The year is coming to an end - and we are doing it on a power-packed note with none other than the man, the superstar, the global brand, the name that spells Power – Ranveer Singh – as the Cover Star of our December Power issue. The actor par excellence and the Ultimate Showman of Bollywood is power personified!

And Dubai got a taste of this as the superstar took to the stage at one of the biggest star-studded Bollywood entertainment events the city has witnessed – the Danube Properties Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night 2022 Powered by Milano. Stunning crowds with his energetic performances, he had them all enthralled and screaming for more as he set the stage ablaze! The camaraderie between Ayushmann Khurrana, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer was unmissable, as was their excitement on seeing the Hero No 1 Govinda take to centrestage. Another highlight was the senior star have the Gen Now dancing off stage to his hit dance numbers. The chemistry and affection shared between Ranveer and Govinda made for magical moments that would stay etched in memories forever.

Ranveer Singh aka RS rocked Dubai that night, but I would also like to thank another RS without whom none of this would have been possible - the force behind this epic spectacle - Mr Rizwan Sajan. Bringing this extravagant event of such a gigantic magnitude to life, he ensured that it was not only a celebration of the best in cinema, but it was also a celebration with the best in the industry!

It is almost impossible to encompass in a few words here - the grandeur of the evening, the glitz and the glam of the biggest stars descending on your red carpet, the mesmerizing and sizzling moments on stage, the electrifying ones off it and the scintillating performances. So many moments that would be etched in our hearts forever, so many thank-yous to be said… So we take the support of the adage ‘A picture speaks a thousand words’, and leave you to flip through the pages ahead and get your fill of this extravagant and star-studded night.

Talking about the event’s success would not be complete without mentioning the people who helped achieve it. A big thank you to Mr Madhusudhan Rao for helping us overcome all obstacles along the way and Dr Sana Sajan, Mr Anis Sajan, Mr Adel Sajan, Azhar Sajan for the constant support. A huge shout-out to my FFME Team that proved its mettle yet again – Mayur, who held it strong even in the most challenging times, Hanan, Amit, Anushree, Aadharika, Ali, Apurva and all the volunteers who stepped in and worked relentlessly. GOT OVERFILLED? NOW WHAT?

We are lucky to live in a time of dermalfiller injections, but when botched, you are swarmed with images of scarily-altered faces of celebrities who barely look like themselves.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

1. HAVE PATIENCE

When you’re in the midst of super-swollen lips, “patience” is the best advice.

Take a few deep breaths, and remind yourself that swelling does not always occur evenly, and until all swelling dissipates it is impossible for you to evaluate your results. If the swelling is super problematic for you, taking an OTC anti-inflammatory can help, and icing the area may provide relief. Everyone heals differently, but your body can need up to 2-weeks to fully integrate the injected product. If not, opt for:

The product will remain malleable for a month after it has been injected. The younger the patient, the stronger the facial muscles and the product might migrate. Sometimes these muscles can pull the filler into areas other than where it was injected. Don’t worry though, unruly product usually can be massaged into obedience.

The Most Powerful Brand in India Ranveer Singh!

Ihave interacted with Ranveer Singh often in my capacity as a journalist back home in India and as a film critic have seen his performances hold him in good stead at the Box Office. But interestingly, I have in the past few months seen and learnt more about the actor than I had in over the years including seeing his meteoric rise to super-stardom he now commands. Each time, I have come away respecting him a bit more, not just as a versatile actor – he commanded respect as one very early on with the sincerity and talent he brought to the table – but the respect he now earned was also for the person he is when not being the quintessential hero! A few months ago I saw him host and perform at the Filmfare Awards in India where he brought his A-game to the play, then I met him in Abu Dhabi where he won hearts at a Fam-Jam event he attended as the brand ambassador of Yas Island. In yet another event held there back-to-back, I saw him dance his heart out with his fans leaving them with priceless memories they would cherish forever. More recently, I saw him rehearse for our own – Danube Properties Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night - here in Dubai and saw what a perfectionist he is. He was relentless in his pursuit for knocking off a flawless act that did indeed turn out to be the epic grand finale and has since gone on to become a benchmark in LIVE performances. He is in every true sense of the word –The Ultimate Bollywood Showman. But the power of Ranveer Singh extends beyond… It lies in the fact that he’s as much a man of the masses as he is a superstar. He is Baba as much as he is the Global power brand. I caught up with the actor while he was headed to yet another event in Delhi and in a candid chat, the actor par excellence spoke about his wife - the superstar Deepika Padukone, about his roles, being Baba and of course being the Power Brand - Ranveer Singh. Excerpts from a candid conversation:

What does power mean to you?

