Bagong Residency Management System, Ipinatupad Ipinatupad na ang revised immigration law o ang bagong residency management system noong Hulyo 9 para sa mga foreign nationals sa Japan na may medium hanggang long-term residence status base sa Immigration Control Act.

Ngunit ano nga ba ang nakapaloob sa bagong residency management system? May apat na pangunahing punto ang sistemang ito: 1. Bibigyan ng resident card ng regional immigration office ang mga foreign nationals. Ang card na ito ay may IC chip para hindi mapeke. 2. Ang period of stay ay aabot hanggang 5 taon mula sa dating 3 taon. 3. Hindi na kailangan pa na magapply ng re-entry permit kung babalik naman sa Japan sa loob ng isang taon. 4. Mawawala na ang alien card

na iniisyu ng local municipal office at papalitan ng bagong resident card mula sa regional immigration office. Ayon sa pamahalaang Hapon, ang bagong residency management system ay isang paraan upang mas mapadali ang kanilang access sa mga personal na impormasyon ng mga foreign nationals tulad ng uri ng visa at address. Dagdag pa nila na mas mapapabuti ng sistemang ito ang kanilang serbisyo sa mga dayuhan na legal na naninirahan sa Japan Hati ang opinyon ng mga dayuhang apektado ng bagong sistema na ito. May ilang sumasangayon ngunit marami rin naman ang tumututol.

Para kay Gervin Paulo Macion, kindergarten teacher at kilalang fashion blogger sa Tokyo (http:// jennechrisville.com/), wala naman masama sa mga pagbabagong ito. Ayon din sa kanya, makakatulong pa nga ang hindi pangangailangan ng re-entry permit para umikli ang pila at lumuwag kahit paano sa mga immigration offices. Samantala, hindi naman sangayon si Mike Solis, empleyado ng isang construction company. Kahit na may dugong hapon at legal na namimirmihan sa Japan, para sa kanya ay labag ito sa karapatang pantao ng mga dayuhan na nasa bansa.

One cannot say that they’ve seen the Philippines without having been to Puerto Princesa. While a popular tourist destination in its own right, it’s hardly as wellknown as other destinations like Bohol or Boracay. Worse, it’s simply associated with the Puerto Princesa Underground River - which, while a sight to see in itself, is hardly the only thing that tourists and bakasyonistas can take in and enjoy when in the capital of Palawan. 6

he province of Palawan is often hailed as part of the Philippines’ ‘last frontier’, owing to both richness of species of flora and fauna in the region, but also because of its pristine beaches and islands. Its capital, Puerto Princesa, is the largest city in the country, with a total land area of 253,982 hectares. If you want to explore the entirety of Palawan in one go, Puerto Princesa serves as the hub where you can take all sorts of transportation going to other exotic destinations within the province such as El Nido or Coron.

Things to Do:

Travelers and tourists will be glad to know that the tours in Puerto Princesa are very organized and is centralized and managed by the city government. The rates are also standard, regardless of your accommodations. You have the option to go dolphin-watching, dive and swim in the Dos Palmas or Honda Bay island hopping tours, take a quick scenic and historic tour of the city and its surrounding environs, and of course, experience the famous Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR), which is now a part of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Dolphin-watching and the city tour take about half a day, while the Dos Palmas, Honda Bay (Island Hopping) and PPUR tours take a whole day. Your tour fee (paid per head to your hotel) covers transportation from and to your hotel and a tour guide for half day tours, plus lunch if your tour will take a whole day. When it comes to cuisine, you might want to test your palate – and your squeamishness while you’re at it – by trying exotic delicacies such as crocodile meat (which is actually quite tasty) and the tamilok or wood worm. Another ‘tamer’ native delicacy would be bird’s nest soup, which is available

on the menus of many restaurants in the city. Particular places of interest when dining that you should visit at least once are Ka Lui’s and Kinabutch. Both are affordable and offer a wide array of good food. If you like a quiet, laidback ambiance, Ka Lui’s will better serve you – just remember to have your hotel or inn make reservations in advance for you, especially if you plan to visit during dinner time. If drinks and pulutan is what you are looking for, then Kinabutch is right up your alley. There are also a number of good authentic Vietnamese canteens and restaurants scattered all throughout the city, owing to its history of being a haven for Vietnamese refugees during the 80’s and 90’s.

