A home for vintage snowmobiles By Jade Sexton
jsexton@fillmorecountyjournal.com
The whole collection started out with an innocent purchase of a 1973 Ski-doo snowmobile with two seats side-by-side. It was unique, and a lot of fun. Since then, Eric Scheevel of Preston and his brother-in-law Troy Hahn have purchased more than 80 vintage snowmobiles, worked on them, fixed them up, and had fun on them in the snow. According to Scheevel, a snowmobile must be at least 25 years old to be considered vintage, and those are the kind he collects. “They don’t make those anymore,” he said. “They’re
unique.” Scheevel said back in the “hay-day” of snowmobiling in the ‘70s, there were a lot of companies that produced them. Today there are only a few. Of the 80 snowmobiles they own, Scheevel said there are currently about 20 that run. They spend their spare time in a large shed on Scheevel’s farm working on them and riding them as often as they can. The two have no special training in mechanics, and they do this purely out of the enjoyment of it. They make no money by selling the snowmobiles, but they do it anyway, always seeking out more of them to work on.
After others learned of this hobby, Scheevel received many phone calls from people with old snowmobiles wanting to sell theirs to him. Some of them even gave away an old sled that was no longer running or had been sitting around for a long time. “We are always looking for more,” said Scheevel. Most of the snowmobiles in the collection are from the late 1960s and the 1970s. These older ones are not able to go as fast as the new models, and they do not have many of the luxuries available now, such as See SNOWMOBILES Page 9

Journal Writing Project
He can make anyone feel like a kid again! I absolutely adore watching my dad play with him and take him for walks; it’s like he is a little boy again. My dad turns into such a softie when he is with Gunnar, too. David isn’t such a tough guy after all! After over a year of being dog-less, it was the perfect timing for us to have another dog. I think many people take their pets for granted, but it’s true! Dogs fill that little spot in your heart that nothing else can! Studies have shown that just
petting or playing with a dog can help with a person cope with depression, stress, and loneliness. Gunnar is truly a blessing to our family over this holiday season, and hopefully a blessing that we will have for years to come! Dogs are a man’s best friend. Kirsten Ruen is a senior at
Lanesboro High School. She is one of 8 area students participating in the Journal Writing Project, now in its fourteenth year.
CHILL FEST
A man’s best friend
By Kirsten Ruen You know how people say that a dog is a man’s best friend? Well, I think that statement is completely true. Over Christmas break my family and I had the great gift of a new dog to add to the Ruen Kirsten Ruen clan. Since we got the dog over break, it allowed me time to spend hours with my new puppy, get-
ting to know him. Gunnar, an eight-month-old, red and white Siberian Husky became a part of our family on December 26th. I’ve learned so much about him and the ways of a puppy within the short week that we have already had him. He loves to sprint down the gravel roads, play tug-ofwar, be scratched behind the head, and roll in the snow. Gunnar is how I imagine what having a little brother would be like, in some respect! But, one thing I have really noticed is Gunnar’s effect on people.