Power is… wow that’s a very large existential question. Philosophical in nature. Power means… It’s close to the concept of self-actualization. Power is an energy that you possess that gets actualized when you can transmit that energy onto others.

Brilliant. Because it completely defines the person that you are. You have defined not just power; you have defined what Ranveer Singh also is…

Yeah, I mean, I feel like I’ve been given a gift and that I should do something positive with it.

You are a global power brand. So, what would you say Ranveer Singh stands for globally?

I don’t know man! I don’t know if I want to identify as a brand. I don’t want to choose to be a commodity. But yes, what will be the appeal of me as a person, as an artiste - I’m somebody who very deeply believes that it is my purpose to spread goodness, positivity, happiness, cheer, and joy. I say this several times, I believe that in the chronology of severity we are going through a very difficult time, probably the worst. I believe in the concept of Kalyug and we are in the most-darkest part of the Kalyug. So given that, we have seen time in which it’s worse than ever been before. So, it is very agonizing to struggle. So, in that, we know that this life is a journey and along that journey we need to seek out some joy. I believe my calling is to lighten the burden of existence by being an entertainer. And that’s my entire purpose.

Do you think that is what also makes you so relatable to everyone at the same time you bring in your uniqueness to the table?

Yeah, the thing is that the way I’m wired is that I’m very much a people’s person. I’m like an open book, you know. I open myself up to people. I approach every human engagement with a very open heart. So, people recognize that vibration, people recognize that energy. Whether it’s through the characters, whether it is through my persona that’s off screen. And most significantly through interpersonal interaction.

There is something electric about Ranveer Singh… It’s the unbridled energy that he emanates, an aura he exudes, so much so, that you can feel a power surge through a room seconds before he actually enters it. That’s the magic of his super-stardom, but also much more. There is an order to his chaotic energy, a method to what seems like his madness… That madness… one discovers as I did… is just his fierce passion and intense love for what he does. Endearingly he is Baba, for Bollywood he is the Ultimate Showman and globally he is The Most Powerful Brand in India. Here’s presenting the powerhouse performer Ranveer Singh up, close and personal like never before.

When somebody needs me, I think human to human, they immediately recognize that. The human recognizes the openness and goodness in my heart, and I recognize the openness and goodness in theirs. That’s why I’m able to very freely exchange good vibes and positive energy with people. And when they see my performances, if I have to be analytical about it, I think it is the fact that they find there to be honesty and sincerity in the emotions which is why they’re able to connect to my characters. And people are people. They look upon me as their own and

this is another one great blessing of the Almighty that I truly appreciate. They have that endurance for me which is rare for any artiste. You know when they give you a name, when they give you a pet name…

Baba…

Yes that’s when you know… you know when I go out and people are calling me by this pet name that they have only given me. I think it started in 2013-14, it’s been almost 10 years. I recognize that the reason they address me as Baba is because they see me as their own. They have accepted me in their heart. They can

relate, they have a sense of ownership. And I find that to be a very special aspect of what I do and I don’t lose sight of the immense value of it. It’s one of the things in my life that I’m so grateful for because the fact that they always address me as Baba, I know that they have a special connection and I’m very grateful for that.

Yes, you are right now at the top of the game, the leading brand endorser, you are globally such a strong brand. But you have such a strong connect with your fans.

You are always spoken about for this endless and infectious energy that you have, what would you attribute it to. Where do you derive all of that from?

I’ve been asked this multiple times every single day of my life, whenever I’m engaging with people - where do you get such energy from. I can offer different explanations. I guess, one, I’m just genuinely a very energetic person. Two, I’m a very enthusiastic person. I guess one is the physical energy, my constitution is kind of different. I just have a lot more energy than a normal person. Two is that I’m very zealous about what I do, I’m very enthusiastic about life in general. Wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, I’m in the moment. I’m actually there doing it to the maximum. If I’m there, I try and cultivate the way of being where I’m completely present. And whatever I do, I do it to the fullest. And that translates as doing things with a lot of energy. But it distills down to a general enthusiasm about life. That I think is the real explanation. I’m just happy to be alive and grateful for this life and just happy to be present in the moment.

