There are a number of delightful discoveries waiting for you in our community. We pride ourselves on maintaining a small town atmosphere, but are also known as “The Biggest Little Town in Southern Minnesota. Harmony is a beautiful place to live or visit and we invite you to explore all that our town has to offer. Visitors to our community will enjoy exploring Niagara Cave and the Amish countryside, as well as shopping an assortment of gift, antique, craft, furniture and other unique shops in our area. Residents and visitors alike enjoy fine restaurants and recreational biking on 60 miles of paved trail. Those who live and work here appreciate the excellent school system and local access to all of the amenities we like to have close to home: grocery store, clinic, pharmacy, hardware store, movie theatre, repair services, veterinary clinic, dog boarding, and other essential services for convenient daily living. Visitors are encouraged to stop in the Harmony Visitor Center and talk with one of our friendly volunteers. We are here to help you make the most of your time in Harmony, and make sure that you don’t miss a thing! We invite you to experience a little Harmony in your life- you may even discover a new place to call home! Sincerely,

Play Visit our Amish Settlement The Harmony Area is home to Minnesota’s largest Amish settlement. Over 100 Old Order Amish families live in the countryside near Harmony.
Niagara Cave
“Old Order” indicates that they are very private people, and use only limited technology in their homes and businesses. The Amish of Harmony began their move to this area in 1974 and have grown to over 1,000 people with ten church “districts” and ten one-room schools. Another Old Order Amish group has recently begun settling in nearby Granger, Minnesota. The Amish primarily make their living through farming, construction, and by making and selling crafts.
1-877-886-2469
Baskets, furniture, jams, rugs, quilts, baked goods, and cashew crunch are among the items available for sale in local businesses and at farmers markets, Amish homes and roadside stands. Visitors to the Harmony area can visit Amish farms and merchants by booking a tour through Amish Tours of Harmony, located in the Sugar Plum House. The tour company offers comfortable van tours, guided tours in your own vehicle, or can provide a guide for your bus group. Another tour option would be to rent a CD tour of the Amish countryside. The Amish Back Roads Tour is available from the Village Depot or the Amish Connection on Main Street.

Play Cave Exploration Harmony is located in such a unique corner of Minnesota. One of the most interesting things about our area is what lies below the ground! Just south of Harmony, Niagara Cave is one of the most fascinating and distinctive geological attractions in the United States. It is consistently rated one of the top ten caves in the U.S.! Visitors to Niagara Cave will be taken on a one-hour guided tour, where they will witness an underground stream, a 60 foot underground waterfall, stalactites, stalagmites, calcite flowstone, and several fossils which have been dated to over 400 million years old. Niagara Cave is 48 degrees year round, so wear a jacket, and don’t forget to pack your sneakers!

P L A Y Wood Carving
Play
Woodcarving Art has a significant presence in Harmony with large pieces displayed throughout our town. These woodcarvings are the work of artist Stanley “Slim” Maroushek of Harmony. Slim’s vision was to create a walking Art Tour in downtown Harmony to encourage visitors & residents to enjoy a walk around downtown, view local art and visit our downtown businesses. The statues can be found displayed in our downtown and on the bike trail .
Harmony is home to the largest privately owned wood carving museum in the United States. Slim’s Woodshed features over 4,000 hand carved pieces from all over the world. Other large pieces can be found in Harmony, including a life-size Nativity scene on display during the Christmas season, which was commissioned by local residents.
Musicians of Harmony Currently four carved musicians are completed and displayed in downtown Harmony. The Musicians of Harmony series speaks to the diverse heritage of Harmony through Folk Art style pieces.

The Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail starts right behind Harmony’s Visitor Center. It connects Harmony to the Root River Trail system with over 60 miles of recreational trail! This DNR maintained trail allows biking, walking, cross country skiing, hiking and roller blading.

The trail travels through lovely countryside and amongst the wildlife, passing through a variety of wooded areas, pastoral farm sites, rolling hills and near spring-fed Camp Creek. The trail head features a lifesized wood-carved hobo camp, picnic shelter, playground, parking lot and Visitor Center.
River Activities Although Harmony does not have a river running through it, the Root and Upper Iowa rivers are close by! Both rivers have nearby starting points for canoeing, kayaking and tubing. The Root River offers many activities, including some of the best trout fishing in the United States.

P L A Y Fishing & Wildlife
Play
Only a few miles from Harmony are some of the finest trout streams in the state. The Root River winds it’s way through the area, offering ample fishing opportunities for all. Three fishing platforms provide access to trout fishing in Camp Creek just outside of nearby Preston. Many types of trout are found and stocked in the streams close to Preston such as Brown Trout, Wild Brook Trout, Brookies, Rainbow Trout, Small Mouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Rock Bass, Sunfish, Crappies and Rough Fish. Fishing licenses can be purchased in Preston.
12
As well as fishing, there are over 40 species of birds that are common in this area including Blue Herons, Egrets, Wood Ducks, Red-tailed Hawks, Osprey, Turkey Vultures and Bald Eagles. Harmony and the Fillmore County area are a hunter’s dream! Our wooded hilly areas, streams and creeks are teeming with wildlife. Hunters and photographers will find white-tail deer, wild turkey, pheasants, partridge, grouse, gray fox, red fox, coyotes, raccoons, woodchucks, squirrels, weasels, badgers, beavers and rabbits in the area.

Harmony offers entertainment for the whole family! Kids have a choice of three different playgrounds to enjoy. Selvig Park is located on Harmony’s Main Street and boasts new playground equipment installed in 2013. The Trailhead Park offers a newer playground, a picnic area, lifesized ‘Hobo Camp’ statues, and is located right on the HarmonyPreston Valley Trail.
Niagara Cave
Harmony offers a 9-hole disc golf course open for all to enjoy! Located at the Harmony Trailhead, the disc golf course is free to play. If you didn’t bring your discs, the Harmony Visitor Center will loan you some for a small donation. Fancy a game of mini-golf? New in 2013, Niagara Cave offers an 18-hole mini-golf course. The gemstone and fossil mining is another popular Niagara Cave activity.
Our third playground is right next to the golf course. Parents can enjoy a round of golf at the 9-hole Harmony Golf Course while the kids play nearby!
If that’s not enough to do, visit Historic Forestville and see the interpretive village, or visit the Preston Swimming Pool with the kids.
