Wilko Johnson Following his recent TV appearance on BBC 2 Television’s Later With Jools Holland, Wilko Johnson, the legendary former guitarist of Dr. Feelgood – who has influenced everyone from Joe Strummer, Mick Jones to Steve Albini – is touring the UK with very special guests Virgil and the Accelerators. When rock ‘n’ roll was shaken from its pre-punk complacency by the emergence of Dr. Feelgood, it was their guitarist, Wilko, who excited attention not only for his violent stage performance, but also for his guitar style, combining the roles of lead and rhythm guitar in driving riffs and a stuttering machine gun frenzy. As a songwriter too, from early Feelgood favourites like Back in the Night to the power and poetry of Dr. Dupree, he has proven himself one of the best and most original exponents of R’n’B this side of the Atlantic. Dunfermline-born Jim released an acclaimed solo album and joined Canadian guitar legend Amos Garrett for several UK tours. He has backed everyone from Van Morrison to Hercules the Bear, was a long-time sidekick of Tam White, and has played all over the world, but is best-known however for his playing on the Rab C Nesbitt theme tune! Playing a mix of blues, jazz, ragtime and folk on a variety of instruments, the pair demonstrate a mastery of their craft which must be heard to be fully appreciated. Midge Ure Uncovered Midge Ure really needs no introduction; his career speaks for itself. Grammys, Ivor Novellos, BASCAPs, gold and platinum discs and a variety of other accolades all grace his mantelpiece. Amazingly, 2009 saw the 25th anniversary of Band Aid, and unlike many other artists, Midge’s career has not only survived that epoch, but continues to go from strength to strength. Midge is the master of re-invention, secure in the knowledge that there will always be a market for a good song, sung with passion! Equally comfortable in a variety of formats, this time he has chosen to perform an intimate acoustic show combining a selection of his own hits, from Vienna via If I Was to Dancing with Tears In My Eyes, with some of his favourite songs by other artists such as Queen, Travis and Fleetwood Mac. The Uncovered show gives him chance to explore his musical roots and share some of the anecdotes and journeys that his career has followed. Like the man himself, it does what it says on the tin...
