Summer 2017
Color Trends
Left with a fresh and spicy aftertaste? The action-packed 29 days passed like greased lightning? This is obviously post-fashion-month period finding us all tossing around the new fashion trends, new faces and the most memorable moments of the summer 2017 fashion weeks. Just another summer fashion month came through with flying colors leaving behind a vivacious rainbow. What’s the prime mover of all this get-together? To identify and discuss the summer 2017 color trends!
Just as New York Fashion Week came to its end, the Pantone Color Institute at the ready to declare those top 10 summer 2017 colors that are to lead the pack throughout the whole summer season. According to Pantone’s Summer 2017 Fashion Color Report, the upcoming summer is likely to see all the colors of nature actualized on garments, bringing a mixture of vitality, relaxation and the great outdoors starting from that avocado-reminiscent Greenery and its more muted counterpart Kale to energetic Primrose Yellow and blindingly bright Pink Yarrow and Flame. As was expected, blue was once more playing first fiddle bringing about whole 3 shades: the refreshing aqua Island Paradise, the classic denim-like Niagara and more intense Lapis Blue. Need something to mitigate that whole intense vibrancy? The summer 2017 color trends also dish out more neutral and peaceful shades of Pale Dogwood and Hazelnut. Here are the top 10 fashion colors for summer 2017 with their official appellations, but also a range of other shades that we have noticed to appear on runways more often than others:
#1: Niagara Denim Blue The first place of the summer 2017 color trends goes to Niagara, a relaxing and soft blue shade, dubbed as medium-grade denim by the Pantone experts. Versatile enough to be matched with nigh every shade, this comfortable blue is quite potent to take us somewhere near the Niagara Falls to stare at that sublime scenery and listen to that relaxing water sound. Altuzarra seems to be keeping this easy-going shade under his thumb serving up a range of python printed pieces in his laid-back collection inspired by David Lynch movie Wild at Heart. Next stands Carolina Herrera with a couple of denim-worthy evening dresses that seemed so lightweight albeit with ‘eveningwear’ status to them. Though Niagara is described as the shade of denim, its whole splendor crops up when epitomized on such exquisite fabric as silk, like we see in the Emporio Armani summer 2017 lineup or on that peplum floor-sweeping dress at Alberta Ferretti. However, what really raises the stakes for the leading shade of the summer 2017 fashion color trends is featherweight tulle. From Alberta Ferretti and Alexander McQueen to Marchesa and Zac Pozen, frothy ruffles in Niagara blue pulled off to dream up waterfall tableaux.

#2: Primrose Yellow
#6: Pale Dogwood Pink
#7: Greenery
If the previous season’s special yellow was Spicy Mustard, it is Primrose Yellow that shapes up one of the summer 2017 color trends and for good reason. This invigorating and uplifting yellow is bound to warm the cockles of our heart, so sunny and joyful. We surely lay blame on that lovely flower primrose to light up the summer 2017 runways many a time and oft.
The Pantone Color Institute could not but include this peaceful shade dubbed Pale Dogwood in the summer 2017 color trends, popping up here and there from New York and London to Milan and Paris. This neutral muted pink, as subtle as flower, is game for wrapping its wearer with some pretty innocence and purity especially when used in monochromatic outfits.
Next on the list of the summer 2017 color trends is
Starting from an exquisite velvet outfit at Baja East and a Marabou bomber jacket at Barbara Bui to a range of monochromatic pieces at Blumarine, Pale Dogwood proves to increase feminine energy in the air.
on the runways, but during New York Fashion Week
Primrose readily lent its color to Dries Van Noten, who dreamt up a large collection with Primrose Yellow either appearing on monochromatic pieces or else in the form of flower-like prints on some black or white staples. During Milan Fashion Week Emilio Pucci showed the enthusiastic characteristics of this color in droves whether on calf-length dresses or on ruched boots.
