Othello Othello, newly married to Desdemona – who is half his age – is appointed leader of a major military operation. Iago, passed over for promotion by Othello in favour of the young Cassio, persuades Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. In the live screening of this major new production, Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester (Henry V at the National Theatre, BBC’s Hustle) takes the title role. Amidst the six week blur of safaris, white-water rafting and orphanages, Joe made friends with Ronnie... Ronnie was 16, Joe was 18. They were both the eldest sons of large families. They both supported Manchester United. Six months later, back in Manchester, Joe got a text: “Brother my sponsor has pulled out on me and I want to stay in school. Can you help? Ronnie x”. That text was to change both of their lives and inextricably link them together. Raith Rovers Hall of Fame 2013 The doors to Raith Rovers' Hall of Fame open again in 2013 – after a completely sold-out inaugural event last year. Des Dillon Storyteller Des Dillon, writer and director of hit shows Singin’ I’m No a Billy He’s A Tim and Six Black Candles, brings his own style of comedy back to Fife, but this time he is taking centre stage and is the one in the spotlight. He was an early member of the Boys of the Lough and the now legendary Scottish folk-rock band, Five Hand Reel as well as the Scottish super-group of the 90s, Clan Alba. Linwood No More The year is 2000. As the new millennium dawns, a homeless alcoholic awakens to reflect on the events that have changed his life. Recalling his first day at the Rootes car factory in Scotland, the audience is taken on a nostalgic, humourous, and often harrowing journey through his life in the town of Linwood, and the factory that is no more. On May 2, 1963, the Duke of Edinburgh drove the first completed vehicle out of the Rootes production line near Linwood, Renfrewshire. It was the first of about half a million made at the factory, which changed hands three times before its demise and eventual closure in 1981. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of Scotland’s most famous motor car and this hard-hitting drama focuses on one worker from the factory and what happens to him after redundancy. Since 2002 he has been conducting a cold case investigation into The Whitechapel Murders of 1888, which were attributed to a fearsome killer who came to be known as Jack the Ripper. Against a backdrop of faded Baroque grandeur, a cast of very contemporary characters tell a compelling tale of tyranny, love and the corrupting nature of power. Bertarido, King of Lombardy, has been defeated in battle and his enemy Grimoaldo has seized his throne. Bertarido’s queen, Rodelinda, mourns bitterly, little knowing that her husband is feigning death in order to exact revenge. Alone in a world of ruthless Machiavellian intrigue, she agrees to marry Grimoaldo. Distraught, Bertarido dismisses her as faithless, but allegiances change in the flick of a knife, and nothing is ever quite what it seems. Three instrumentalists accompany – on harpsichord, violin and cello – giving a strong flavour of the orchestra that Handel originally wrote for. The sensuous score is full of fragility, beauty and darkness, contrasting moments of frantic energy with those of exquisite stillness, reflecting the human passions at its core. In 2012, Dewar's hosted an experiment. Musicians from India and the UK were placed in a makeshift recording studio in Edinburgh, for a week, asked to come up with an album of original songs. King Creosote, Suhail Yusuf Khan, The Pictish Trail, Slow Club, Found, James Yorkston, Raghu Dixit and others came and went, collaborating and creating with those that they met. The results were rather special. In the spirit of that album, three of those acts are on tour together for the first time, playing as a trio and performing a semi-improvised mix of traditional music from India and the UK/Ireland, alongside their own compositions. Four days into the crossing, the ship was torpedoed and sank. Only eleven of the evacuees survived. Two fifteen year old girls, Bess Walder and Beth Cumming, spent 19 terrifying hours in the water on an upturned lifeboat. They willed each other to survive. Lifeboat tells their remarkable story.

In Time O’ Strife By Joe Corrie. Directed by Graham McLaren “There’s nae power on earth can crush the men who can sing on a day like this.” Intensely physical, loud and charged with raw emotion, driven by explosive choreography and an original live soundtrack performed by leading Scottish musicians, the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of In Time O’Strife is a powerful re-imagining of Joe Corrie’s neglected classic about a Fife mining community during the General Strike. To raise funds for the soup kitchens feeding the miners and their starving families, Corrie wrote the play whilst on strike himself, exposing the brutal lives of a family staring hunger and defeat in the face.