C ommentary Gun free zones? By Stan Gudmundson Natural rights are basic rights that government cannot rightly take away from us. One of the most fundamental rights we have as citizens is the freedom to protect ourselves from being physically harmed by someone else. It is a natural right that all of us as indiCol. Stan viduals have. Gudmundson Most natural rights are enumerated in our Constitution’s Bill of Rights. These include, as most know, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and so on. One amendment speaks to the right to bear arms. Much is made of the way the constitution’s second amendment is written. But that is not really the issue. The real issue is that our right to protect ourselves is a fundamental right irrespective of what the constitution says, and irrespective of what any laws or judicial decisions have been made pertaining to the right to protect
ourselves. As we have organized our society, we have decided that individuals will no longer have the option of enforcing justice as each of us sees fit. We turn that over to one of the legitimate functions of government. That is why we have laws, law enforcement agencies, courts, prisons, and all of the rest. In large measure we also turn the functions of protection over to government. There is however, one thing that law enforcement cannot do for us. That is, it cannot always and everywhere protect each of us all of the time. And we cannot expect it to. Certainly our laws and law enforcement agencies and personnel do prevent some crimes. However, much of the work they do in protecting our people and property has to do with solving crimes already committed. Therefore we as individuals have not given up the right to self protection. It is fundamental and basic. The idea that government can solve the unsolvable problem of ensuring each of us is always pro-
One Moment, Please... In the name of progress By Jason Sethre Publisher Fillmore County Journal & Olmsted County Journal Cell: 507-251-5297 jason@fillmorecountyjournal.com During the month of January, our team at the Journal will be focused on starting the year out with a bang. in each community in Fillmore County? Every community has a story. While we go about our days, people are investing their energy, time, and resources into making your community a better place to live. And, we want to capture those moments in the January 28th issue of the Fillmore County Journal. What has now become an annual tradition of sharing the courage and successes of others,
tected by taking away guns is a ridiculous fantasy. Moreover, the idea that confiscation of guns can reduce crime cannot be supported by any empirical evidence anywhere in the world. There are some human beings whose characters are deeply flawed. We will never, ever solve that problem. On the day of terrible killings in Connecticut, the Drudge Report had a report about a man in China who slashed more than 20 children. This is far from the first time that an incident like this has occurred there. These kinds of things happen everywhere in the world as mass murders in China, England, Norway, and Germany, for example, reveal. By the way, the incident that killed the most school children in the United States occurred early in the 20th century. They were killed with dynamite. What troubles me most is the arrogant belief of the elites that we cannot be trusted. Those who do not trust our country’s people constantly take advantage of any tragedy to try take away our means of self defense. They think it is up to them to make worse what cannot be
fixed. I also find it really rich listening to folks who live in places where they are not nor will they ever be in any danger of physical harm. Moreover, they will never experience the fear and terror of being assaulted. But they think they can tell others who live in dangerous environments that they we wish to make it even more dangerous for them by taking away their ability to protect themselves. I briefly lived for a time in the worst part of Minneapolis. There is nothing so terrifying as being awaken by someone who has broken into your apartment. Other than my fists, I was totally defenseless and scared to death. Fortunately I escaped harm, but it left a deep impression. We do have an absolute prerogative to defend ourselves and our families. There is a common theme in the round of deadly mass killings in the United States. Most if not all of these murders occurred in “gun free zones.” A fat lot of good that stipulation did. Why the these evil monsters target children is impossible to imagine but certainly children are largely defenseless. And we place them in facili-
ties where there are no other defenses. In the case of schools, every single school board in the country ought to authorize its teachers and staff to carry concealed weapons whenever and wherever they are on school grounds. If lovely little loony tunes knows that someone will be shooting back at him within seconds of an assault on a school, he will likely not pursue his macabre fantasy. That’s not what will happen of course. The left will try to get the rest of us to place the blame where it doesn’t belong and try to solve the problem by attempting to eliminate a fundamental natural right. That is the right to protect ourselves. With what is effective, and what is effective is guns. Handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Their effectiveness is due to the threat of or circumstance where a projectile is forced out of a tube at a high enough velocity to make a mess of flesh and bone. And it doesn’t matter one way or another if an overwrought liberal thinks a gun looks funny.
started four years ago in 2010, our annual Community Progress Edition is considered something equivalent to the “State of the Union” for Fillmore County. We have a lot of movers and shakers in this area, and our Journal reporters do their best to keep up with all the news and happenings in our region. When we first started this special section to kick-off the new year, I felt that it was important to recognize forward-thinking efforts to make each community a better place to live, work and raise a family. After all, we constantly hear about how the world is crashing down upon us every day
from “Chicken Little” -- a.k.a. the national media. The national media feasts on generalizations and sensationalism. We focus on what makes our local economy tick, and specifically the people behind those initiatives. What’s always interesting to me is how some business that starts in somebody’s garage can grow
into an international company employing 70 local people. With that said, stay tuned, we have some good news to share.