You and Deepika are also one of the most powerful couples globally. How do you keep that power equation out of the relationship and on the home front?

We’ve been together 10 years now. And over a period of time we’ve nurtured our relationship and cultivated a connection between us, an understanding, really above and beyond dynamics such as power. There is such genuine love and a soul connection that kind of overrides anything and everything. I know that she’s got my back and I’ve got hers. And the commitment to one another is so deep that nothing else matters. And when there is power of love, that’s really the superpower.

How have you changed since your debut? We know the success and the fame but how would you say as an individual have you changed?

I’ve evolved a whole lot. There’s been a huge evolution at a personal level. I would say that I’ve evolved not just as a person but also as an artiste. I’ve learnt and I continue to learn so many things about the craft of acting. Over a period of time, I’ve been able to grow up and mature and be more responsible and I have developed clear perspectives, opinions, clear likes and dislikes. I feel in the past couple of years, rather ever since I got married, being in this beautiful partnership with Deepika where I get to learn so much as a person, I admire her immensely as a person, as an artiste and as a communal professional. It’s living with her every day that really spiked my growth as a person and I feel that ever since I’ve got married

I’ve really come into my own as a person.

What has she (Deepika) brought into your life that was missing earlier?

Stability, security and she has always encouraged me to make authentic choices in life. It’s also the most significant, most important and really the most beautiful thing about our relationship is that how we are able to keep each other grounded. That’s very important because when you are in the limelight, things can get very noisy and chaotic. There’s so much noise that surrounds you. One can very easily get affected. But we’re able to offer each other the grounding and centering. You know I think it has to do with the fact that we have had a similar journey, a similar background. We both came from outside, both made it on our own. We both love what we do. We are very, very hard-working. She came from a non-film background, from Bengaluru and I come from a non-film background from Mumbai. And our parents - my mom-dad, my sister, her parents - her mom-dad and sister; they also share a similar experience. In that somebody from a family goes onto achieving great heights of fame, it’s been a similar experience for both families as well. So we have that similarity and therefore that connection as well.

If you could give some advice to the younger you, what would it be?

I would say - don’t overthink. That’s the main thing. Don’t get yourself all worked up in being anxious about what the future has to hold. Try and be more present. That’s the best advice I could give to my younger self.

And from the varied filmography that you have done, which of those came easy to you? Any specific genres?

They all had the same level for me. You can see the glass as half empty or half full. Either you can consider them as all easy or none of them come easy. I would say none of them really come easy at all. Even in some of my forgettable films, my level of commitment is the same… whether it’s my biggest hit or my biggest flop. My level of commitment is the same every single day - more than a 100 per cent. For every moment that I’m engaged with the work, I do it with all my heart, and all sincerity. And that’s the greatest gift of all. The fact that I just get to live out the moments of truth between action and cut, that itself is the prize for me. That’s the most rewarding. And tomorrow if the film does well, it’s the bonus, like ‘sone pe suhaaga’. I’ve already got my reward that I get to do it. The process itself is the prize.

What’s the best thing about being a superstar?

I guess, it empowers you to… it’s like having a light that you’re able to illuminate others with. It’s like being able to cast a light upon others, to transmit good energy. For me it’s not about the amount of money I make or the number of awards I get or the number of hit films… the one thing that I’m grateful for the most and I appreciate the most is this power that I possess. That’s a God gift really. It’s like everyday manifestation of what I’m talking about. If somebody sees me, and immediately their face lights up with a smile. What a great blessing that is. They just look at you and their faces light up and they smile. It’s incredible. I find that to be a very special gift. A very special blessing.

We have seen that… fans approach Ranveer Singh - the superstar and walk away also becoming fans of Ranveer Singh - the person?

Yes, I have noticed a lot of fellow artistes, my peers, they are quite guarded. There’s nothing good or bad, right or wrong. It’s just different ways of being and my way of being is that I tend to give a lot of pieces of myself. And I feel like instead of draining me of my life force, the more I give, the more I get back. The more energy I transmit to others, I’ve always noticed that it multiplies and always circles back to me. It’s quite amazing!

