HISTORY
Mavis Enderby, though not yet known by that name, was on the map in 1086 recorded in the Domesday Book as a quite large rural settlement. The Historic Environment Record includes finds and surveys from prehistoric to medieval periods. Now a small hamlet surrounded by countryside, farmland, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there has been little change for over 200 years.
The Church of St Michael’s and All Angels is an ancient edifice holding a list of Rectors from the 13th century. The Rev. George Ward, Rector of the Parish 1869 - 1926, was responsible for the construction of this rectory in 1871. It was sold by The Lord Bishop of Lincoln in 1957 as a freehold property, to be known as Mavis Enderby House.
Location
The hamlet of Mavis Enderby is located less than three miles from Spilsby, with other historic market towns, Horncastle, Alford, and Louth nearby, excellent schools are in the area, and the medieval cathedral city of Lincoln is 30 miles away from which network rail commuting to London is available, as from Grantham and Newark. The beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only a few miles north and the Lincolnshire coast, with its miles of sandy beaches, is about 14 miles to the east.
As well as the Wolds and the coast, there is plenty to see and do in the area, for example, only a few minutes away is English Heritage’s Bolingbroke Castle, a ruined 13th-century castle and birthplace of Henry IV, with expansive grounds open to the public, whilst Snipe Dales is a nature reserve and country park with wonderful views of the Wolds, a lovely place to walk along marked trails through woods and meadows with further footpaths from the door and many fishing lakes nearby. A riding centre and a tennis club are close by. More attractions are within a 20 minute drive such as the National Trust’s Gunby Hall and Tattershall Castle, an award winning The Ark Wildlife and Dinosaur Park in Stickney, The Battle of Britain Memorial Museum in Conningsby, not to mention the very attractive little town of Woodhall Spa, an old Edwardian resort with 2 world renowned golf courses, being the home of England Golf.

There are several primary schools in the locality, all rated Good by Ofsted, the nearest being Spilsby Primary School less than 3 miles away (about 5 mins).