C ommentary Minnesota traffic deaths up in 2012 ST. PAUL — For the first time in five years, the number of traffic deaths increased in Minnesota as 378 people were killed in 2012, according to preliminary reports from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety. In 2011, 368 people died in crashes on Minnesota roads. • View county-specific 2012 preliminary traffic deaths and 2011 final death numbers. DPS projects the final total — available in early summer as additional crash reports are submitted — to be around 390, 6 percent above the 2011 figure. Despite the increase, 2012 will be the second safest year (behind 2011) since 1944 (356 deaths). Officials expect common traffic safety issues will again be the primary contributing factors for the 2012 deaths: drunk driving, seat belt non-use, speeding and distracted driving. Traffic safety officials say a warmer winter to start the year — leading to faster, unsafe speeds — and a spike in motorcyclist fatalities were the main factors for the increase in deaths. An early spring led to a longer and deadlier riding season as 53 motorcyclists were killed, a 26 percent increase from 42 deaths in 2011. “We can’t forget the victims lost in these crashes, they are the reasons and reminders we all need to commit to safe driving behaviors in 2013,” says Donna Berger, DPS Office of Traffic Safety director. In the last decade, the state’s annual traffic deaths have trended downward: in 2002 there were
657 deaths; 2003 — 655; 2004 — 567; 2005 — 559; 2006 — 494; 2007 — 510; 2008 — 455; 2009 — 421; 2010 — 411; 2011 — 368. In 2011, Minnesota had among the lowest and safest death rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in the nation at 0.65. 2012 Preliminary Death Results The 378 deaths include: • 281 motorists — down from the final 283 in 2011. • 53 motorcyclists — up from 42 in 2011. • 38 pedestrians — even with the 38 in 2011. • Six bicyclists — up from five in 2011. The deadliest months in 2012 were September (48), August (42) and October (38). The safest months were April (19), January (20) and March (23). 2012 Preliminary DWI Results • 26,628 motorists were arrested for DWI (preliminary). There were 29,918 DWI arrests in 2011. The preliminary DWI arrest count will grow as alcohol-concentration data is finalized. Crash data regarding drunk driving deaths will be reported later this year. Each year,
drunk driving-related crashes account for more than one-third of the state’s total death count. In 2011, there were 111 drunk driving-related deaths. About the Minnesota Department Public Safety The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) comprises 11 divisions where 2,100 employees operate programs in the areas of law enforcement, crime victim assistance, traffic safety, alcohol and gambling, emergency communications, fire safety, pipeline safety, driver licensing, vehicle registration and emergency management. DPS activity is anchored by three core principles: education, enforcement and prevention. About the Office of Traffic Safety The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) designs, implements and coordinates federally funded traffic safety enforcement and education programs to improve driver behaviors and reduce the deaths and serious injuries that occur on Minnesota roads. OTS also administers state funds for the motorcycle safety program and for the child seats for needy families
program. OTS is an anchoring partner of the state’s Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) traffic safety initiative. A primary vision of the TZD program is to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota in which motorists support a goal of zero road fatalities by practicing and promoting safe and smart driving behavior. TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes — education, enforcement, engineering and emergency trauma response. Office of Traffic Safety highlights • Preliminary DWI information indicates at least 300 people were arrested for DWI on New Year’s Eve. • DWI arrest results from a

heated handgrips. The fastest snowmobile Scheevel has can go about 50 miles per hour. But he loves them anyway. Scheevel said he will pay anywhere from $100-$400 for an old snowmobile, but there is a lot of cost associated with fixing them up and finding the parts for them. They use Craigslist a lot to find new ones to work on. All of their mechanical knowledge comes from hands-on learning, and years of taking them apart and fixing them up. Scheevel often takes his two daughters, Madison and Myleigh, out for rides. He has a sled that can be pulled behind the snowmobiles, and they can sit in there bundled up with a blanket and never get cold. The girls said they love going for rides. A person needs a license to drive a snowmobile, but these guys can get a Vintage Permit and ride it a certain number of times per year without a license. They ride a lot around the farm, and are thrilled at the most recent snowfall. “This is great,” Scheevel said of the snow. “But I want more!”

