18th Convocation at FIIB

FIIB’s 18th Batch (Class of 2014) seen here with Chief Guest- Mr. Vinay Mittal (Chief Financial Strategist, HT Media); Ms. Radhika Shrivastava (Executive Director, FIIB) and the entire Faculty Group of FIIB FIIB’s 18th annual convocation ceremony was celebrated on 9th May, 2014 as parents admired their wards for reaching the finishing line of a long marathon. A wave of unrestrained optimism and joy filled the air, as students stepped on the stage to collect their PGDM degrees and awards. The hall of PHD Chambers of Commerce was engulfed in energy, enthusiasm and liveliness as Fortune Institute of International Business awarded 169 diplomas to its graduating batch and felicitated 9 students for their academic achievement.

Excerpts from the Chief Guest

Mr. Mittal’s Convocation Speech Touches on Essence of Hard Work and Optimism Mr. Vinay Mittal, Chief Financial Strategist, HT Media shared a few life changing principles during his Convocation Address at the 18th Convocation Day, FIIB. He encouraged the graduating batch to stand up and live for the moment through smart & hard work. He emphasized that one should embark on the voyage of life with a “never say die” spirit. He helped students to reflect on the principles of innovation and keeping an open mind with examples from history and science. He inspired them to think big and become optimistic individuals, no matter where they stood at that point of life. Speaking about how the human mind works, he reiterated that without an open mind and motivation, there would be no great discoveries or accomplishments! As the class of 2014, FIIB PGDM steps forward to go out into the real world; Mr. Mittal’s words will certainly add more sense into their journey of success.

The kids enjoyed the day as they indulged in drawing games, magic shows and dance.

Throughout the academic year, FIIB-ians organize various events as a part of the student led clubs. With the new academic year in progress, it is only apt to quickly recap some of the conferences that were organized during 20132014. During the year, over several day long conferences were organized on Marketing Analytics, Operations, HR, Finance, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship. Students worked selflessly and tirelessly during the conferences as they coordinated with the speakers, planned an impeccable speaker line up and asked thought provoking questions. In various inter and intra college competitions, the students participated with zeal and enthusiasm to put their best foot forward and brining laurels to the Institute.

FIIB-ians with Mumbai Dabbawaalas

Sigma organised their first Operations Excellence Conference (OPEX) 2013 on 31st August 2013 where Mumbai Dabbawaalas visited the college to share their secrets of being a six sigma organization of world fame following a panel discussion on Sustainable Supply Chain Strategy

Cynergy organised a day long Innovation in HR : Gearing Towards 2020 where HR Mangers discussed emerging trends and use of social media in employer branding. Through this annual conference, Cynergy brings various trends in HR onto the discussion table and proves to be an enriching experience for all the students. Curve at FIIB Conclaves and Summits at FIIB. These events were organised by the students Marketing, Sustainability, Operations, Human Resource etc.

The Sports Committee organised a day long intra college cricket match- Cricket Sangram. FIIB Students, Staff and Faculty warmed up and battled it out on the Cricket field at IIT Grounds and indulged in a weekend of cricket playing exciting matches against each other.

Alumni Sports Meet 2013

Held on 17th November 2013, FIIB Alumni Sports Meet was attended by over 200 alumni from across the country and the event was hosted by the FIIB Alumni Cell and Student Committee. Students, Faculty and Alumni at FIIB unwound playing variety of indoor and outdoor games

FIIB organized its first Marketing Analytics Conference (MAC) where speakers from Homestead, Microsoft, Nokia, Fractal Analytics, Healthkart, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Khozikode and FIIB came together to share their views on the important topics of Big Data Analytics, Marketing Database Analytics and Customer Analytics. Held on 19th October 2013, at Le Meridien Hotel, the conference brought professionals, experts and students under one roof to facilitate important debates and discussions regarding Marketing Analytics. Featured Story: Meraki and Samavesh FIIB nurtures young entrepreneurial talent through an annual pan India B-Plan competition Meraki. This year Meraki was conducted on 17th-18th January 2014 concluded with an Entrepreneurial Summit The B-plan judging panel included Mr. Alok Mittal (Managing Director, Canaan India), Mr. Manish Kheterpal (Chairman, FIIB; Ex-Director, Providence Equity, Actis Advisors and Rho Ventures), Mr. Amit Khosla (Managing Director, AsiaBridge), Mr. Vishal Dixit (Director, Zephyr Peacock), Mr. Anshoo Sharma (Partner, Lightspeed Ventures) and Mr. Sarbvir Singh (Managing Director, Capital18)

Meraki received over 100 high-quality Bplans from IIM’s, IIT’s, University of Delhi, JamnaLal Bajaj, IMI, BITS Pilani, IMT, among others and top 10 teams presented their plans to a panel of investors. Thereafter 3 teams were awarded FIIB Meraki Fellowships worth Rs 1,00,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively

FIIB-ians organize a two day annual cultural extravaganza- Samavesh through which they demonstrate initative, management acumen and ability to execute. This year, Samavesh was held on 1st and 2nd of March 2014 Over a hundred participants joined Samavesh from Jesus and Mary College (JMC), Hansraj, Sri Venketeswara College, Zakir Husain, Lal Bahadur Shastri College, Jamia Hamdard, Faculty of Management Studies, Amity University, Lady Shri Ram College, Miranda House and others. “Sitting through the Digital Marketing lectures helped me understand the best practices of social media marketing and we implemented those learnings to market Samavesh through Facebook and other popular social media channels. The course on strategy helped my team members to plan and execute better while the course on Data analysis facilitated easy analysis of the large pool of data we gathered for sponsors and partnership!” shares Ariba Hussain, Student Co Head- Cultural Committee (2013-2014) while celebrating the success of Samavesh

Passing the Light: An FIIB Tradition At FIIB, Leadership is not just about playing the role to perfection, but about creating a legacy and leaders that can follow and carry the torch forward. Also, each year the student life experience changes as new students bring with them their ideas and while change is inevitable, there are some events that have stood the test of time and change, in a culture that values Innovation. These events have thus earned the status of FIIB Traditions. One such FIIB Tradition is the Passing of Light on Farewell, when the new Leaders for the Student Clubs at FIIB are inducted. FIIB-ians hosted students and faculty from Sam Walton College of Business during the weekend of 17th-18th May 2014. The two days intense learning program proved to be fruitful for the students as well as the guests. ‘In the beginning we thought we are so different from each other but by the end of the program we realized that we are similar in many ways too.
