welcome
We have been on an incredible journey since forming the Arts and Theatres Trust Fife (AttFife) in October 2008. Since all our programming came under the umbrella of the Trust, we have been taking a close look at what you, our audience, want of us.
We are committed to programming high quality and accessible work which is artist lead and audience focussed. This new style programme shows you the rich and diverse mix of our work which features a broad range of exciting events and also showcases the abundant seam of community talent within Fife. Throughout this brochure you will see that we are co-producing work with a range of National and Scottish based companies. Work to suit all ages and interests. Our approach to co-producing with companies such as the National Theatre of Scotland will see “99…100” culminate in a three week site-specific theatrical event in November 2010, made by – and for – the people of Fife. I hope you will find much to enjoy across our venues during the Autumn season and I genuinely want to hear your comments through our new feedback site www.youtellus.co.uk Hazel Wotherspoon, Head of Programming and Creative Development

Doddy Monroe and his family own the dodgems that have been coming to the Links Market for years. But a new family, the Cornettos, have arrived and they want things to change. Will Doddy and his family give up their family traditions? Will we ever find out what the Cornettos are really up to?!! Sixty 6 – 11 year olds can’t wait to tell you the rest of the story.
Very funny country & western send-up of The Phantom of the Opera set in the County Palace in Nashville, where former operatic ingénue, Christina, sings back-up to the ‘Reigning Queen of Country Music’ and finds a mentor in Aaron, mysterious janitor.
Whether singing 1920s blues or songs from the cool era of swing, Lorna Reid is an alluring and engaging vocalist who brings her distinct style to songs of the great divas from Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald to Julie London and Norah Jones. Featuring tracks from her internationally, acclaimed album Gypsy In My Soul, Lorna is joined on stage by some of Scotland’s finest jazz musicians. www.lornareid.com “...love the CD” Stephen Duffy, The Jazz House, BBC Radio Scotland

It’s non-stop entertainment all the way. From Lady Gaga to the Saturdays… from Sarah Brightman to Bryan Adams... from a fantasy in outer space to the intensity of sensuous Latin rhythms… from West End musical to Hollywood blockbuster… the hits keep on coming as only Lady Boys of Bangkok can deliver. Also singled out for special attention is their favourite Thai TV show – BANGKOX GOT TALENT. But other than saying they are inviting some “celebrity guests” they are keeping the details very close to their ample bosoms. With over four hundred gorgeous costumes this is the nation’s favourite cabaret party show. You won’t believe your eyes!
Take your seats for a comedy of Highland chancers and bampots from one of Scotland’s leading theatre companies. Haggis McSporran left the Highlands to become the king of comedy. Now he’s coming home for an interview on Jacobite Radio with his old pal Craitur Face Macleod. For Macleod this is a proper celebrity interview with a proper celebrity, and a chance to catch up with the man he first met many years ago.

Pokey LaFarge and Scottish Chamber Dennis Locorriere The South City Three Orchestra + Tomorrow Road John Taylor presents
plus support
If you enjoy a mix of roots, bluegrass, folk and old timey music, Pokey LaFarge is the man for you. Pokey’s is a unique brand of songcraft, sharp personality, whiz-bang guitar pickin’ and natty line in showmanship. His songs are influenced by all that he admires from bygone days, yet turn out to be a wonderfully fresh and quirky kind of pop that combines Delta-meets-Appalachia writing with a big, big beat. Reviewing his Edinburgh Fringe outing for The Herald, Rob Adams said: “Pokey is a throwback to the days of medicine shows and guitar-picking troubadours – a dapper bantamweight in a pork pie hat who has acquired the voice of a man three times his age and four times his size”. MENDELSSOHN Hebrides Overture JS BACH (arr GOODMAN) Ricercar from The Musical Offering CPE BACH Flute Concerto in A MENDELSSOHN ‘Youth’ Symphony No 8 in D Roy Goodman, Principal Guest Conductor of both the English Chamber Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand, delivers an enthralling programme. Music by Mendelssohn, who played a key role in the 19th century rediscovery of Bach, frames works by Bach senior and junior. SCO Principal Alison Mitchell takes the solo in CPE Bach’s dramatic Flute Concerto.
Those of us whose musical memories peak during the 1970s will remember Dennis Locorriere’s distinctive voice as lead singer of Dr. Hook. Since then, Dennis has enjoyed a successful solo career and he released a third album Post Cool earlier this year which is packed with melodic songs that confirm he is no slouch in the song-writing department. In addition his songs have been recorded by a wide variety of other artists including Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Southside Johnny, Crystal Gayle, BJ Thomas, Olivia Newton-John and Helen Reddy. On stage with his band, this show will give you the best of his solo work plus classic songs from the Dr. Hook era. This is one of only 4 Scottish dates, so book now!

