Filippo Abrami (Brescia, 1986)
EDUCATION
graduated with honors in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 2012 with a thesis named “Does landscape make photography or it’s photography that produces landscape(s)?” in which he developed a discourse on the role of the photographer as topographer, inscribing landscape photography as a branch of contemporary geography, producing a cartography made of images, describing the complexity of the landscape and rising questions on contemporary issues. He has been trained in the field of architecture by Flores Prats Architects in Barcelona and in the field of landscape design by YellowOffice in Milano. Currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.

IMPROVEMENT OF PEDASTRIAN AND CYCLE PATH OF VARESE LAKE (Third Prize) with PARATELIER (2013)
The aim of the competition was to produce consistent site specific solutions that could re-organize the existing bike path on the perimeter of Varese Lake. Creating a network of towns each overlooking the lake, each with their own needs, demands and characteristics. Thus the goal was to draw a set of service infrastructures, new “tangential” architectures that could enhance the already established Varese Lake pedestrian and cycle path. But before searching for the answers
we wanted to shift the requests of this competion and look for the identity and the potentials of the area. Within the system of the Seven Lakes of the Province of Varese which includes Maggiore Lake, Comabbio Lake, Lugano Lake, Ganna Lake, Ghirla Lake and Monate Lake, what is the identity of Varese Lake? What are the innovative solutions capable of enhancing the Lake and foster mechanisms of economic injection? What are the chances for a research respectful of the environment
and conscious of the fundamental laws that govern nature and its ecology? Eventually, can we try to develop a model of alternative development, able to donate to Varese Lake the centrality that it deserves? Againts a sequence of micro interventions that attempt to plan and crystallize the natural treasures of the place, observing them from afar, we respond with a single gesture: using water as its main element, capable to connect the beauties of the Lake and its
surroundings, giving back to the Lake it’s active and leading role. We want to build a cultural “platform” where the force of nature and its dynamics are not planned nor caged in small laboratory architectures, in elements scattered around the perimeter in the area. Instead, we aim to create a backbone that from the urban fabric leads into lake landscape. Where nature can be observed at 360 degrees and understood from the inside.

LA CITTĂ€ DEL PARCO NAZIONALE DEL CILENTO, VALLO DI DIANO E ALBURNI (Special Mention) with Paratelier (2013) The re-discovery of a system of historic cross routes between the coast and the interior (Vallo di Diano) will ensure a unique experience through a sequence of rich and diverse landscapes of the Cilento National Park. We have identified, in the intricate network of paths of the Park, a Main Network that allow the visit on foot or by bicycle and it is capable to produce moments that highlight the exceptional and diverse landscape, for an extension of about 210 km.
The presence of those transversal paths allow to discover a territory with expressive variations: starting from the landscape of the coastal slopes and cliffs or by the beaches and dunes apparatus, through the gentle hilly Mediterranean vegetation interspersed with olive trees and the vineyards, until the karst topography that shapes the interior mountanous complex (AlburnoDorsale del Chianello) and southern complex (Monte Stella, Massiccio del Gelbison Cervati and Monte di Bulgaria),
crossing the plains south of the Valle dell’Alento and Valle Calore in the north, ending in the agricultural landscape of floodplains intramountain of Vallo di Diano. We propose three main routes linking the Coast to the Vallo di Diano using , whenever possible, the existing tracks that are superimposed on a system of ridges, connecting a large portion of the panoramic landscape of the Park and articulating points with cultural or natural relevance. Furthermore we
propose a path of inner longitudinal connection between the three routes, so as to touch a large area of the Park. Each path can be seen as catalyst of economies and celebration of local identity. Revitalization of the local production systems is crucial. Each path is associated with a character and a program that in the quality of the landscape intercepted finds his sense of relevance, which we want the visitor to understand and explore.

LAUSANNE JARDINS 2014 with YellowOffice (2013) The project revisits the tale of Rapunzel as a reference to establish a possible dialogue between nature and mankind. The intent is to create a new relationship between the context and the users - triggering a series of new possible experience between the existing landmarks and the users passing by the site. The tower becomes not only an historical reference but also a new place where users can rest and rethink the city context in a different way. Therefore the golden hair of the main
character of the tale becomes the metal canopy with interweaved cables and creepers under which the users can experience a new space. The choice of the vegetation represents the continuous mutation of love and craving for something there to look but not reachable. Colours of the leaves will variate in an array of different scenarios creating a series of new and unexpected effects in different seasons. The proposal will be the occasion for a urban regeneration by a landscape
installation, in which both the tower and the existing vegetation are rationalised into a magical scene dominated by the flower of the Rapunzel tale – the flower of light which will grow to cast light on a rocky garden full of weaving vegetation which will define eternal quality of the space. The installation is completed by a continuous seating which reflects the concentrical lines of the installation and allows for resting area where the users can experience at full the intervention.
The circular pattern of the plan layout is also expressed by a series of independent seating areas which spread in the square (the desert if you follow the plot of the story of Rapunzel) following a ripple effect emanating from the tower. The canopy is understood as a metal profile with steel cables which reflect a ripple effect from the tower and articulate in section a shading device and the frame which will allow the vegetation to grow towards the towers in a concetrical pattern.
