ALUMNI SPEAK Mr. Bijoy Banerjee and Ms Babita Banerjee (FIIB Alumni Class of 1999) share more from their journey since FIIB and their plans for life You are amongst the select batch of alumni at FIIB who found their better half on campus. How did both of you connect? Bijoy: We met on the 27th day of our college. I guess we were the first couple in our batch! It was the Fresher’s Party at FIIB that brought us together. Babita: We made group projects and presentations together and this gave us opportunities to interact and get to know each other better. Most of our interactions were in a group and we started enjoying each other’s company. It’s been 14 years since then, but still feels like those early days! Congratulations on your victory at 3rd Kolkata Shorts International Film Festival 2014. How did film making and acting come your way? Bijoy: Film making is the only thing I want to do. Always wanted to pursue film direction at some point in my lifetime. This was not fashion or short lived love for me; rather it was “my calling”. For a long time now, I was deliberately and consciously sparing out time from my schedule and pursue my passion towards film making. In fact I have also done a short course in filmmaking to hone my skills in this field. Babita: I was trying acting for the first time. The script was quite good and I was able to relate to it very easily, so that made acting quite an easy task for me. The film proved to be an opportunity for him to be acknowledged as a director and me as an actor.

“In last 2-3 years, we have seen lots of alumni activities happening and we really appreciate the efforts. It’s good to catch up with old friends and we promise we will attend a get together very soon.” What are your future plans? Bijoy: The blueprint of my plans is ready and you will soon see me directing films full time. Currently working on script of my first feature film. Babita: I am a trained Kathak dancer and currently learning other dance forms like hip hop. I plan to teach this fusion dance form someday. Apart from dance, I feel very happy being with children. I have done special training in child education and have developed special content for play school. I plan to start a play school in next couple of years. In addition to this, I am involved in many social activities too. Feels good have new challenges.

Did FIIB play a role in your film career? Bijoy: Yes, certainly. I would like to give credits to a few professors at FIIB, particularly, our marketing professor back then – he turned out to be a guiding force in my life. FIIB has played a role in shaping up my personality as well. Today I am considered as a successful business leader, audience in international conferences applaud my speeches, I am regarded as a mentor - I believe FIIB has foot prints in all these. I also made great friends at FIIB and am happy that they are doing so well in their lives. I continue to fondly remember professors who were always ready to help us. Babita: FIIB has certainly helped me to become stronger and more confident. I believe FIIB has contributed in shaping up business and career outlook. I want to thank all the professors. And of course, the wonderful friendships that I developed in those 2 years.

FROM FIIB COMMUNITY In conversation with Virender Sir aka VK Sir who has been with FIIB for 17 years now

Sir, you are managing accounts for FIIB for last 17 years. From where this sense of belongingness come? I personally believe in doing what you love. My love and dedication for my job keeps me going and I am looking forward to contribute my best in future too.

We have seen many students taking basic accounting classes with you, do you love to teach? Yes, I love to teach. In fact I got to know about this interest in FIIB only, when I taught basic accounts to Sati and Madhu (2nd year students) and helped them score quite decent in their Mid Term. (And my reward was a Chocolate). Currently, I am also trying to take small sessions with first year students.

Can you recall your first day at FIIB? I joined FIIB on 27th January 1997- 17 years ago. Infact that day the first batch of FIIB was passing out. My key role was to handle accounts and I also played a supporting role in IT and library.

According to you, how FIIB has evolved in last so many years?

“I wish we could meet more often and revive our old memories together. Do meet me during the Alumni Meets that our alumni cell organizes every year!

FIIB has always attempted to provide the best to its students. Apart from the curriculum; FIIB introduced foreign tours, Meraki (B-plan competition), Samavesh (Fest entirely organized by students) and many other initiatives; that have, in my opinion, helped students to develop many required skills. I have seen FIIB transforming many lives here

Can you recall any student from the previous batches? Yes ofcourse! I remember many students and feel elated when they come to campus and take out two minutes to meet me. I particularly remember Vikas Sharma from 1999 batch, who I met during Alumni Awards Night. Meeting him after 13 years was a great feeling. It was really surprising to see no change in his looks and I was able to recognize him within a fraction of second. As a student, I remember he was one of the most sincere and well behaved students.

Any message to our alumni? I am very proud that our alumni are reaching heights and sharing successful stories. This really motivates us to strive more for success of our current students. I understand that all of you are working across the globe, but I wish we could meet and talk more. Our alumni team is really trying hard to conduct alumni meets across India; your presence will allow both of us to review the old memories of FIIB!! VK Sir may be reached at vk.jain@fiib.edu.in

BOTTLED THOUGHTS Memories are always special.. Sometimes we laugh by remembering the days we cried, and we cry by remembering the days when we laughed.. Mr. Trailukya Dutta (2005-2007 Batch), recalls “In one session of the debate while referring to the images of a few known faces in Indian advertisements; I quoted by mistake that Shahrukh Khan carried a ‘multisexual’ image. The right word was ‘metrosexual’, not multisexual. All my classmates and Proffesor burst into laughter. I really had no clue until I was explained how slip of the tongue can create a hilarious situation.” Ms. Harshie Wahi (2008-2010 Batch) for whom life since FIIB has not been less than a roller coaster ride, shares “I still have fond memories from those two golden years at FIIB. When I recollect those sweet memories in random, a smile always joins me. The various kinds of activities such as those of dance performances, making presentations, bunking classes are some of the evergreen memories that I will cherish throughout my life.”

Mr. Yogesh Anand (2006-2008 Batch) when asked how FIIB and its alumni can reconnect said ‘FIIB needs to take some steps and the Alumni will be more than happy to contribute in any way possible”

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE We would love to know more about whats happening at your end! If you would like to share your FIIB story, please drop us an email and we shall get in touch with you to know about your Favorite Sessions, Favorite hangout place and other memories of FIIB.