From being an outsider to the film world to being a superstar today, what’s the headspace when you see yourself on the screen and you see the way the crowd reacts to your performance in every scene that you’re in?

It’s a great high. It’s one of the greatest highs that I’ve experienced. Being in a cinema hall, having people connect with your character, laughing, crying, clapping, hooting, cheering, feeling

something. That’s what got me into the craft of acting in the first place. What attracted me was that you are able to express yourself and through that expression you are able to connect with somebody and evoke an emotion out of them. And being in a hall and seeing live reactions of them watching me on screen is a very tangible manifestation of that. So it’s one of the most amazing feelings… Watching your own film with a packed audience, it’s incredible.

What are your plans going forward? In terms of entrepreneur, any plans of turning producer?

I’m looking forward to building a legacy, making a significant contribution to the arts, through my films, through my cinema, through my characters, through my performances. That’s really my main focus right now. I’m never

So my current focus is to push the envelope and see with the kind of wherewith all and tools that I have at my disposal, what can I do to push the envelope to create original cinematic experiences. That’s my focus. Through films, through emotions, through scenes, through roles, through performances, through characters, through visual spectacle through creative contribution in the filmmaking process. I really want to involve myself, far more immerse myself in the entire process of… if I can contribute into the filmmaking process to the creative process, as more than just a performer that would be very fulfilling. It’s come about naturally and I think from the initial stages of my career, I think it started with Vikramaditya Motwane and Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali and continued on with Zoya Akhtar and Rohit Shetty and most recently Karan Johar. They’ve always recognized that I have a lot more to contribute overall to the creative process. And they’ve been very encouraging, very inviting and that has helped me grow as an artiste. It’s given me confidence. So I’m really grateful to my directors for allowing me to be a true collaborator. It’s gone a long way in shaping me as a creator.

You are also a style icon! How would you describe your style?

I don’t overthink it. I’m not really as vain as one would imagine a person in my capacity as a film actor or a celebrity or whatever, you’d imagine them all to be quite vain. But I feel like comparatively or relatively I’m not that vain. I, a long time ago knocked the fear of judgement, so I feel like style is an expression, the way of doing things and I have my own way of doing things so my own style and my own expression. I pretty much dress for myself. My appearances are extensions of what I’m feeling. On some days I’m in the mood for vibrant colors, and sometimes I’m in mood for black and white. What I’m feeling inside is I kind of manifest externally. So, I would say people are free to judge as they please, I do whatever I feel like, I wear whatever I feel like… I do it to express myself

really. I would describe it as expressions and original.

You are quite passionate about cars… But do you even get to drive them in Mumbai?

I’ve always been a petrohead, a motorhead, I get it from my dad. He kind of, from a very young age familiarised me with cars and bikes, I kind of got attracted to automotive through him. You’re quite right. Mumbai is a mega city. It’s not a city where you can allow that machine to express itself. But I have a hack for it. I only drive after 11 o’clock in the night. When there’re less cars on the road. It’s much more enjoyable drive. So during the day it can get stressful to be behind the wheel… difficult because Mumbai is such a busy city but post 11, postmidnight then I really enjoy driving. I find it to be very therapeutic.

And finally… what are your upcoming movies? We have Cirkus coming up in December and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani in the first half of next year. I’m very excited about both of them. They are both first of all helmed by the finest filmmakers and I’m so privileged to be working with them. There’s Rohit Shetty – The King of Comedy and then the kind of film Rocky Aur Rani… is, Karan Johar pretty much invented that genre. So Cirkus is a madcap comedy. You know as an audience you know exactly what you’re getting into, you’re going to have fun, laugh your head off and for those two and half hours feel light, enjoy a clean family entertainer, again just the way Rocky and Rani is. With romance, lots of songs, colour, family dynamics, drama, emotions, just the kind of films that I would like to be a part of. You know a lot of things in the recent past have been angsty and quite dark and I want to be a part of films that the whole family can go to see together. They can all sit together and enjoy it as one, because I feel like what the pandemic did and what the lockdown did was get people away from each other. Not have any kind of shared experience, being in isolation for so long, so I would like people, to go enjoy these kinds of films together, where you will be entertained. That was my whole endeavour in the recent past to do films that would bring people together and entertain them as a whole.