At Gucci, Alessandro Michelle presented Primrose Yellow from a more dramatic perspective on a ruffled dress with poetic sleeves, while Alexis Mabille used this shade on a couple of eveningwear and laid-back blouses, let alone those car-wash-pleated skirts creating pretty black + yellow colorblocks. And if you just can’t get enough of this vigorous shade, make a beeline for Chloé or else stop by Damir Doma to catch a frayed and tattered version of Primrose Yellow.
#3: Lapis Blue
#4: Flame Red-Based Orange
If that classic navy blue is not your cup of tea throughout sunny summer days, yet you are aching for some strong and confident blue, no ifs, ands, or buts here: Lapis Blue is what you are looking for. Being the natural shade of stone lapis lazuli, this blue shade, as if lit up from within, makes another gorgeous 2017 color trend.
Among the summer 2017 color trends, flamboyant Flame is the next color ardently crackling. This red-based orange that seems to be stuck between red and orange, brings about much love, fun and other fervent feelings. Whether you match it with neutral or vibrant shades, be prepared to make a splash around.
We see Lapis Blue jazzing up the Salvatore Ferragamo runway at times even from head to toe wrapping the models with this shade. At Boss knitted dresses in Lapis Blue take a more beach-ready spin especially when matched with green flip-flops or bags.
However, many a designer managed to rope us into Flame craziness. At Christian Siriano models were sent down the runway all wrapped with this gregarious shade starting from sunglasses and headwear to glorious evening dresses and high heels. At Oscar de la Renta we saw a smattering of cocktail dresses and eveningwear in Flame, while at Sportmax we were taken away by those drawstring jumpsuits bursting into flames.
At Max Mara a model sashayed down the runway like an out-and-out Queen of stone lapis lazuli; at Mugler’s shark-inspired runway show this confident shade made a small chapter, but chalk it up to Mary Katrantzou to bring together the vibrancy of Lapis Blue and her calling card optical illusion prints to reveal the whole magic of this shade, the third one on the list of the summer 2017 color trends. You can get more moments of Lapis Blue enjoyment at Escada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Rag & Bone.
Have a yen to see the most flamboyant summer 2017 color trend from a different angle? Go straight to Tory Burch, where preppy style was reigning on the runway, and waste no time to make tracks for Tadashi Shoji to enjoy Flame à la Japanese. More of this shade can be seen at Givenchy, Lela Rose, Mulberry, Akris and Baja East.

#5: Island Paradise Aqua Blue Don’t really feel like bidding adieu to Airy Blue? Replace it with a new addition to the blue family. Island Paradise, the shade of refreshing aqua, stands on the 5th position on the list of the summer 2017 color trends with its power to call to mind some tropical settings. This refreshing blue shade with some green undertones is likely to fully open up on some exquisite fabrics to create the illusion of aqua. Lela Rose and Monique Lhuillier are strongly advocating looking fresh as a daisy decked out into fragile lace dresses in Island Paradise. At Emilio Pucci things take a more windswept spin through a couple of tulle dresses exposing a pretty symbiosis of Island Paradise and Flame, while at Christian Siriano evening dresses in this shade are running the gamut from a pretty embroidered cocktail dress to a majestic bathrobe-style gown. Altuzarra seems to have a thing for blue family this time around. Along with python printed pieces in Niagara shade, he also brought to our view a couple of checkered shirt-dresses in Island Paradise shade. Find out more charmers in the freshest shade of the summer 2017 color trends at Escada, Loewe, Vetements and Barbara Bui.
Greenery, a tangy yellow-green, which according to Pantone Summer 2017 Fashion Color Report speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent. Being the color of foliage, this shade assuredly spreads healthy lifestyle around. The appearance of this shade was quite unexpected when Zac Posen served up some pretty jacquard staples in Greenery, it was crystal-clear that this shade is going through the roof.
However, if the recently erupted trend to wear one hue from head-to-toe does not resonate with your inner fashion fluctuations, there are some off-the-track colorblock offerings from the leading designers. Take that chic rust red and Pale Dogwood combination at Banana Republic or else gamble on matching a Pale Dogwood skirt with an orange top much as we see at Adam Selman.
