Lamoreaux Landing is aptly named after a 19th century steamboat landing on Seneca Lake, and the pilings from this dock can still be seen below the vineyards down on the lake. However, this connection to the deep waters of Seneca Lake extends way beyond a geographical namesake or signature view. In the winter months, radiant heat from the lake insulates nearby vineyards, protecting the vines even on the coldest days when the air temperature in the region drops below zero degrees Fahrenheit, which is cold enough to kill delicate European vines like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot.
