Seller Insight

We were initially attracted to the countryside setting of the property, in a village we knew and liked,” say the owners of Willow Cottage. “We fell in love with the house itself as soon as we walked through the front door and knew right away we wanted to live here. The house is so full of character, with beams in the hallway providing a lovely welcome to the home. Going further in, the house is very spacious, ideal for everyday life and entertaining alike: the bar area with its large television and pool table is ideal for parties; the cinema room is perfect for watching sports on the big screen; the main lounge is beautifully appointed; and the breakfast room is such a cosy place to sit and eat or have a coffee. Everyone who comes here has the same reaction we had all those years ago: they walk in and simply say, Wow!”

Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property. “We have knocked through to create an open plan kitchen, living and dining space,” they say. “A brand new kitchen has been installed, complete with beautiful granite worktops, and two new bathrooms fitted. We also had a lovely, light-filled conservatory added to the house so as to make the most of the gardens all year round. Upstairs, a beautiful dressing room has been created for the master bedroom, with bespoke fitted wardrobes. Further, the house has been generally modernised with new insulation, triple glazing and heating system, to infuse this characterful 200-year-old house with all the comfort of contemporary living, whilst retaining the charm which first drew us to it.”

Outside, the extensive gardens serve as an extension of the house itself. “The garden is simply beautiful,” the owners say. “Divided into different zones, the grounds include a rear garden which is mostly laid to lawn and planted with shrubs and trees, as well as a lovely walled garden which is so private and a real suntrap. To the front of the house is another garden with a sweeping driveway, large enough to accommodate up to 20 cars when we host big gatherings. One such event was our son’s 30th birthday party, for which we had 120 guests with a marquee in the back garden, live music, and lawn games. We have a 66 x 22 foot bar which opens out onto the courtyard, which is amazing for parties. Conversely, when it is just the two of us here, electric gates and CCTV ensure total privacy and security, so that when we come up the driveway and the gates close behind us, we feel like we are in our own world! There is nothing like coming home to this place.”

The local area has much to recommend it too, offering the best of both countryside and convenience. “The house looks out over fields full of grazing sheep,” say the owners, “and we can walk for miles in any direction, right from our doorstep. It is so quiet here that we feel like we are in the middle of nowhere, yet we are only 10 minutes from supermarkets. The sought-after village of Withybrook is well-known for the local pub, The Pheasant, which serves excellent food and has a friendly atmosphere. The village is perfectly placed for Rugby, Coventry, Nuneaton and other nearby towns and centres, with the M69, M1, M6 and M40 motorways easily accessible for commuting to work. What’s more, our neighbours here are lovely – we shall miss them dearly!”