At Alice + Olivia it was illustrative of jungles, while at Arthur Arbesser we tackled quite a unique combination of a Greenery skirt with a white sailor jacket. Michael Kors showed the freshness of this shade in combination with another summer 2017 color trend – Lapis Blue, thus upping the ante.
Discover more numbers in this shade at Chanel, Hermes, Christopher Kane and Custo Barcelona!

#8: Pink Yarrow
#9: Kale
A glance at the summer 2017 fashion month and it’s just clear-cut that the designers fired on all cylinders to kick-start a wide scale pink revolution in the fashion circuit. Ranging from amaranth and brink pink to raspberry and ultra-pink, the runway had them all in droves. Yet it was Pink Yarrow along with Pale Dogwood that came out on top to be included in the Pantone’s list of the summer 2017 color trends.
Here is another green shade illustrative of nature and healthy lifestyle that shapes up the next summer 2017 color trend. This army shade, ideal for any outerwear piece, can be effectively rocked both in spring and fall. Next to the vibrant and neutral shades on the list, Kale can assuredly serve as the strong background.
Standing so close to magenta, Pink Yarrow can be rightly dubbed as the most attention-grabbing and luxuriant shade among the summer 2017 color trends. It’s so bold and rich, having all traits to produce an adrenaline rush. Valentino seems to be calling shots in the Pink Yarrow festival churning out a range of flowing dresses in this shade mixed with other pink shades and also some very lovely jacquard pieces. Balenciaga’s Demnia Gvasalia intensifies this shade closing it up with purple spandex pants. At Zac Posen and Hermès, Pink Yarrow eveningwear came into view, while at Topshop Unique a model exposed an amazing head-to-toe Pink Yarrow look.
Emilio Pucci, Haider Ackermann and Dsquared2.
#10: Hazelnut Aching for the most versatile and all-purpose color on the list of the summer 2017 fashion colors? It is definitely Hazelnut, an earthy neutral coloring, a tone lighter than the natural hazelnut, yet so warm and gentle with some royal and elegant factor to it. Most importantly, this is a shade to work like a charm all year round. The summer 2017 runway shows came to prove the versatility of Hazelnut starting from those slouchy, ultra-cool pieces at Baja East to some elegant options at Creatures of the Wind to sexy silhouettes at Cushnie et Ochs. Do not miss those street-style chic pieces at Zadig & Voltaire, where Hazelnut was shining with all its unpretentious glory.
18
As expected, the summer 2017 runways saw jackets and trench coats in Kale bursting at seams starting from Altuzarra’s charmers with leather belts to Bottega Veneta’s chic coat to Mulberry’s daywear pieces. Then it was Salvatore Ferragamo to show off the whole splendor of Kale on fit and flare skirts, while at Sonia Rykiel we were taken away by that dashing leather skirt. At Versus Versace, apart from garment pieces Kale pulled off to look equally as cool on lace-up boots, sexy sandals, handbags and even sunglasses. Yet we confidently name Balmain as the winner of the Kale festival through its shockingly shocking cutout evening dresses and high-platform sandals. Check out also Dries Van Noten, Fenty x Puma, Louis Vuitton and Sacai for more Kale numbers.