Where to Stay:

Accommodations-wise, Puerto Princesa is one of the most budgetfriendly tourist destinations you can visit in the Philippines. Clean and secure rooms can be had for as cheap as

900 pesos, but the best are mid-range places where you’ll only need to shell out anywhere from 1,500-3,000 pesos a night. Hotels also serve as the pickup points for tours – just inform the desk what tours you are interested in, as well as the available schedules for each. Most accommodations are all within the city proper, and are easily accessible through public transportation.

Getting There:

From Manila, the most straightforward way is by plane. Commercial flights through various airlines like Philippine Airlines, Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific are abundant all year, but the best time to visit is after the rainy season (‘ber’ months). You may also try just before summer like during February and March, so you can avoid the larger crowd of tourists that flock to Puerto Princesa during the summer. Also, it is recommended that you pick accommodations that will accept advanced reservations.

ulti-faceted – singer, actress, host, songwriter, endorser, blogger – Karylle is never afraid of trying new things whether it be in writing a song, playing different and challenging roles or pushing herself to go beyond her comfort zone. Karylle just shines. In fact, she landed major roles in musicals like “Little Mermaid”, “West Side Story” and recently “The Kitchen Musical” where she was nominated for best actress in the 2012 Monte Carlo Festival held in Monaco. Not to mention, the music albums, hit singles, movies, TV shows and concerts that she did. Everything is looking up for Karylle. And just like a storybook, she’s living a colorful life imaginable. FJM: Describe yourself in one word. Why? Karylle: Creative. I'd like to think that I'm a creative person in everything I do. Especially in the way I channel positivity in most anything I come across. FJM: What makes you happy? Karylle: Little things. But it really makes me happy to catch people in beautiful moments-bursts of joy, triumph, a simple smile, singing a catchy tune. When people are happy, you share in their joy and share yours as well. FJM: What are your beauty regimens? Karylle: I use Cetaphil to keep my face clean. I wear the yellow Belo sunblock. There's a different one for the face and a different one for the body. I also have monthly botanical facials in Belo that I like to call fruity facial plus ice mask after. I also have intense pulse light IPL once in 3 months.

FJM: Your latest album “Roadtrip” is a hit. What is that one song in the album that perfectly describes how you are feeling right now and why? Karylle: I wrote it in a span of three years so it’s really bits and pieces of what I went through or what I was playing around with in my head. But I guess the newest ones that I did are “Basically” and “OMG”. “Basically” which I co-wrote, right now is pretty close to how I’m feeling right now. 8

FJM: You’re also a health buff. How do you stay fit? Karylle: I go to Gold's gym, I also do pilates, I also love to run. I join a lot of fun runs but haven't joined one this year because my knee got injured. I love running when I travel. In my last trip to Monaco I did a quick jog with my director Cheek. Breathtaking view of Monaco!

FJM: How does it feel to be a part of “The Kitchen Musical”? Karylle: It's a dream come true. I always believed that I was born in the wrong time and place because gone are the glory days of the musicals. The laser discs I watched as a child but now with Moulin Rouge, of course Glee, and Smash... I have hopes that I get to do more musicals on TV and on film. FJM: What is your favorite song in the series and why? Karylle: “Unwell”. It was one of the first scenes we shot. After we shot the first take, one of the young interns was crying. By the second take, I dedicated it to her. I was so surprised that I was able to communicate to a young Singaporean even if we were worlds apart. When I went out of the set, I found out that even more people cried while watching the scene. I'll never forget that. That's when I knew for sure and first hand that music is the universal language and that we'll be able to cross borders with this Pan-Asian TV Show. FJM: How does it feel to be nominated for best actress at the 52nd Monte Carlo TV Festival? Karylle: It's my first ever nomination so you can imagine my surprise and joy. During and after the awards, I felt and still feel an overwhelming sense of inspiration to do more and be more. I'm excited to go to work!

