FINE: Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background, and how did you get into the restaurant business? I am from Chicago and moved to Naples when I was 6 years old. My grandfather had restaurants in Chicago so our bloodlines are in the restaurant business. My Father came to Florida and moved to Naples and started working for a guy who worked for my Grandfather. After a few years, my Father started Mel’s Diner in 1989 with the first location in San Carlos. I was about 10 years old and from that point on, I was fully immersed in the family restaurant life! I was peeling potatoes, onions, and anything else my Father asked me to do in the restaurant. I was really learning the business from a young age. My family grew Mel’s Diner to Thirteen (13) locations. I remember there was a miniature golf course next to the first Mel’s restaurant and if I wanted to go play miniature golf, I had to peel an entire bag of onions – I remember the tears from those onions! My eyes were watering a lot! I learned the hard way about the restaurant business and ultimately developed the passion that I currently have for this industry. If you don’t have passion in this field, the business will just not work.
FINE: After opening and running a successful business like Mel’s Diner, what did you guys do next? After Mel’s Diner we opened Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page with the first location on Shirley Street. My Dad named it after me - I am Stevie! I was going to college on a soccer scholarship when we opened Stevie’s, and 2 years into school I was injured and could not play soccer anymore. I made the decision to come back to Naples and work hard core at Stevie’s and really grow the business. We ended up with two (2) Stevie Tomato’s locations and sold them both in 2006. After Stevie Tomato’s we opened Big Al’s sports bar and restaurant and we did very well with those. We ended up with three (3) Big Al’s locations here locally. I started to have a family and I was raising kids, and running 3 restaurants was just too much. I had late hours, three (3) stores, high overhead – it had grown to be too demanding and hectic. So, we sold Big Al’s in 2010 and I opened Mr. Big Fish. FINE: What was the motivation behind opening Mr. Big Fish? Seeing and being a part of Mel’s, Stevie Tomato’s, and Al’s was fantastic and added to my experience in the restaurant business. I admired the growth, but for me it was not the same as owning and

operating one single restaurant. I missed the eating experience I remember as a child, in which our home was practically a restaurant in itself, where family and friends came to feast together -- simply and comfortably. FINE: What made you open a fish/seafood type restaurant? I grew up fishing here as a kid and have been fishing for a long time. I love fish and all food in general. I wanted to have a restaurant with high quality upscale dining with a casual and laid back atmosphere. That’s what Mr. Big Fish is all about - A restaurant where people can relax and feel at home. Where food is familiar and comforting. Where our guests receive the freshest food with the freshest ingredients, all at a great value. Where patrons recognize the passion that goes into everything we do. Simple. Traditional. Fresh. FINE: Are there any specific entrees or items that are most popular here? First, we are popular for quality and people getting the best for less! A lot of people like the Haddock, the Grouper and the Scallops, our Chowder, and the quality of our fish - you can taste the difference! Believe it or not, I have a lot of people who ask for the
sautéed spinach! The fried shrimp is a popular item – I use only the best jumbo shrimp! There are a lot of popular items here! We also give kids their own treasure box with goodies inside. We are a true family restaurant with excellent high quality food and a laid back atmosphere. FINE: What made you select this current location in Park Shore? I wanted to be in this area. Park Shore is a hot area and close to many great attractions here in Naples and it continues to grow. I love this location and we are consistently busy here. I am extremely happy here! FINE: Is there anything that you would like to add for our readers? Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do to make your dining experience better.