SPRING | SUMMER 2017 For Spring Summer 2017 Karen Millen introduces a collection featuring innovative cuts, fresh colours and forward thinking shapes to celebrate the individual . The white shirt is a focus for the design team this season. The wardrobe staple is reworked in various guises, using both cotton and silk fabrications. From an outsize shift with tie detailing on the sleeve, to kimono sleeves and placement ruffles, the edit is concise yet playful in it’s execution and will become a cornerstone for the brand this season. Tailoring is key to the brand and this season it is explored throughout the collection. From a soft and relaxed black pyjama suit with elegant white piping through to tailored separates with nautical detailing, a double breasted jacket is combined with a wide leg navy trouser;it’s buttoning across the front in the style of a sailor’s pant. The dress plays hero for the season, with an emphasis on fem ininity. Detailing is key, withsoft ruffles, lace trims or spaghetti straps sitting against soft vintage inspired colours. Embroidery hints towards theFar East in its complexity and repetition, whether all over a fitted shift dress or placed on a yoke on a Victorian inspired mini dress. The season’s richest colours come from amilitary safari trend that isformulated from warm rust, ginger, spice and dandeliontones. A versatile cinnamon lightweight trenchcan be deconstructed to createthrow a on cropped soft trench or a sleeveless jacket. These pieces can be paired with soft knitwear featuring hidden looping and laci ng details, again playfully referencinga nautical theme.Blouses are bohemian in style and trimmed with lace and black embroidery; whilst skirts come in wovenmixed textiles featuring chevron patterns, or simple -A line styles with a hint of the 1970s . The sleeveless s tatementyellow trench adds a splash of colour to a summer palette. Sporty shapeswith a 1960’s feel, whether fitted or with a flared skirtcome in primary colours such as vermillion red, royal blue and canary yellow . A palette of teal, rich navy and safari green create lightweight pieces for high summer , taking the wearer from office to bar and beyond. Silks and cottons take t he form of relaxed culottes or a navy ovoid - leg playsuit. A python print silk dress with lacing details and soft ruffles has a luxurious bo hemian feel whilst a silk shirt-dress is a new take on minimalist 1990s dressing. For the Spring Summer2017 Atelier collection the design team looked to Kew Gardens and drew inspiration from Britishflora. Hand painted botanical blooms create unique prints, which form the basis of the collection. The prints sit across maxi dresses, shorter summer dresses and jumpsuits in a colour palette of vibrant yellow, powerfulpurple and femininerose sitting back on white and black. Accessories take inspiration from two different palettes, whether in bold primary colour striped leather tote bags or stand out colour popping suede flats with ruffling details. Neutral shades such as black or blush form an edit of easy sandals, tumbled leather envelope style clutches and soft form tote bags. Trainers feature a crepe sole and brogue detailing in white and palest pink .

Reasons to Be Damn Single Proud That
1. You refuse to settle. Like my friend Amy, the fact that you want to be with someone doesn't mean you'll settle for anyone. You want a man who makes your heart skip a beat, who makes you laugh and feel happy just to be around him—and you're willing to wait for him. 3. You're focusing on your career. For years, another friend—we'll call her Morgan—was content to casually date but never settle down because she was determined to make it in her field, and that meant picking up and moving—often, and across the country. Now she's ready to seriously date, with zero regrets.
5. Yo u ' re s t i l l discovering what you want from a man. As my mother says, "Dating is a lot like shopping: You're supposed shapes and styles. Otherwise, how do you know what fits best?" Staying My friend—let's call her Amy—is seriously sad about being single. She's spent many a night bemoaning just how bad it single to find who stinks to go to bed alone when she'd willingly trade her beloved purse collection to sleep beside a cover hog. As someone and what works who sometimes disliked being single myself, I totally get the instinct to feel down—but that's not how I want my friend or best for you, I think, any single lady to feel! So I recently challenged her to view her temporary singledom in a brighter light: She should be is smart. (It's also damn proud her high standards kept her from settling down with, say, the know-it-all who belittled her beer choice on —their first date. If you find yourself in my friend Amy's shoes, I'd encourage you to also take pride in your single status avoid settling!) e s p e c i a l l y i f i t ' s f o r o n e o f t h e s e .s i x r e a s o n
2. You left a toxic relationship. Maybe you could have a plus-one—if you were willing to put up with namecalling, scorekeeping, and ghosting. But you know being single is way better than being with a man who makes you feel less-than. 4. You're learning about yourself. Some of us have lost ourselves in relationships and marriages. When they end, we're left wondering who we were before "I" became "we." It's a noble act to focus on finding yourself and your happiness once more before welcoming another man into your life. 6. You're busy loving your life. Pa c k i n g y o u r schedule with things that make you happy deep in your soul—dinner dates with friends, solo travel, art classes, volunteer work, whatever!—
means, metaphorically,
you've baked your life into a really delicious cake. And any man lucky enough to wiggle his way into your schedule will be the best buttercream icing.

