International Master in Composition for Screen

In de afgelopen jaren gaven Film Fest Gent en de World Soundtrack Academy, samen onder andere Europese en Canadese hogere kunstacademies, gestalte aan de ontwikkeling van de International Master in Composition for Screen. Deze InMICS Masteropleiding is voor studenten die van muziekcompositie voor audiovisuele media hun beroep willen maken. Aan de hand van masterclasses, panel talks en workshops van het InMICS Composers Lab ontplooien de studenten onder toeziend en goedkeurend oog van internationale professionals, hun talenten en artistieke persoonlijkheid. Op die manier leren de InMICS-studenten tijdens een twee jaar durend traject vol praktijkervaring op verscheidene film-en muziekfestivals de kneepjes van het vak en worden ze klaargestoomd om als zelfstandige componisten de industrie in te trekken. In the past few years, Film Fest Ghent and the World Soundtrack Academy cooperated with six partner organizations, including European and Canadian higher art education institutions as well as professional organizations from the field, in setting up the International Master in Composition for Screen. This InMICS Master’s programme is dedicated to students wishing to work as composers for audiovisual media. Through a two-year trajectory of masterclasses, panel talks and workshops from the InMICS Composers Lab, advanced students are provided with the opportunity to hone their skills, share talents and develop their own personalities and projects under the guidance and supervision of international experts in the field.

Op Film Fest Gent gaan de InMICS-studenten in gesprek met professionals, pers en filmmuziekliefhebbers. Ze praten vrijuit over hun ervaringen tijdens hun studies, hun werk en hun toekomst in de sector. In het panel gaan ze dieper in op de creatieve output van het InMICS Composers Lab en de verhouding tussen het componeren en de audiovisuele kunsten.

At FFG the InMICS-students gather with professionals, press and film music fans for a discussion. They talk about their experiences while studying, their work and their future in the industry. In this panel talk they also delve into the relation between composing and the audiovisual arts.

InMICS Composers Lab Showcase

Het InMICS Composers Lab ging twee jaar geleden in oktober 2018 van start hier in Gent. Dit jaar wordt de cirkel gerond en studeert de eerste generatie InMICScomponisten af. Tijdens Film Fest Gent 2020 stellen ze vol trots hun werk voor tijdens de InMICS Showcase die plaatsvindt op zaterdagochtend in Kinepolis Gent. Een uitgelezen kans om de Desplats, Santaolalla’s en Umebayashi’s van morgen te ontdekken. Ondertussen staat al weer een nieuwe lichting klaar om de fakkel over te nemen tijdens hun allereerste Composers Lab.

The InMICS Composers Lab started two years ago in October 2018 here in Ghent. This year the circle will be completed as the first generation of InMICS composers will graduate at the 47 th edition of Film Fest Ghent. Here, they will proudly present their work in the ‘InMICS showcase’ that will take place on Saturday morning at Kinepolis Ghent. An excellent opportunity to discover the Desplats, Santaolallas and Umebayashis of tomorrow! In the meantime, a second batch of students is ready to take over the baton in their first ever Composers Lab at Film Fest Ghent.