Hannah and Hanna Hannah is sixteen. She loves karaoke and her boyfriend Bullfrog. She hates her hometown of Margate and the Kosovan asylum seekers who have come to live there. Hanna is also sixteen. She loves karaoke and Margate and is one of the asylum seekers. Hannah and Hanna is one of the finest plays written for young audiences in the past ten years and is as relevant now as when it was first performed in 2001 when it won The Herald ‘Angel’ Award at the Fringe Festival. The play is set when asylum seekers from Kosovo fled from their war torn country in the late 90s but the universality of the story means that the asylum seekers could be from any country in the world. It is a dark story which offers young people an opportunity to imagine and to reflect on how they would react in a similar situation and is also a tale of hope for a more understanding and tolerant society.
Tell Me On A Sunday CLAIRE SWEENEY STARS IN ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER AND DON BLACK'S MASTERPIECE OF MUSICAL THEATRE This is a rare opportunity to see the definitive version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black's classic musical Tell Me On A Sunday. Tell Me On A Sunday charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl in New York. Brimming with optimism, she seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she's been looking for love in all the wrong places. “Combines elements of celebrity fall-out and Sex & The City. There is no-one writing stuff as good as this in modern musical theatre.” Daily Express (2003 West End production)

Keep your guard up. Protect yourself at all times. Protect your boy. Keep him safe. Keep him close. That is all that matters. Cameron is going places. He’s going to see lights. He’s going to make the world take notice and kneel at his feet. He’s fighting for his club, his Mum, his place in the world. Beautiful Burnout is about the soul-sapping three minute bursts where men become gods and gods become mere men. It is the second when the guard drops and the eyes blink and miss the incoming hammer blow. Beautiful Burnout is a thrilling new piece of highly physical theatre immersing the audience in the explosive world of boxing. Marking the first co-production between award-winning companies Frantic Assembly (Stockholm, Othello) and the National Theatre of Scotland (Black Watch, The Bacchae) this remarkable new work will assault your senses and challenge your preconceptions about the most controversial sport of our time. Beautiful Burnout contains strong language and scenes of a violent nature so an age guide of 14+ is recommended.
Tribute bands at their best are not just about looking and sounding like their famous counterparts, they are about capturing the essence and spirit of the real article. In this respect, The Cavern Beatles are way ahead. As musicians, the band have researched their parts meticulously, from chord shapes to drum fills, to ensure the music is represented as accurately as possible. They are all born and brought up in Liverpool and this gives them their seemingly effortless accuracy in their interpretation of the Fab Four’s catalogue.

The Madness of George III by Alan Bennett starring Simon Ward and Susan Penhaligon directed by Alistair Whatley
The year 1786. George III is King. King of England. He has a loving wife, a nation of subjects, a loyal parliament, and the world kneels at his feet… The King’s behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic, and word has it he’s addressed an oak tree as the King of Prussia! Luvhart Created and Directed by Sacha Kyle Performed by David Walshe and Aurelie Langois Musician: Joel Sanderson For children aged 2-4 and their carers
Paperbelle’s world is colourful, comfy and cosy. Paperbelle would love to show it off to you but there has been a bit of a problem. Nothing does what it’s supposed to anymore. The colour keeps trying to run off, the paper trees are refusing to grow. Paperbelle’s world is constantly changing and either she has to stop it all from happening or she has to learn to enjoy it… From the makers of Moussa’s Castle and Peep, this is an enchanting and charming new show designed especially for children aged 2-5 and their families.
A performance especially for 2-4 year olds. Come with us into the sparkling world of White where everything is bright and new. It gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. But someone has to keep it that way and there’s a problem. All anyone can think about in this white world is red… and yellow… and green… and blue… A playful and highly visual new show for very young children and a perfect first time theatre experience. Catherine Wheels is an awardwinning and internationally acclaimed children’s theatre company. “One of Scotland’s top theatre groups for children.” The Scotsman www.catherinewheels.co.uk
Luvhart is magical tale about two very special wind up figurines living inside a magical cuckoo clock. Sharmanka Travelling Circus 25 November – 31 December
Glenrothes Now by Alexander Guy 11 October – 20 November ‘Glenrothes Now’ is an exhibition of oil paintings presenting a true, honest, candid, down to earth, visual souvenir of modern and contemporary life in Glenrothes. Townscapes featuring the local vicinity and ‘still lifes’ of familiar and popular shopping and grocery goods bought in Glenrothes will visually combine to form a clear, positive statement embracing life in Glenrothes.
‘Sharmanka’ means ‘Hurdy Gurdy’ in Russian and these fascinating sculptures are the creation of sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky and theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya. Once an hour, this magnificent menagerie of recycled metal will spring to life to perform an incredible choreography to haunting music and synchronised light, weaving funny and tragic stories about human life.
Alexander intends that his exhibition will be uplifting, positive and generous, reflecting the spirit of the town and its people.
