Curriculum Vitae

To the attention of Jon Foley, Application for the position of Part 1 Architectural Assistant. In the following letter I would like to explaine why I want to be part of DKA. I will take this chance to introduce myself - showing how I meet the criteria of the post found on dezeenjobs.com - and hopefully this could be a new beginning. First of all, I have learned about the existence of David Kohn Architects when, in one of my visits to Barcelona, the architects and friends Flores & Prats gave me a copy of the Magazine QUADERNS. In that issue it was published the Refurbishment of an apartment on carrer Avinyo, Barcelona. Ever since I’ve keept and eye opened on your work. What interest me in your work is your approach: “Dal cucchiaio alla città” as Ernesto Nathan Rogers once said. The typical approach of a Milanese architect. Capable to design from the spoon to the city. As a matter of fact I am interested in all the different scale of architecture from the interior and its details to the urban scale and the landscape. Thus I have always tried to create a path that would help me to learn and understand how to work in such different scales from both my academic education and the work experiences I have done. While being a student I have worked and collaborated for both architects and landscape designers. I have taken classes of Landscape Architecture as exchange student at TU Delft and I have graduated at Politecnico di Milano with a dissertation on landscape photography as a critical tool to read the environment in which we live. Once graduated in Architecture I kept collaborating with YellowOffice in Milano mainly as draftman for final designs and as assistant on landscape design competitions. Meanwhile I was working as freelance photographer and assistant photographer.

Filippo Abrami (1986) graduated in Architecture (M.Sc.) from the International programme of Politecnico di Milano with a dissertation on landscape photography as a critical tool entitled “Does landscape make photography or it’s photography that produces landscape(s)?”. While being a student he worked with Flores & Prats Architects in Barcelona and YellowOffice Landscape Design in Milan. In 2013 he has been recipient of the Leonardo da Vinci Grant and moved to Portugal. With Paratelier participated and won several international competitions in architecture and landscape design, he also acquired direct experience in construction site and in the production of wooden and cork furniture. After that he moved back to Barcelona working mainly on the New Sala Beckett Theater a project now under construction. Currently lives and works in Brescia.

I won the Leonardo da Vinci Grant I have moved to Portugal where I have started working with Paratelier. I was responsable for the competition team and later I have been involved in the production of furniture and in the realization of proposals for the refurbishment of an old rammed earth house in Alentejo as well as other proposals for the same client. After a short period in Lisbon as freelancer doing competitions and looking for a job I have moved to Barcelona to work with Flores & Prats Architects. I was in charge of the model making room, coordinating the work of the interns due to my previuos experience in the office and I was working mainly on the New Sala Beckett Theater, a project now under construction. My role was both of draftman and model maker supervisor.Further more I have collaborated editing and preparing materials for the partecipation of the office at the Venice Biennale and for the making of the book “Pensado a mano/Though by hand”. Recently I came back home for family reasons and I am willing to start a new experience abroad, this time in London. Kind Regards, Filippo Abrami
