Marcellus is a friendly village at the eastern end of the Finger Lakes District between Syracuse and Skaneateles. Discover Main Street’s shops for shopping fun. Head to Marcellus Park and Baltimore Woods nature center for peaceful places to have a picnic, hike, walk and just be outdoors. nine Mile creek, a noted trout stream, is one of the most popular fishing sites in the Syracuse area. originally part of the onondaga nation, Marcellus was named a township in the former central new York Military tract and first settled by outsiders in 1794.

Baltimore Woods Nature Center

4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus 315-673-1350; baltimorewoods.org Six miles of hiking trails traverse 182 acres of hardwood forests and meadows with ponds, streams, overlooks and wildlife. the nature center offers year-round public programs and community events, day camps for kids, rental facilities, school field trips, an art gallery, and much more. as a private, non-profit organization, Baltimore Woods nature center is open to the public with no daily admission or parking fees. the interpretive center is open Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-4.p.m., and Sat., 10 a.m. -4 p.m.

Marcellus Park

2443 Platt Road, Marcellus 315-673-3269; marcellusny.com/parks/marcellus-park Marcellus Park is a treasure of the central new York area with leafy green shade trees, a creek, plenty of space for kids and dogs. Pavilions and picnic areas create ideal spots for gatherings during spring, summer, and fall. Martisco Station Railway Museum

5085 Martisco Road, Marcellus (at the end of Martisco Road off NYS Rte. 174, between Camillus and Marcellus); 315-451-6551 Martisco Museum is a restored former new York central railroad station listed on the national register of Historic Places. it is a two-story Victorian brick structure constructed in 1870. the first floor is reminiscent of a small-town railroad station. the second floor contains many railroad exhibits. the station is located on the Finger Lakes railway, formerly the auburn branch of the new York central. Hours: 2-5 p.m. Sun. May-oct. call to confirm it is open and for coViD protocols.

Nine Mile Creek

fishonondagacounty.com (for a map of access points) nine Mile creek begins its 22-mile flow at otisco Lake and flows north through the villages of Marcellus and camillus before draining its cold waters into onondaga Lake just west of the new York State Fairgrounds. the middle section has the best cold-water influence and is an excellent trout habitat. With 5 miles of public fishing rights (PFr) and 5 designated parking areas, the middle valley section of the creek is the most popular fishing spot. it supports a good number of both stocked and wild brown trout.

Oliver’s Produce & Farm Stand

4845 Frank Gay Rd, Marcellus 315-807-4751; oliversproduce.com a longtime “go-to” spot for fresh home-grown produce, especially sweet corn and varieties of tomatoes, along with beautiful flowers, local meats and baked goods. oliver Farms has been family owned and operated for over a century through four generations of olivers. Doors remain open 24/7 on the self-serve system at the much-loved farm stand and there is also a store. nestled in the Marcellus hills, the views from the farm are lovely.

Patchwork Plus Quilt Shop

The Steadman House Marcellus Historical Society

18 North Street, Marcellus; 315-673-4839 marcellushistoricalsociety.org/steradmanhouse.org Built in 1835, implementing a Greek revival design from the pattern book of Minard Lefever, a leading architect of the time, the Steadman House is now operated as a local history museum by the Marcellus Historical Society. the home was gifted by Lewis and alma Steadman to the Marcellus Historical Society and was listed on the national register of Historical Places in 2007. the home is filled with historic objects, furniture and Marcellus memorabilia. call for current hours and to check on coViD restrictions.

Sunset Ridge Golf Club

2814 W. Seneca Turnpike, Marcellus 315-707-4503; sunsetridgegolfclub.com the 18-hole course at the Sunset ridge Golf club facility features 6,937 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. the course rating is 71.9 and it has a slope rating of 130 on Blue grass. Designed by John Yuhas, the Sunset ridge golf course opened in 1998.
