Upper is finished with beautiful honey color and embossed brogue. ackermanshoes.com | More info on page 9 SOME MEN GO THROUGH THEIR ENTIRE LIVES with only a few pairs of shoes. They are either unaware or apathetic to the fact that nothing they wear will look quite right. Other men, the stylish men, know the value of a well stocked shoe collection. To some, a pair of J.L. Rocha’s is just another set of expensive footwear. However, the stylish man will walk a little taller knowing that they are very special indeed. Every pair of J.L. Rocha’s are made by hand in Leon, a Mexican city positioned in the middle of the country within the colonial state of Guanajuato inhabited by master artists. These cobblers have inherited the special talents that have been handed down for generations. The hundred year old process remains unchanged. The brand is now available in the US Market thanks to the efforts and vision of Jose Luis Rocha, CEO of San Diego based J.L. Rocha Shoes; He personally over sees the process from design to final product traveling back and forth between Leon and San Diego frequently. These extraordinary shoes made from extraordinary animals are created using only calf skins. Smooth and shinny with a soft and durable finish, calf leather is the most versatile of leathers thanks to its strength and flexibility. A pair of calfskin shoes can last as long as 50 years.

The resort and golf course are home each year to the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational, along with other celebrity and charity tournaments. Willie Maples, the likable Director of Golf, makes sure each player is well taken care of whether a resort guest or a daily fee player. Maples comes from a legendary family background in golf. His father, Palmer Maples, worked for the famous Scottish pro, Donald Ross—the designer of Pinehurst in North Carolina and hundreds of courses in the United States. Maples Senior went on to design and develop many courses on the east coast as well. Maples has taken great pride in the course since its development in 2006 with designer Clive Clark. He is quick to point out that the design is not a typical flat desert type course but has contours of mounding and elevations throughout. And beautiful too, with two large waterfalls and five lakes. Maples wants his guests to come back again and again, and they usually do. Whether it’s just for the day or an extended stay of several, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino has it all.

until well combined, forming a ball. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in refrigerator for 30 minutes. 2. Add figs and apples to small bowl. With small brush, lightly coat fruit with orange marmalade. 3. Place pizza stone in conventional oven and preheat to 400 degrees.
Ingredients for Pastry • 2½ cups all-purpose flour • 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, cold, in chunks • 3 tablespoons brown sugar • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger • 1 large egg • ½ cup ice water Ingredients for Filling • 8 fresh figs, sliced • 3 apples, peeled and sliced • 1 (heaping) tbsp. orange marmalade Ingredients for Glaze • 1 large egg, beaten, for egg wash To serve (optional)

4. Sprinkle counter with flour and gently roll dough out into a 14-inch circle, about 1⁄4-inch thick, turning dough over and sprinkling flour on both sides so it doesn’t stick. Transfer dough to a lightly floured pizza paddle. 5. Layer fruit mixture (alternating fruit) onto dough, leaving a two-inch border all around. 6. Make slight fold at edge of crust, pinching dough to seal. 7. Lightly dab egg wash around border with your fingers. With a fork, make indentations around border. 8. Remove pizza stone from oven. Slide crostata off pizza paddle and onto pizza stone. Bake for 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown and fruit is bubbly. Slide pizza paddle under tart to remove it from the oven. Serve

Now at his spacious and comfortable La Jolla laser center, Dr. Motwani has once again brought one of the most sophisticated laser systems in the world to San Diego. This machine is extremely sophisticated and safe, tracking eyes for movement over a thousand times a second, taking only 1.4 seconds for each diopter of correction, and able to measure corneal thickness for safety during the Lasik procedure. The speed of the laser not only decreases treatment time, shortening the procedure and decreasing stress for the patient, but also increases accuracy and safety. Dr. Motwani has been performing Refractive Surgery in San Diego since 1999, and has performed some of the most complex cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and repair of prior refractive surgery. He has also done many thousands of surgeries to help reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses with his own carefully balanced algorithm. His resume includes LASIK performed on over a hundred physicians, many professional athletes, hundreds of law enforcement officers and fire fighters, and thousands of San Diegans who just want world class laser eye surgery.

Presentation is everything when you’re the most expensive whisky in the world.
F
ounded in 1824 in the heart of Speyside, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then it has built a reputation as one of the world’s
leading single malt whiskies. In collaboration with Lalique, an internationally recognized master of crystal, Macallan set a new world record for the most expensive bottle of whiskey ever sold at auction, an impressive $628,000. To celebrate the conception of “M” and its global launch in Hong Kong, four decanters were specially crafted by Lalique. These are the largest decanters ever made by the crystal company, each piece required the work of 17 craftsmen and more than 50 hours to complete.
AT A GLANCE
• 17 craftsmen • 50 hours • Crystal decanter • Single malt whisky • Sold at auction for $628,000
Presentation is everything. The rare, 6-liter “Imperiale” version of the highly sought after Macallan “M”, is the world’s most sophisticated single malt whisky, contained within a beautifully designed and
meticulously
crafted
crystal decanter. The whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno, created a blend that highlights the sensory experiences key to enjoying the very best single malts. The Macallen “M” is made exclusively with first fill Spanish Sherry Oak-aged Scotch. Dalgarno also selected seven pinnacle casks to result in a sophisticated profile. The Macallan is one of the world’s most collectable whiskies, sitting at the top of the auction index for whiskies and holding the current Guinness World Record™ for the most expensive whisky ever sold at auction.
