School of Leadership Studies The Scholar-Practitioner at Fielding: Leadership for Individual and Social Transformation In the School of Leadership Studies, students learn theory, engage in research, and create new knowledge to shed light on today’s most pressing issues. Our school offers students the opportunity to become effective change agents. Recognizing the interconnections between individual, educational, organizational, and community development, we take a systemic, multidisciplinary approach to the study and practice of leadership.
Transform Educational, Organizational, & Social Systems Our school offers access to a global community of scholarpractitioners, learning together at a distance, online, and in-person at academic sessions held in North America and across the globe. With the support of mentoring faculty, students master a rigorous, personalized curriculum, while building a deep sense of community and shared learning.

The School of Leadership Studies offers a multidisciplinary path to scholarship for professionals who want to expand their knowledge, improve their research skills, and create a more reflective practice. Guided by principles of social responsibility, the School of Leadership emphasizes a scholar-practitioner model of engaged learning and develops leaders who are agents of change in their own communities and across the globe. Our students learn to understand, evaluate, and change conditions in the world that are responsible for social and ecological injustices. Through collaborative and customized programs, you can acquire the skills and knowledge you need to implement meaningful change where you live and work. Our programs cater to the diverse life experiences, learning styles, and complex schedules of adult learners. Our students and alumni use their degrees as consultants, educators, and professional to inform relevant action and discover theoretical insights in support of a more just and equitable world.
Our Programs Doctoral Degrees Our Doctor of Education program is a minimal residency program that provides doctoral level research and practice through independent study in a collaborative environment. Doctoral degree programs with pathway master’s degrees awarded along the way in Human Development and Organizational Development & Change combine individual mentoring, small group study, localized seminars, and conference-based workshops to support scholarly research.

This framework includes foundational courses, electives, leadership competencies, optional concentrations, a research/praxis project, and a dissertation. Fielding’s Common Doctoral Framework creates a pathway to degree completion in 3+ years. A combination of transfer credit and documented prior learning may enable qualified candidates to enter the program with advanced standing, thereby reducing the total cost of the program.
Optional, Shared Concentrations Students can individualize their doctoral program and expand their professional expertise by selecting one of our shared doctoral concentrations. A student enrolled in our doctoral programs may select any of our doctoral concentrations into a personalized program of study (see below). Each concentration typically includes a minimum of three tailored courses and access to a community of scholar-practitioners who are passionate about this specialized field of study. *The shared concentrations do not apply to Fielding’s Clinical Psychology Program.
Master’s Degree The Master of Arts in Organization Development & Leadership uses online learning tools for intensive peer-to-peer and student-faculty engagement in professional problem solving.

EdD Become a catalyst for positive change in your school, organization, or community. Fielding’s Doctor of Education (EdD) with an emphasis in Leadership for Change degree is designed for professionals who are inspired to tackle the challenges in today’s educational and human services systems, organizations and communities. Our unique learning model blends online and in-person learning designed for working professionals to pursue a degree in ways that best fit with career and family responsibilities. A multi-day orientation is the only residency requirement of the program. Through action-oriented research, students systematically analyze, evaluate, and improve educational processes and practices. Students in the EdD program are empowered and equipped to lead positive, systemic change in their communities.

PHD HD Fielding’s PhD in Human Development (HD) program emphasizes adult development in personal, organizational, and cultural settings in preparation for careers in teaching, administration, consulting, and leadership. This degree empowers scholar-practitioners with foundational and current research across the lifespan from multidisciplinary perspectives. You will study humans as individuals and as members of systems. You will gain an understanding in ways to optimize interpersonal relationships and empower yourself and others to become change agents for social and ecological justice. PHD ODC Fielding’s PhD in Organizational Development and Change (OD & Change) program applies systems theory, management studies, and social sciences to create new approaches to organizational leadership. It is a multidisciplinary degree for scholar-practitioners who want to expand their capacities to bring about positive change in today’s organizations and communities. As an OD & Change doctoral student, you will develop the knowledge to help organizations and communities thrive in today’s complex world. Emphasizing a multidisciplinary integration of human and organizational systems, the OD & Change degree creates new approaches to inclusive leadership and sustainability. You will gain knowledge, practice and research skills to empower yourself and others and meet today’s complex organizational and social challenges. Engage in a global, flexible learning community. MA ODL Fielding’s MA in Organization Development and Leadership (MA-ODL) helps you acquire the skills and theoretical knowledge to become a competent and confident leader. You will study theories that describe how complex organization systems work. Discover how you can use systems thinking, intervention methodologies, and design thinking to effectively address complex challenges. Explore processes that improve your collaboration, creativity, and compassion to help you become a more effective agent of change. Our diverse community of professionals represent a rich mix of disciplines, job levels, experiences, and interests to enhance the experience of all participants. Community members will respect you as an individual, understand you as an adult, and support you as a professional. MA-ODL graduates hold positions in mid- and upper-level management in private and nonprofit sectors including education and government. Others create private practices as consultants or work as internal consultants in organization development, management, coaching, and leadership. To meet the needs of working professionals, we offer a flexible learning environment, combining online learning with two faceto-face sessions, where you engage in a global community of professionals. CT EBC Fielding’s Evidence Based Coaching certificate program is a multidisciplinary Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) that connects theory and research with effective coaching skills and strategies from a variety of disciplines including psychology, adult learning, neuroscience, adult development, communication, change, and others. The Evidence Based Coaching program offers a certificate to fit the needs and experience of our students. The Evidence Based Coaching Certificate serves individuals who want to bolster their expertise and develop coaching careers that serve a variety of sectors. Our faculty hold doctorates and are International Coaching Federation credentialed at the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) or Master Certified Coach (MCC) level. Graduates are coaches in business, education, health, social service, and other industries. Their coaching practices span corporate, forprofit, nonprofit, and private practice settings. Our graduates are leaders in their chosen professions. They are top executives, entrepreneurs, educators, coaches, consultants, and leaders in human resources, health care, and nonprofits.
The faculty are experts at developing both your theoretical knowledge with an application edge, so you, the coach can occur practical, relevant and centered. The way the ICF standards are woven through the program make it possible to ‘live’ the values of coaching.
