WE’RE
TO SOMETHING EXCITING
We’re proud to introduce our new name and identity: ON at Fife. It’s all about what’s happening in entertainment and the arts across your region. Four years ago, Fife Council created the independent Arts & Theatres Trust Fife to develop arts in the area. Since then, we’ve changed from an organisation running four separate theatres, to one Trust, creating as well as presenting a huge range of theatre, arts and entertainment. To reflect this shift, we’ve become ON at Fife. ON is broad, taking in everything from our community events and kids’ entertainment to music, dance and contemporary drama… and conferences, classes, galleries and more… ON at Fife is our core name, the umbrella for our family of venues: ON at Lochgelly Centre, ON at Carnegie Hall, ON at Rothes Halls and ON at Adam Smith Theatre. Our new identity celebrates and reflects our rich, varied programme of shows and events – details of which can be found in this new brochure. Adam Smith Pages 4 to 13 Carnegie Hall Pages 14 to 26 Rothes Halls Pages 27 to 40 Diary Listing of all events 20 and 21 We have so much going ON that we can’t fit everything in here. So check out our new website at www.onfife.com, where you can find out more about our events, creative work, courses and classes across Fife. While you’re there, why not sign up for our regular e-newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out on great events, competitions and offers? If you have Facebook, you can find us at www.facebook.com/onfife and we also tweet at twitter.com/onfife – do say hello! Frank Chinn, Chief Executive

Orpheus in the Underworld Offenbach’s irreverent romp features some of the funniest dialogue and daftest situations in French opera. Originally written to send up the government of Napoleon III’s France, the action has been updated to the present day, as director Oliver Mears draws hilarious parallels with our media-savvy, celebrity-obsessed world. Offenbach’s memorable tunes and wicked sense of humour take the characters from one ridiculous scenario to another, culminating in his riotous ‘Cancan’. With a specially-commissioned translation by comedian and political satirist Rory Bremner, this promises to be a fast-moving evening of wit, mayhem and madness. PAGE 6

Her hugely-successful albums Stars and Between the Lines spawned classics such as Jesse, Tea and Sympathy, Lover’s Lullaby and At Seventeen – her biggest hit which won a Grammy. After a ten-year hiatus, she returned to the recording studio in 1992 and the album Breaking Silence immediately gave her a ninth Grammy nomination. For many this will be a rare opportunity to see one of their musical heroines; for those unfamiliar with her work, it’s a chance to get acquainted with a truly great singer-songwriter. This evening will be an intimate solo acoustic gig.

Rab Noakes Legendary Scottish singer-songwriter Rab Noakes is a force to be reckoned with in the world of music in Scotland and beyond. “Showcasing an exemplary taste in interpretations alongside his own songwriting, a Noakes show is a decidedly non-fusty lesson in the history of popular music.” The Herald His intense and compelling style always works its magic on audiences and never fails to inspire. It would be easy to compare Rab’s guitar work to that of 1960s artists such as Bert Jansch and Fred Neil, however it is his own unique vocal and intelligent turn of phrase that have kept him at the cutting edge of songwriting for the best part of thirty-five years. Feel the shivers in your spine as “Roy Orbison” soars gracefully through his classic songs. Watch with delight as “Eddie Cochran” and “Buddy Holly” explode onto the stage like the first guitar-heroes. With slick moves and engaging energy they power through those wonderfully bright, optimistic songs. And that’s just the first half! The second half opens with a concert within a concert as we’re taken through the years of Elvis’s later tours, complete with Vegas jump-suits, belts and rings. And then we’re back with Buddy, Eddie, The Big O and the others, the energy building to fever pitch, leaving the audience demanding more. Unmissable! PAGE 31
