DAVID SCHEEL Would you like to hear beautiful and technically brilliant piano music? And in between pieces would you like to laugh yourself silly? If you have answered yes, you need to book up for this show. You may hear a popular folk song played in the styles of Mozart, Rachmaninoff, an iPod Mini or Blues, or he might play a piece by Bach in the right hand and one by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the left, at the same time. Born in Australia, Scheel has enjoyed dual but separate careers as a concert pianist and actor. His first one-man shows soon blossomed into a smash hit, Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player, which has now been touring the world for 15 years. The American press recently called him “the funniest pianist in the world.” “he is as funny as any, wittier than most, and, uniquely, a concert pianist of international stature… he stands alone, in a class of his own.” BBC Arts Review, London. UNCLE VARICK What happens when the rock and roll of swinging sixties London collides with the not so rock and roll of remote Scotland? Sandy Sheridan: pretentious art critic and self proclaimed cultural icon returns home from London to his Scottish country pile – with his new, much younger, wife in tow. Waiting for him are his stoical daughter Shona and his acerbic ex-brother in law: uncle varick, played by High Road legend Jimmy Chisholm. Add in the handsome local Doctor, the not so handsome local neighbour and you have a play full of comedy, pathos, jealously, lust and some very dodgy chain saws. John Byrne the writer behind iconic plays such as, The Slab Boys and the legendary television series Tutti Frutti gives us a great Scottish comedy. Think Monarch of the Glen meets the Rolling Stones. A great soundtrack, a great comedy and a great night out.

ENTERTAINING MR SLOANE
Directed by Michael Cabot. Designed by Simon Kenny. Kath and her elderly father, Kemp, live in a house on the outskirts of a rubbish dump. Their drab existence is interrupted by the arrival of a new lodger, the enigmatic Mr Sloane. Provocative and sexually ambiguous, Sloane soon has both Kath and her brother Ed competing for his favours. But all is not as it seems. Behind Sloane’s nonchalant demeanour lies a calculating psychopath with a dark and secretive past. Seduction, blackmail and murder lie waiting in the wings. With thirty critically-acclaimed productions since their touring debut in April 2000, London Classic Theatre have established a reputation for producing bold, imaginative theatre of the highest quality. Review of LCT’s 2003 production of Entertaining Mr Sloane: “A very fine staging indeed… the voice of Orton sounds loud and clear in this excellent, very black and very funny production.” Victor Hallett, The Stage

MY FRIEND SELMA Created by Victoria Beesely “When I was 8 years old, my dad set up a charity to help people in danger escape the war in a place called Bosnia. He brought fifty of them over here on big coaches. We moved into an old boarding school with these refugees, to help them settle in. We lived there for four months. It was brilliant, and the best thing about living there was meeting my friend Selma.” This performance will be accompanied by a mobile museum exhibition which documents the experiences and memories of the Bosnian refugees who lived as children in the disused boarding school. The mobile museum is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund. My Friend Selma is part of Refugee Week Scotland.

10cc’s Graham Gouldman and
HEART FULL OF SONGS Manchester born Graham Gouldman was given his first guitar at the age of 11 and started playing with local bands at 15. He soon formed The Mockingbirds. Columbia Records rejected Graham’s first single composition for the band – For Your Love, which later became a huge hit for The Yardbirds. Graham went on to write a string of hits for other acts, such as Look Through Any Window (The Hollies) and No Milk Today (Herman's Hermits). In 1972, along with eric Stewart, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, he formed 10cc and enjoyed a string of Top 10 hits, including three No 1s – Rubber Bullets, I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday. It’s the enduring popularity of these tracks and Graham’s love of playing songs in their simplest form, acoustically, that led him to creating Heart Full of Songs. Accompanying Graham on stage to perform these classic songs will be Mike Stevens and Iain Hornal, with percussion from Dave Cobby.

JOE LONGTHORNE IN CONCERT Joe began his singing career over three decades ago with appearances on Junior Showtime, followed by a grounding on the tough Northern club circuit. Joe’s big break came in 1981 when he was a finalist on London Weekend Television's Search for a Star – this lead to appearances at the London Palladium with Bob Hope and The Talk of the Town. A short time later, Joe received the variety Club of Britain award as Most Promising Artiste of the Year. His repertoire of voices is endless and includes hundreds of the world's top singers, however, he is perhaps best known for his impersonation of Shirley Bassey who has commented, “Joe can do me better than I can do myself.” PAGE 23

BIG BOOK TALL TALES This is an old story that takes place in a forgotten tattered library. The caretaker arrives to check the place over. He talks to the audience about his love of books. While cleaning, the caretaker finds an old Big Book, 6ft tall. He discovers the story has gone; all the words in it have been washed away. So he starts to think of a story. The battered pages are all different colours. He uses the colours left on the pages to suggest things that may have been in the story. This is a comical show with mime, voice and sign language. THE BLUES BAND Paul Jones, dave Kelly, rob townsend, gary Fletcher, tom Mcguinness If music matures like fine wine, 1979 was a vintage year. That’s when Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness, from the hugely successful Manfred Mann, returned to their first love, the Blues. They imagined their ‘back to the roots’ project, The Blues Band, would simply earn some beer money. How wrong they were – the public were ready and waiting. Talent goes to talent. Into the ranks came slide guitar ace and superb vocalist Dave Kelly, legendary ex-John Mayall drummer Hughie Flint, (replaced in 1982 by the renowned Rob Townsend of Family), with solid bass provided by Gary Fletcher. The band will perform tracks from their new studio album, Few Short Lines plus other favourite tracks.

THE RSNO IN CONCERT The Royal Scottish National Orchestra visits Rothes Halls with a delightful programme of music for a long summer’s eve. Only the young Felix Mendelssohn could have taken a subject like the Reformation and turned it into music as magical and as stirring as his Fifth Symphony. And only Bizet could have taken a steamy French melodrama and created melodies that just seem to bask in the Provençal sunshine. Alexandre Bloch has a way with romantic music; together with the RSNO’s own violin soloist Maya Iwabuchi he’ll make Saint-Saëns’ Third Violin Concerto the sweet centre to a truly mouthwatering concert.