Fillmore County Sports By Paul Trende By the time people read this it will be 2013. For RushfordPeterson basketball fans and players, they’ll enter the New Year smiling. They ended the Old Year winning. Both did so at holiday tournaments. Todd’s Quick Hands… The girls played an annual four-team affair in Spring Grove. La Crescent was the first opponent. The Lancers entered as a non-powerhouse of the Hiawatha Valley conference (2-6 overall record). They didn’t enter as slouches though either, having lost four times by ten or less including a 69-67 defeat at the hands of HVL leader Kasson-Mantorville. Led by a pair of junior guards, 5’11” Katie Waller and 5’6” Jen Michalke, the competitive Lancers looked to be a good test for the ‘working’ and ‘progressing’ Trojans. It didn’t take long for the game to see a pivotal stretch. Midway thru the first half, R-P got back-to-back trifectas from Cody Manfull and Kendra Crawford, followed by seven straight points (4-4 FT’s) from Amy Todd. That equaled a 13-0 R-P run that broke a 6-all tie and put the Trojans in the lead. It was a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. R-P took a 34-20 advantage into halftime and led by as many as 21 (49-28) past the midway point of the second stanza. But like the NBA, where
everyone makes a run, the Lancers didn’t go down without a fight. Michalke (8 points) and Waller (4 points) did all the scoring in a 12-2 LC run that got the Lancers as close as eleven (51-40) with 5:00 to go. R-P quickly responded, getting a Sierra McNamer jumper and then back-to-back three-point plays from Mariah Mueller and Crawford. Add in another Crawford bucket and it spelled a 10-3 R-P run that extinguished the La Crescent comeback fire for good. The last 4-plus minutes took awhile, as the teams combined to score 35 points, many at the FT line. In the end, behind some good 2-point shooting (23-46, 50 percent), some good FT shooting (13-17, 76.5 percent), and a 1-3-1 full-court trap that caused the Lancers fits (26 turnovers and negated their size advantage), the Trojans downed La Crescent 71-52. R-P only trailed 3-0 and 3-2. Todd was a fit-causer. The 5’9” senior forward headed R-P’s trap. Her jumping ability and quick hands got her 7 steals, to go along with 18 points (8-8 FT’s) and 9 rebounds. Crawford was another Lancer menace. She led R-P with 19 points (8 for 13 FG’s) while also snaring 5 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists. McNamer (12 pts, 8 rebs) and Mueller (9 points, all in the 2nd half, 4 rebs, 3 assists) also played key roles for R-P. For La Crescent, it was the two-gal

show of Michalke (22 points) and Waller (19 points). …K-Craw’s Strong Will Two nights later, R-P took on Spring Grove. The last meeting between the two teams was a big one. It was for the Sub-Section 1A East title. The (state-bound) Lions took it to R-P 67-35. But without all-everything’s Richelle Mehus (playing at UW-Rivers Falls) and Taylor Elton (in attendance at the game), 2012’s holiday tournament contest begged much more competition and it delivered. In what could be a preview of 2013’s Sub-Section 1A East title game, both teams came out playing aggressively. The refs allowed them so do so, calling only a few fouls. The squads defensively slugged their way through the first half. Spring Grove dominated the offensive glass early (7 O-rebounds), but to little avail (one second chance point). Kendra Crawford took the ball to the basket early a trio of times giving R-P a small lead. The Lions got a couple key three-pointers from Randi Mehus (Richelle’s sister) and Elizabeth Johnson late to take another small edge, 22-19, into halftime. The teams again slugged away to start the 2nd stanza, as the defensive intensity (poor 3-point shooting) was most noteworthy. Six minutes in, SG clung to a 24-23 lead. Six minutes in, R-P leading scorer Amy Todd still had zero points. Things picked up from there. Todd scored. Samantha Bratland gave Spring Grove a boost
off the bench. R-P again got the game’s most pivotal run. Trailing 35-31 with 8:00 to play, the Trojans scored eight unanswered points (four by Crawford) to take a 39-35 lead heading into the stretch run. The Lions then made some hay at the FT line, but Todd found freshman Brooke Johnson for a bucket, giving R-P a 45-40 lead. From there, the Trojans sealed their fate at the charity stripe. R-P made 7 of 8 down the stretch. Todd (2-2) and Crawford (4-4) were each perfect. The Lions had no answer. They missed their last 12 field goal attempts. Their last made FG of the game came at about the 9:00 mark on an Addy Cross shot (one that gave SG the 35-31 lead). The final margin was much wider than how competitive the game actually was. R-P prevailed 52-41, with the 11-point lead being the largest of the contest. Trojan junior Kendra Crawford, like against La Crescent, was again fantastic. The 5’6” guard fearlessly took the ball to the basket, aggressively went coast-to-coast, each multiple times. She led all scorers with 16 points (6 of 11 shooting), grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and took three charges (impressive for a gal barely over 100 pounds and one that fought injuries a season ago). Crawford’s play helped annul Spring Grove’s concerted, and successful effort, to keep R-P leading scorer Amy Todd in check. Todd finished with a sea-
son low 6 points (2-12 shooting). Diminutive Keela Brand, who started in place of Cody Manfull (wedding), also picked up the slack. The 5’3” junior played much bigger (9 pts, 9 rebs, 4 stls) than her stature. Mariah Mueller offensively (11 pts) and Sierra McNamer on the glass (10 rebs, 4 pts) also aided the Trojan cause. Of that triad, only McNamer was out for basketball last season (for only half the season). For the Lions, Bratland was high scorer with 12 off the bench. Mehus (10 pts, 7 rebs) also reached double figures. The squads combined to go 3-28 from distance (R-P 0-11, SG 3-17). R-P’s 2-point shooting (21-44, 48 percent) and FT shooting (10-13, 77 percent) helped rule the night, as SG wasn’t so proficient (1241 on 2’s (29 percent), 8-14 on FT’s (57 percent)). The result puts each team’s record at 5-5 overall. R-P is 3-5 in the 3-Rivers. Spring Grove hasn’t lost in SEC action (5-0). With the Lions being the SEC’s (all single-A squads) preeminent team, and R-P being the best Class A team out of the 3-Rivers, they may see each other again in March. Boys Do Some Thumping Meanwhile, the R-P boy’s beat tap-tap-tapped on versus the same two squads. The Trojans made La Crescent (76-45) and Spring Grove (69-44) tap out. Versus the Lancers, R-P shot lights out, on 2-pointers (1522, 68.2 percent), three-pointers See SPORTS Page 12
year. The bright red bracts and green foliage can last well into the new year, and with a little time and lots of patience maybe you can get them through to next winter. The poinsettias like temperatures between 65-70 degrees with natural bright daylight. No excessive air drafts, cold or hot, and frost or freezing temps will kill them. Keep them moist but not sitting in water. They are susceptible to root-rot damage. They do benefit from a balanced all-purpose fertilizer at half strength at 6-8 weeks. This promotes new green growth. Repeat again in another 6-8 weeks. It will be a pretty green foliage plant. In April or early May you need to cut back the plant to about eight inches. The stubby stems should have new green growth coming again by the end of May. Keep it in a sunny spot to encourage green growth. Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with half strength balanced fertilizer. In mid June, repot your poinsettia using an organic rich soil mix. Water thoroughly. By the first of October, the plants will need to be kept in complete darkness 14 hours each night and 6 to 8 hours of bright sunlight with temps between 60-70 degrees. Con-
tinue this for 8 to 10 weeks. Any stray light from a street light will affect the budding and flower formation of your poinsettia. At this point, if everything has gone well, you should have
a budding, flowering poinsettia to again grace your holiday celebrations. Poinsettias are beautiful houseplants. They are not poisonous, but they are not intended for eating either.