Agraduate of Gemological Institute of America, Pavit Gujral is well-known in the high-jewellery industry for her eccentric and bold designs. However, what very few people know is, when any new design takes shape in Pavit’s studio, it absolutely must embody the brand’s Five Essential Elements. These five elements have been a part of Pavit’s design and vision since the beginning of her journey, and are actually derived from the CEO and Head Designer’s own life adventures. Pavit, along with being a multi-award winning designer, loves travel and is a certified Scuba diver. She takes inspiration from her travels and her time in nature to create breath-taking imitations of natural beauty in precious gems, diamonds and ancestral gemstones. “Each piece tells a story and is handcrafted with precision and utmost attention to detail, creating unique, trendsetting pieces of high jewellery,” says the young designer. While her jewellery pieces are nothing short of true art, it takes a keen eye to decode the stories behind the piece and to notice the essential elements on display in their jewellery form. Let’s take a look at some of the masterful pieces that are a true testimony to these five essential elements.

1Mixology of Colour spectrum

Setting stones in a jewellery piece is one skill, and playing with light and shades of stones to recreate a muse’s natural blend with light is a whole new level of expertise. This expertise is displayed in one of Pavit’s most talked about designs - The Crab Earrings - the muse behind which is undoubtedly, the humble Crab. If that hasn’t piqued your interest, the devil is in the details.

The team at Pavit Gujral Designs painstakingly recreated the shades and shadows of the crab’s shell by expertly setting over 800 pieces of Orange Sapphires, Pink Sapphires, Yellow Sapphires and Rubies to create a stunning ombre effect. What takes the cake is the Crab’s tiny arms displaying movement and balancing beautiful Tanzanite hearts with their jewel-studded claws!

Along with the attention to detail that her team is well-known for, the gemstones in her jewellery pieces also add to the exquisite nature of her designs. The Tsavorite garnet for example, is one such exotic gemstone that has a special place in Pavit’s designs. The Tsavorite garnet is actually one of the rarest garnets in the world, and is a beauty to behold.

The Tsavorite finds its place of pride in the Daisy collection which is handcrafted and pavé set, with 2,690 pieces of Tsavorite Garnets, Yellow Sapphires and Diamonds. A close look at this marvellous piece reveals the lush green leaf that is a part of this delicate necklace is where the elegant Tsavorite finds its home.

Inspired by Nature’s Bounty and Beauty

A significant number of pieces in the brand’s collection are reflections of the sights and scenes that are ever-present in nature. One of the pieces that capture the true essence of nature is the Squirrel ring. Like its name suggests, the ring is inspired by the high-spirited Squirrel, an animal that is notoriously known for its love for berries, nuts and fruits! Being one of Pavit’s most favourite spirit animals, the ring displays the exact same joyousness that a squirrel shows when you see it holding its prized possession - a berry, in its little arms right in the moment of relishing it! The squirrel ring is set in 18K gold, with a beautiful 17.94 Carat cushion pink Tourmaline and is flanked by Tsavorite drops and diamonds. Wonder Mom Awards 2022 powered by Danube celebrated motherhood and honored brands with a spectacular award night at The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC. Dubai celebrated Motherhood in a spectacular evening that paid a tribute to all the mothers through their ‘Wonder Mom Awards 2022’ night. The remarkable event was organized by Gulf Time Media LLC (GTM) and was powered by Danube. It was held in The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC, and was attended by more than 450 people belonging to diverse backgrounds from across the UAE. Hosted by Joe Mohan, the award night was one of its kind, as it empowered mothers from all walks of life. The eminent personalities who graced the event were Sheikh Majid Rashid Al Mualla (CEO Majestic Investments), Dr. Kabir (COO Majestic Investments), Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Khalifa Al Khalifa (Princess of Bahrain), H.E. Juma Madani, H.E. Munira Alblooshi, Kanika Kapoor (Bollywood Singing Sensation), Dipika Kakkar Ibrahim (Indian Actress), Ms. Shabnam Kassam (Director of Danube Welfare) and Ms. Sameera Sajan. The award night was a humble attempt by the Gulf Time Media LLC (GTM), to recognize the painstaking efforts taken by mothers in nurturing their tiny tots as well as bringing together various brands that have made parenting easy.