FJM: You have two regular shows on ABS-CBN, “ASAP” and “Showtime”. You get to perform in ASAP while you give the spotlight to other performers in Showtime. In what ways do these shows help you as an artist? Karylle: “Showtime” has taught me to be a bigger dreamer. I have been handed everything in a silver platter and that's not always ideal. It was after being a hurado in Showtime that “Kitchen Musical” happened. I believe it had something to do with my new goals, new dreams, new direction. “ASAP” is a lot of fun, we get to play around onstage and have mini concerts every week. FJM: What advice do you give Zia now that she’s part of showbiz? Karylle: Just to continue doing her own music. She is a wonderful songwriter as well. I'd like to hear more from her. And of course, to enjoy! Everybody loves Zia. I'm very proud of her. FJM: How do you support your mom Zsa Zsa Padilla with what she’s been going through especially in dealing with nasty reports about Dolphy? Karylle: In any family, the best thing is to be there for each other, be ready to listen to someone vent, be ready to be honest, be ready to give hugs. But best of all I always pray for them. FJM: If we’d open your heart now,

whose name will appear on it? Karylle: Haha alam mo na yon! =) FJM: What’s your ideal age to get married? Dream wedding? Karylle: God’s will. As for my dream wedding, I’d love for all my family and loved ones to be there. As you can see, a small and simple wedding is out of the question. I’d like for all my loved ones to bless me on that very important day. FJM: With the many hats that you’re wearing – singer, actress, host, endorser – at the end of day, who is Karylle and what do you want people to remember you for? Karylle: Hahaha funny coz I totally love hats. I’d love for people to remember me for changing the world. That is something I have yet to do. But it’s in the works. FJM: What are the things that you still want to do, life-wise and career-wise? Karylle: I would love to finish the book I’m trying to get published which is a collection of poetry and artwork. We still need some more funding. FJM: Any plans of visiting Japan? Karylle: I’d love to go. I’ve been waiting for an invitation. I was supposed to have a show right after the big earthquake recently. I guess I’ll just have to wait. I stopped over though on my way to New York last year for the Independence Day celebration.

“Cities Within a City”

in Tokyo

To provide comfort, convenience and safety for Tokyoites and expats, some of the biggest urban developers in Japan have built mega-complexes described as “cities within a city”, which mainly consist of offices, residential space, restaurants, hotels and other recreational facilities.

Here are five of the most popular “cities within a city” located in the Japanese capital: 1. Roppongi Hills – Opened in April 2003, the 27acre Roppongi Hills was developed by billionaire developer Minoru Mori. Some of the attractions here include the Tokyo City View, the giant spider called “Maman”, Sky Aquarium, Mori Art Museum, Mori Garden, Roppongi Hills Arena and the Mori Tower. IT companies like Livedoor and Yahoo! Japan also lease here. There are more than 200 restaurants, shops and boutiques in the area. Getting There: Roppongi Hills is 0-minute walk from Exit 1-C of Roppongi Station (Hibiya Line) and 4-minute walk from Exit 3 of Roppongi Station (Oedo Line). 2. Tokyo Midtown – Completed in March 2007, Tokyo Midtown measures 569,000 sq. meters and comprises of six gorgeous buildings, fully packed with modern facilities, high-end shops, restaurants, hotels, offices and museums. The entire complex is also surrounded by a green belt with over 100 cherry trees. Here, you can find the Midtown Tower which is now the tallest skyscraper in Tokyo prefecture with a height of 248 meters. Getting There: Roppongi Station on the Toei-Oedo Line, Tokyo Midtown is directly connected to Exit 8 of the station; Roppongi Itchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, 10-minute walk from Exit 1 of the station. 3. Yebisu Garden Place – Built on the former site of a beer brewery, Yebisu Garden Place is home to the Sapporo Beer Station, Ebisu Garden Cinema, Beer Museum Yebisu, Tokyo Photography Museum and Chateau Restaurant Taillvent-Robuchon. Yebisu Garden Place was opened to the public in 1994 and has long been a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike. Getting There: Yebisu Garden Place is a 5-minute walk from Ebisu Station, one station south of Shibuya Station on the JR Yamanote Line or JR Saikyo Line. 4. Akasaka Sacas – Opened in March 2008 for Tokyo Broadcasting System, Akasaka Sacas is made up of five buildings: The TBS headquarters, the Biz Tower, a high rise residence and two performance theaters, Blitz and ACT. Getting There: Take the Marunouchi Subway Line to Kokkaigijido-mae Station and transfer to the Chiyoda Subway Line for Akasaka. 5. Odaiba – Often described as the “futuristic district on a man-made island”, Odaiba was built by the Tokugawa shogunate in 1853 and was developed as a tourist and leisure zone in 1996. It is home to the Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba Ferris Wheel and Tokyo Big Sight, the country’s largest convention center. Nangungunang teleserye ngayon sa primetime TV series ang “Walang Hanggan” na ini-ere ng ABS-CBN at pinagbibidahan nina Coco Martin, Julia Montes, Richard Gomez at Dawn Zulueta. Sa katunayan, nasa 37.8 % ang rating nito sa Kantar Media-TNS Total Philippine Household Ratings noong Hunyo 13-18 habang nakakuha ito ng 28.8% sa AGB Nielsen Mega Manila Household Ratings sa parehong linggo.