(11-23, 47.8 percent), and from the FT line (13-16, 81.2 percent). It wasn’t one player in particular (an emerging trend this season for Tom Vix’s crew). Sophomores Alex Vix (16 points, 5-7 shooting) and Cole Kingsley (9 pts, 4-5 shooting), and juniors Jorli Hauge (14 pts, 9 rebs), Seth Thompson (8 pts, 7 stls, 5 assists), and Austin O’Hare (8 pts), the big five returnees from last season, all contributed efficiently and effectively to the effort. Two days later, Kingsley was a big Lion tamer. Cole led R-P with 15 points (7-11 shooting), 9 assists, and 6 steals. Hauge (12 pts) and senior Kyle Johnson (10 pts) each also reached doubled figures. The win over the Lions was R-P’s 5th straight. It also staked one early claim in Section 1A East supremacy. A year ago, the squads hooked up twice, both in tournament contests (holiday, post-season). R-P won both, the later for the 1A East title. The Trojans are 4-2, 6-2 on the season. Boys Basketball 12-27 •Mabel-Canton 51, Hope Lutheran 58 OT (M-C: Hunter Johnson 21; Noah Manning 7

A little of this, A little of that. By Kathy Little “Three or more of anything makes a collection” goes the saying. That means that I am a cookbook collector among other things. It started out innocently enough. At my wedding shower I received two cookbooks: The Betty Crocker Cookbook and The Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. Before the cooking sites on the internet and the food channel on TV, people really depended on cookbooks. Many of us still do because we read them like novels while enjoying the pictures. Call it virtual cooking.
At first these were my only reference for all things cooking; call them my cooking encyclopedias. Then I branched out and began collecting recipes from friends and family and clipping them out of newspapers and magazines. These I stored in metal file boxes on recipe cards. Eventually, I had six metal boxes and a few vintage wooden boxes. This gave me a sense of security - I owned these recipes. Then I purchased printed cards with my name and kitchen and food graphics on them.