#3. Strobe Over Contour As part of this minimalist trend, we’ve seen a lot of makeup artists spit in the face of the mainstream contour obsession. Instead, it was all about dewy high lights that really brought out the models’ best features, and created an ethereal effect. For Roberto Cavalli, Pat McGrath favored a center of the face highlight, which she concentrated on the center of the forehead, down the nose, and right above the cupid’s bow – the effect was totally ethereal. For Valentino, on the other hand, she concentrated the highlight on the cheekbones, making it clear that a solid shimmer can totally eliminate the need for a contour powder. Tom Pecheux designed Marni’s glossy highlights. He paid particular attention to the forehead, bridge of the nose, and chin, but also gave a touch of sheen to the cheekbones, creating a really natural and soft highlight that really called attention to the naturally sculpted features, without making them appear too sharp.
#4. Soft, Warm Contour
The summer 2017 makeup trends are here, and all of you makeup-phobes can let out a sigh of relief. The defining makeup style for this upcoming season is minimal and effortless.
Summer 2017 Makeup Trends
It seems to me that this year the makeup artists of the fashion world rebelled against mainstream beauty. This year’s runway was just as starkly marked by absence, as it was by presence. Gone were the thick eyebrows and graphic lips of yesteryear. Heavy cream contour was nowhere in sight. The fashion makeup trends for summer 2017 are all about moving away from the heavy makeup style of Instagram. Instead, the summer season will have makeup styles that are quick and effortless, and naturally beautiful. The summer 2017 beauty trends aren’t just about natural – many of them are quite bold, and feature lots of color. The difference is that shadows and lipsticks were applied quickly – sharp edges and fleeky wings were given nearly zero consideration. Additionally, most of the bold colors and funky shapes were kept to minimal areas, while the rest of the face was done in the winning style of the season: extremely natural. This is the season for the lazy girls, and the brave women, those who act quickly and spontaneously, those who decide to go all out with neon eyeshadows two minutes before leaving the house. summer 2017 is the season of fearlessly flawful makeup, and the guts to bare it all.
#1. No Makeup Makeup
#2. No Powder, No Problems
Sometimes, achieving that perfect no makeup makeup look takes just as long as that heavy makeup for a night out. Of all the gorgeous beauty looks we saw this year, the totally natural makeup look reigned supreme. This is more than just one of the summer 2017 makeup trends – this is a forever beauty trend. Lanvin’s show was a perfect iteration of this makeup style, with the models wearing a full face of undetectable makeup. Their contour was perfectly blended, and their eyelashes never clumped together thanks to too much mascara. It was perfect execution of light handed application and blending that is always sure to flatter. At Michael Kors, makeup artist Dick Page also stuck to the no makeup makeup look with most models, occasionally even skipping steps like lipstick and blush, making this beauty look very nude in color. We also saw lovely no makeup makeup looks on the runways of Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen.
The biggest of the summer 2017 makeup trends was all about skipping the powder. Almost everywhere we looked on the runway this year, we saw impossibly dewy skin that was completely powder free. I really hope this minimalist makeup trend catches on, because it’s beautiful and easy, and makes for an excellent departure from the oh-so-popular powder baking trend that leaves the skin looking super matte. This decision to eschew setting and mattifying powders really stands out at Boss, where the models’ skin positively shone. We suspect that Pat McGrath may have even skipped foundation with some of the models, making the statement that bare is in. Pat McGrath also skipped the powder and foundation at Givenchy, making full use of the fact that all the models walking the runway for this collection had flawless skin. Most of us don’t have model perfect skin, so a little concealer can go a long way. We also saw naturally dewy models at Jil Sander, where the rest of the look was also quite minimalist, with just a touch of contour and lips in soft shades of peach and raspberry.