Nagsimula ang serye nang paghiwalayin ni Margaret (Helen Gamoboa) ang kanyang anak na si Marco (Richard) sa kasintahang si Emily (Dawn) para ipakasal kay Jane (Rita Avila). Ipinakulong si Emily na noo’y nagdadalantao at nangakong maghihiganti kay Marco at sa ina nitong si Margaret. Magkasabay namang lumaki sina Daniel at Katerina matapos kupkupin ang una ng pamilya ng huli ngunit nagkawalay ang dalawa dahil sa mga ‘di inaasahang pagkakataon. Dito nagsimulang uminog ang pagtuklas sa katotohanan, paghihiganti at pakikipagpaglaban para sa pag-ibig. Nagkaroon ng pagkakataon ang publisher ng FilJap Magazine na si Mr. Yonei Toshikazu at maybahay nitong si Julie na makapunta sa location shoot ng “Walang Hanggan” sa Antipolo. Dito nakadaupang-palad nila ang ilang bituin ng serye na sina Dawn Zulueta, Susan Roces at Nonong Buencamino na magiliw namang nagpaunlak ng litrato. Ayon sa dalawa, nalakihan sila sa bahay kung saan nagsu-shoot ang mga stars ng “Walang Hanggan” at walang kupas umano ang kagandahan nina Susan at Dawn. Mabait at accommodating ang cast at crew ng teleserye kaya matagumpay ito sa ratings.

Just saw @EvaLongoria, Ms. Joan Collins, Ted Danson @stephenrahman_h @v_rosemary and Chad Michael Murray,” Karylle said via her Twitter account, @anakarylle. The Monte Carlo Festival is an award-giving body that recognizes the best television shows around the world. It was created in 1961 by Prince Rainier III whose ambition is to recognize television as a means of bringing cultures together and enhancing their respective knowledge. Karylle happily shares with us some photos of her Monaco experience. Indulge!

Cesca Litton Explores Japan

In an exclusive interview with FilJap Magazine, the beautiful and smart TV host and sportscaster Cesca Litton happily talks about her recent trip to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ – how fascinated she was with the culture, the weather, the food and the people; what she admired most about the Japanese people and whose statue she hugged!