When my mom, Margie Barrett Bjork, gave me my first church cookbook, I realized that I had a hobby. I bought church cookbooks at garage sales and flea markets. Other people gave me church cookbooks as gifts. This was fun. Some of the cookbooks had sponsors that were local businesses. Some were so old that the business sponsors’ telephone numbers were only four digits and the businesses were defunct. These were history books as well as cookbooks. I could read recipes submitted by former teachers, relatives, and mothers of friends. My cousin, Eileen Tienter Linden, actually complied family recipes for a Schwartz Family Cookbook. True, some of these recipes required prior cooking experience since directions such as “put in pan and bake until done” left out specifics such as pan size, time and temperature. Perhaps they should have included phone numbers as well.

Soon an entire shelf in my generous pantry was filled with cookbooks and metal file boxes. Some flowed into file folders, too. However I still had two shelves for food stuffs. I wanted more cookbooks. So I sought out more garage sales where the product was plentiful and the prices cheap. My best score was in LaCresent where I purchased twenty church cookbooks for 10 cents each. Only $2.00 for an entire box. I expected my husband to be so impressed by my frugal ways. Instead he started mumbling words like obsession and hoarding under his breath. Silly man, he even made me watch some reality show about “hoarders.” Instead
of feeling shame, I felt pride. My stuff was so much better and so much better arranged. I patiently explained that the woman in LaCrescent still had 300 cookbooks in her house. He said he hoped that I had forgotten her address. Still he likes to eat, so he dropped the subject for the time being. These muffins will remind you of fall and you don’t have to peel apples. The apple pie filling keeps these muffins moist so even if you always use fresh apples, please give these a try.

Will grid soil sampling work for 2013 Winter Crops Day Jerrold Tesmer Southern Research & Outreach my livestock farm? Extension Educator Center; Dean Malvick, UM
Randy Pepin, Extension Educator Agriculture Production Systems, Livestock, Crops, Manure University of Minnesota Extension Grid Soil Sampling is rapidly becoming a widely accepted practice for use with precision placement of commercial fertilizers. What about the concept of using this technology for use in distributing manure? University of Minnesota Extension is holding a free workshop on using grid sampling for distributing manure at 1 pm on January 22 at the Good Times restaurant in Caledonia (118 Bissen Street) and at 10 am on January 23 at the Lewiston Community Center (75 Rice Street). With escalating prices of commercial fertilizer the opportunity of capitalizing on manure for its nutrient value is being recognized. Utilizing this valuable asset with the information grid soil sampling provides us allows us to maximize the economic value of manure. Focus-
ing manure applications in field areas where phosphorus and potassium are needed, and shifting excess manure to other fields, improves the value of manure as a fertilizer replacement, and reduces nutrients in runoff. Manure presents challenges with varying analysis, nutrient availability, and credits based on livestock species and method of application. Learn how to manage these variables, and with grid soil sampling, enhance the value of manure on your farm. Farmers are welcome, but not required, to bring their own grid soil and manure analysis along to the workshop. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the event to register. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Preregistration is requested, but not required. To register, or for additional information please contact Jake Overgaard of Winona County Extension via email (over0128@umn.edu) or call 507-457-6440.

LOST/FOUND
We have all heard of “Secret Santas” but imagine my surprise to have an “all holiday Secret Santa” such as Easter bunny, Firecracker, Thanksgiving turkey, etc. in 2012 with gift certificates from TJ’s. Thank you “2012” Secret Santa so much! Marlene Wisland t7- x ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the Bushman benefit. Thank you very much to all the volunteers and donations that went into making our benefit such a big success. A speedy recovery is hoped for us both and will be a lot easier because of all your help. The time hasn’t been easy for anyone involved and there is no way to express enough gratitutde felt towards everyone who has been there in our time of need. With hard work and perserverance this will be overcome and become a stepping stone in the path of life. One day the favor will be returned. Because without all of your help, volunteers, and donations, this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you all very much! Sincerely, Jerico Bushman t7- x ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE FAMILIES of Ramona Swenson wish to thank everyone for the cards, memorials, plants, flowers, kind words, and memories. Special thanks to Pastor Maureen Hagen for a wonderful service, the woman’s group for providing lunch, Doc Lyons for his solos, Sharilyn Thoreson for her accompaniment, Arlynn and Wanda Hovey and Hindt-Hudek Funderal Home for the arrangements, direction, and service. It was like coming home for all of us. Laura (Dave) Lynch Deb Swenson Kari (Steve) Schroeder Mark (Jean) Swenson and families t7- o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
