa nanomat fp7 2013
ABOUT FIDENA FideNa (Foundation for R&D in Nanotechnology) is a research center working since 2007 with the goal of fostering the use of nanotechnology by the industry in Navarra. Navarra is a strong industrial region of Spain home to some major players in Renewable Energies, Biotech, Automotive & Food Processing. One target of FideNa is to develop technology that can be transferred to industry. In order to do this, FideNa is located on the campus of the university of Navarra (UPNA) and carries its own R+D+i lines, some of them in collaboration. FideNa has a team of 17 people (growing), with several years of experience in nanotechnology & tech transfer.
ACTIVITY FideNa focuses its efforts in the following three areas nanofab [expertise] fabrication of nanostructures on surfaces, in collaboration with MIT groups. FideNa can make patterns of columns, holes or lines, with pitches down to 180nm and features down to 30nm, over areas as large as Ø10cm. Typical materials would be Silicon or Glass, coated with metals or semiconductors if necessary. [applications] energy (photovoltaic & thermo-solar) and optics (control of transmission & emission of energy) nanobio [expertise] development of nanobiohybrid systems, of biomolecules & nanoparticles (NPs) or nanostructured surfaces. Optical sensors based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR). Functionalized nanoparticles as nanobio probes & nanobio carriers. [applications] LSPR biosensors using NPs or nanostructured surfaces for detection of analytes & biomarkers. Nanobio probes for signal amplification (enhanced ELISA, LSPR) & nanobio carriers for smart delivery. nanomat [expertise] nanoadditives for nanocomposites or coatings. Particularly focused on: (1) the use of nanowhiskers & nanoclays to improve the properties of eco-friendly (bio) polymers; and (2) the use of NPs to develop coatings with tailored functionality. [applications] biodegradable packaging (to improve properties such as resistance, gas barrier… and add properties like anti-bacterial, fire resistance, UV filter…). Filters for water purification. Paints with special properties.

SPECIFIC SKILLS / EXPERIENCE FOR THESE CALLS Broad experience fabricating nanoadditives and using them to make nanocomposites with a diversity of matrixes. Particularly as nanoadditives FideNa produces and functionalizes nanowhiskers (nanocrystals) , and uses them to improve the properties of matrixes such as starch, cellulose or PLA. FideNa already works in two FP7 programs related to nanobiocomposites. Nanoclays are also used. FideNa works in improving the properties of paints by nanocompositing them, to achieve self cleaning or anti icing properties. SiO2, TiO2 etc… are used as nanoadditives. Several trials have been made so far to functionalize stents & scaffolds with nanoadditives. Tests are on-going.
SEARCHING FOR Entities filing proposals in our areas of interest, who may need to find a Partner for their consortium, and may be interested in our skills. Mainly projects where a nano additive may mean a technological advantage due to the nano added value (specific properties). We seek to learn with the interchange. We all speak English, and know how to team-work.