FJM: How do you find Japan and its people? Cesca: I loved it! I really enjoyed taking the trains, the weather was absolutely perfect, and I was so excited seeing people dressed up in Japanese fashion, it’s so eye catching and different from what you see in Manila. And the Japanese people are very polite and friendly to tourists. FJM: What are the popular tourist spots that you visited? Cesca: Harajuku, Shibuya, Omotesando and US Naval Base FJM: Of all those places, what do you like the most and why? Cesca: Harajuku, because of the wild array of people dressed up in all these different outfits, and Shibuya, because of the huge intersection with all the neon lights. Plus that’s where the statue of Hachiko is. FJM: What is your most unforgettable experience in Japan? Cesca: Sitting down in the middle of the train tracks in the middle of the night. (Okay so maybe I wasn’t really allowed to do that.) Sitting in the middle of an empty train. (Because the whole time I was there, every train I rode was packed with people except for that one car.) I also met the Black Widow, Jeannette Lee at the US Navy base, she did an exhibition there. And I hugged Hachiko’s statue. I am a huge dog lover. Hachiko’s story made me cry; as I’m

sure it made a lot of you cry as well. FJM: Were you able to mingle with other Filipinos? Cesca: Yes, my boyfriend has relatives and family friends in Japan. They took such good care of us while we were there. FJM: What’s the best Japanese food that you’ve tried? Cesca: We ate at this restaurant called Maisen, and I kid you not, it was the best tonkatsu I’ve ever had in my life. I would go back to Japan just to eat there again. FJM: In that short trip, what values do you think the Filipinos should learn/adapt from the Japanese? Cesca: Discipline. I admire the Japanese for their discipline and organization, how clean everything was, and their determination to retain their honor. But we Filipinos already have these traits, we just need to hone them and remind each other of our strengths. FJM: Any message to your Filipino fans in Japan? Cesca: I will never forget what the wife of a pastor in a Filipino church in France told me, that you will never see a Filipino sleeping on foreign streets, because another Filipino has taken them in. I hope this love extends far beyond the reaches of Europe, and I know, without a doubt, that the Filipino community in Japan is just as amazing. I hope I get to meet you when I come back to Japan, because believe, me, I will be back. God bless you!

Avoid Heat Stroke

Summer na summer na sa Japan at tiyak na maraming mga aktibidad ang maaaring gawin tulad ng panonood ng fireworks display at pamamasyal sa ibaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t ibang tourist spots. Subalit isa sa mga dala ng panahon ng tag-init ay ang peligro na bunsod nito tulad ng tsansa na magkasakit ng heat stroke. Isa itong seryosong karamdaman na mas malala pa sa heat exhaustion at heat cramps kung hindi maaagapan kaagad.

Ano ang heat stroke? Ang heat stroke ay isang sakit na nakukuha dahil sa sobrang babad sa init na parang isang makina ang katawan na nag-overheat. Isa itong klase ng hyperthermia kung saan tumataas ang temperature ng isang tao ng higit sa 40.6 celsius na sanhi ng sobrang heat exposure at kakulangan ng thermoregulation. Hindi tulad ng lagnat na sanhi karaniwan ng infection at iba pang sakit, ang heat stroke ay bunsod ng mainit na panahon o matagal na oras na nasa direktang init ng araw at hindi hydrated ang katawan. Ayon kay Department of Health program manager for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases Lyndon Lee Suy, ang heat stroke ay isang seryosong sakit na katambal ng pagpasok ng summer. Mga sintomas Seryoso ang sakit na heat stroke dahil sa hindi nakakayanan ng mekanismo ng katawan ang pagsugpo ng heat stress tulad ng pagpapawis at ang pagkakaroon ng temperature control. Ilan sa mga sintomas ng sakit na ito ay ang: 1. Pagkakaroon ng mataas na

body temperature 2. Hindi pagpapawis kahit na sobrang mainit 3. Hot red o flushed dry skin 4. Mabilis na pagtibok ng puso 5. Hirap sa paghinga 6. Hallucinations, pagkalito, pagka-irita, pagkahilo at ang iba ay pwedeng mag-seizure, himatayin o ma-comatose Paano ito maiiwasan? Isa sa mga paraan para maiwasan ang heat stroke ay ang pagpapanatili na hydrated ang katawan. Kung may pisikal na aktibidad na gagawin ay dapat na siguraduhin umiinom ng tubig at iwasan ang kape, soda at iba pang caffeinated beverages. Kung matagal na sa sikat ng araw ay kakailanganin muli ng katawan ang electrolytes tulad ng sodium na nawala dahil sa pagpapawis. Magsuot din ng preskong mga damit at ibang panlaban sa init tulad ng payong at sombrero. Kapag nabiktima ng heat stroke ang isang tao, dalhin agad ito sa malilim na lugar. Ihiga ito at i-elevate ang dalawang paa. Tanggalin ang mga suot na damit at dampian ng yelo ang katawan partikular na sa kili-kili, kamay at bukung-buko.

