In My Humble Opinion

O

ver the course of one’s life, there are but a few things that stand out as defining moments. Likewise, only a handful of people will we count among those with exceptional influence. We are in the midst of one of those great defining moments. In that time, I have been influenced by a man of defining principles to such an extent that I now present a case for why we need Rick Santorum for Vice President of the United States of America. Sometimes, the greatest opportunities are birthed in the most perilous of times. While some seek to hide from the pressure of fulfilling a leadership role, I have come to know a man who, in my humble opinion, bears the mark of

greatness required for leading our nation in a time such as this. I have asked myself the question over and over again: “How does a young black man from Flint, Michigan, the son of a celebrated Pentecostal pastor and a mother from the West Indies, a former career (union) firefighter for the City of Flint, come to know a conservative, Republican U.S. Senator and former Presidential candidate from Pennsylvania?” Briefly, I moved to North Dallas, Texas a few years ago where I met a gentleman named Jeff who quickly became a trusted friend. In 2012, Jeff was instrumental in Rick Santorum’s bid to become President because he believed “We need to put a Godly man in the White House.” Despite our societal, economic, and political differences, this sentiment resonated with me. Thanks, in part, to my rapport with Jeff, I was often invited to “ride along” with Senator Santorum, influencing my perspective of his character and aptitude. I watched, listened, and learned. I hope you will too. Sincerely, JD Lee

To Whom It May Concern

O

ver the past year, Donald Trump has achieved what few could have imagined – not only did he quickly become a force in the Republican primary but he would go on to earn the votes of more Americans than any previous Republican nominee. Mr. Trump now faces the next major decision of this campaign: choosing the right running mate. There are many strong conservatives to consider – from Governors Rick Perry and Mike Huckabee to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator Jeff Sessions. Each of these talented individuals possess special qualities that would be tremendous additions to any ticket. There is one prospective vice presidential nominee who brings the experience, knowledge, and credentials necessary to partner with Donald Trump - former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania. Mr. Trump is clear that he desires his running mate to have a strong propensity for getting things done

in Washington. Rick Santorum’s resume is simply unmatched by the other prospective nominees. Senator Santorum came to Washington as a reformer, leading the famous Gang of 7 to expose the House Banking and Post Office scandals which sent members of both parties to prison. At the age of 38, Senator Santorum would author the landmark 1996 Welfare Reform Law, the only federal entitlement ever to be ended. While prominent social conservatives have heavily criticized Mr. Trump, Senator Santorum’s social conservative credentials are virtually untouchable. As the author of the ban on partial birth abortion, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, and the Born Alive Protection Act, Senator Santorum has contributed to every major pro-life law over the past 20 years. Senator Santorum has fought for U.S. and international religious liberty, has served as a voice for religious minorities, and has fiercely defended our 1st Amendment right to freely exercise our faith. At a time of global turmoil, Senator Santorum’s broad experience on the international stage sets him apart from any governor or junior senator under consideration. Senator Santorum authored tough sanctions against Iran and Syria over a decade ago, identifying the radical Islamist threat during the depths

of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His eight-year tenure on the Senate Armed Services Committee (which transitioned the U.S. military from a Cold War fighting force to one equipped to defeat modern-day threats) is unsurpassed in the current field of prospective candidates. Finally, Senator Santorum’s commitment to hardworking American families mirrors the message Mr. Trump has preached for over a year. He is a true son of the Rust Belt, having represented the western Pennsylvania steel valleys in the House of Representatives. To that end, he voted against NAFTA as he understood how detrimental it would be to communities across Middle America. Frankly, Senator Santorum’s blue-collar conservatism is the perfect complement to Mr. Trump’s populism message. While Mr. Trump has several great candidates to consider, many Americans have come to know and love Senator Santorum. The choice is clear – Senator Rick Santorum is vetted, experienced, and is a perfect match for Mr. Trump to help Conservative Republicans take back the White House. After 8 disastrous years under the Obama Presidency, the American people are ready to move forward. Together, Mr. Trump and Senator Santorum offer the best combination of experience to do just that.

He is a master at the stump and a tireless campaigner who inspires people to believe in a better America. As vice president, Santorum would serve as the president’s COO, adeptly navigating and negotiating in the halls of Congress, where he was an effective, principled, dealmaking politician. Legislatively, Santorum wades into the weeds. He knows the game and he has the mental firepower to deal with the minute details of drafting laws. He knows our nation’s founding documents and understands what it takes for liberty to flourish. What The Critics Are Saying Rupert Murdoch, businessman: "Santorum is the only candidate with genuine

David Brooks, conservative political and cultural commentator: “While in Congress, Santorum was a leader in nearly every… piece of antipoverty legislation.” Bono, entertainer and social activist: “On our issues, [Santorum] has been a defender of the most vulnerable." The Washington Post: “Santorum was a tea party kind of guy before there was a tea party." Maggie Gallagher, conservative activist: “In these days when politicians’ pronouncements are mostly the focus-grouped blind hoping to mislead the voting blind, Rick Santorum dares to say things that actually matter.” Ed Schulz, liberal commentator: “Having seen Santorum on the stump, he is as good as President Obama. I mean, he is a good retail politic guy. He gets in that crowd and those people are believing what he is saying. He’s got a very unique quality and he connects with people.” Michael Tomasky, left wing writer at the Daily Beast: Santorum brings “a spark of feeling in politics that goes beyond ideology … into a place where our political selves and our real and full human selves collide.”

In His Own Voice October 2015: “It is time for a President who will take a blow torch to the tax code, end the IRS..., and create a new tax system for a new century -- a single-rate system that is honest, simple and fair." October 2015: “If you listen to Republicans, they never talk about workers. They're always talking about businesses. They're always talking about economic growth." September 2015: “Our campaign is really about trying to help the American worker and trying to create better jobs for wage earners." December 2015: “We can go out and talk about how we have to bail out Wall Street and how we have to bail out auto companies,” he said, “but when it comes to providing worker protection for the lowest wage workers, we have to be Adam Smith! No! We need to say that we're on the side of the American worker.”