41
While over most of the runway, minimal base makeup trends for summer 2017 reigned supreme, with highlight much more popular than contour, a few makeup artists weren’t willing to give it up. However, instead of a cool or reddish contour, the preference for yellow-based bronzers and neutral taupes was clear. At Tibi the contour was very yellow-based, and likely one of the strongest on any of the runways. This matte color was applied only below the cheekbones, and only blended minimally. In some cases, the result was almost absurdly strong and very high fashion. Consider playing around with a yellow-brown bronzer, because it is perfect for summer, just please keep it a bit more subtle. At Guy Laroche we saw a similar warm contour, paired with peachy blush. At Bottega Veneta we saw a neutral taupe contour that was well blended – this is a much more natural take on contour that still sculpts the faces of those of us not endowed with model-esque features, but is not obvious or overdone. Here’s to hoping this style of face sculpting overtakes the Instagram contour trend, because it’s a faster application, and it looks much better in real life. We also saw some artists utilizing soft contour techniques at Topshop Unique, and Giorgio Armani.
#5. ‘80s Makeup Touches: Eyeshadow? Blush? What’s the Difference? We saw a touch of the Eighties coming back with the summer 2017 makeup trends, as really bold eyeshadow was swept from the crease, all the way past the eyebrows, and into the temples and tops of the cheeks. I adore this kind of blurring of the definitions – why does it matter if it says blush or eyeshadow on the packaging? If the color is right, apply it wherever it’ll look good! At Max Mara the shadows all over the face effect was achieved in a variety of bright colors, like yellows, reds, greens, and blues. For a few of the looks, Tom Pecheux skipped the eyes altogether, and painted the eyeshadow like war-paint on the models’ cheekbones. At Kenzo all the models had a pinkish red color applied in a semi circle, from the outer corner of their lids, into their temples, and the top of their cheekbones. The blush draping trend was monochromatic, with the lips painted a similar shade of red. The overall effect was a little Chinese opera, and a little Moulin Rouge. On the Adam Selman runway we saw a much softer version of this style, with pink eyeshadow adorning the models’ lids, temples, and cheekbones, and the rest of their faces softly highlighted. It was by far the most wearable version of this summer 2017 beauty trend. We also saw similar extended ’80s eyeshadow looks on the Chanel and Louis Vuitton catwalks.

Stella Jean for MARINA RINALDI The SS 17 capsule collection Caribbean meets Mediterranean. Essences, colours and spices blended with dances, love stories, ancient beliefs and contemporary vibrancy are softened by Italian style, almost as if on the crest of a wave capable of crossing even the most different of worlds. Magic, a hint of the exotic, and effervescen ce converge harmoniously in the SS 2017 capsule collection created by Stella Jean for Marina Rinaldi: a mini collection that expresses the passion, vitality and lilting rhythms of the Caribbean, imbued with a traditionally Mediterranean style. The main inspiration behind the capsule collection lies in this fluid crossover between such distant cultures: the exuberance and seemingly disruptive momentum that has made Stella Jean famous blends and softens as it comes into contact with the sophistication and elegance of Marina Rinaldi. Stella Jean’s creations for Marina Rinaldi contain all the elements that have made the Haitian-Italian designer famous: the multiculturalism of the contemporary woman, a sophisticated design project, and a clear passion for craft smanship that becomes a style in itself but also involves an ethical choice when it comes to creating fashion. Graphic prints and geometric jacquards counterbalance the soft rhythms of flared skirts and blouses that glide over the body to emphasise it. Th e gracefulness of a plain white tshirt becomes tinged with nuances thanks to the hopscotch motif. Satin, cotton poplin and crêpe de chine alternate to give cady fabrics a structural and creative sophistication, and to bring an unmistakeable “bluntness” to matting. First and foremost, it is an intent shared between Stella Jean and Marina Rinaldi that stands out: the preciousness of luxury can never be separated from an ethical conscience; beauty is sustainable and producing it provides an opportunity for women to grow and develop. The women from all over the world bravely supported by Stella Jean are linked in this way, as if by magic, to those to whom Marina Rinaldi has always given a voice through its fashion, celebrating the authentic synergy of values that connects the two brands, which goes beyond fashion and, repeatedly and firmly, puts women centre stage.