Hinding-hindi mawawala sa malalaking okasyon ang lechon lalo na sa mga piyesta at handaan. Ito ay iyong buong baboy na tinatadtad at isinasawsaw sa suka. Pinag-aagawan madalas ang napakalutong na balat nito at patok na patok sa lahat kahit na nakakahigh blood. 4. Dinuguan. Isa itong lutuing Pinoy na gamit ang karne ng baboy at dugo nito. Ginigisa at pinakukuluan sa suka at tubig, ang dinuguan ay paborito rin ipares sa puto. Sa umpisa ay parang hindi kaaya-aya na malaman na may dugo ito ng baboy ngunit hindi naman matatawaran ang lasa nito kapag kinain na. 5. Sisig. Paboritong pulutan ang sisig kapag nag-iinuman na gawa sa tinadtad na ulo ng baboy at sibuyas at pinapatakan ng toyo, kalamansi at sili. Nanggaling sa Pampanga na tinawag na “Sisig Capital of the Philippines,” matapos na igawad kay Lucia Cunanan ng Angeles City ang pag-imbento rito. Dinarayo ang kanyang tindahan na “Aling Lucing’s” dahil sa masarap at orihinal na sisig recipe nito. 6. Kare-Kare. Hindi mawawala sa mga handaan ang kare-kare na hindi maaaring ihain ng walang bagoong. Ito ay luto sa peanut sauce, ground toasted rice, katas ng atsuwete, mga gulay gaya ng puso ng saging, petsay, string beans at talong at karne na maaaring pata o tuwalya ng baboy. 7. Laing. Nagmula sa Bicol region, ang laing ay gawa naman sa dahon ng gabi na niluto sa gata ng niyog at hinaluan ng maliliit na piraso ng karne ng baboy. Dahil lutong Bikol, ito ay maanghang na lalong nagpapasarap sa putaheng ito. 8. Tapa. Ang tapa ay karne ng baka na binabad sa marinade at piniprito. Masarap ito kainin kasama ang sinangag at itlog. Dito nauso ang salitang tapsilog na ang ibig sabihin ay tapa, sinangag at itlog kaya kahit saan sulok ng Pilipinas ka yata pumunta ay mayroong mga tapsihan. 9. Bulalo. Ito ang nilagang laman at buto-buto ng baka na paborito rin ng marami lalo na kung taglamig dahil sa sobrang sarap ng sabaw nito kung saan mananamnam ang katas ng baka. Dahil dito, maraming mga kilalang bulaluhan sa bansa, ang isa ay dinarayo pa ng marami sa Tagaytay. 10. Lumpia. May iba’t ibang klase ng lumpia sa bansa: lumpiang Shanghai, lumpiang sariwa, lumpiang hubad, at lumpiang toge. Liban sa lumpiang hubad, lahat ng ito ay nakabalot sa lumpia wrapper at kadalasan ay piniprito. Ang lumpiang Shanghai ay gawa sa giniling na baboy, gulay sa lumpiang sariwa at lumpiang hubad, toge sa lumpiang toge. Isa rin ito sa mga ulam na hindi nawawala sa hapag-kainan kapag may handaan. Isa sa pinakamalaking fireworks festival ay ang Sumida River Fireworks sa Tokyo kung saan 21,500 fireworks ang makikita. Bukod dito, nakaaliw din na makita ang marami na nakasuot ng “yukata” habang punung-puno ng mga pagkain ang kalsada.
