Doing design is similar to cooking to some extent; they are both about creating. To create, a chef needs pots and pans while a designer needs design methods, sketching skill, software skill and etcetera. However, tools only are not enough for making dishes, food ingredients are needed as well; so does design. And I believe, stimulation from different experiences is essential for a designer to understand the world and collect design ingredients. I'm interested in understanding and challenging new things. My passion for varieties was developed by languages learning. Before I started studying in industrial design, I was major in English in a 5-year junior college. During the 5 years, I attended activities in other countries, interacted with people from different cultural background. I also participating in volunteerings. I believe, a designer should have rationality, sensitivity and craziness. Rational enough to understand and conquer limitations in technology, make an idea to production; sensible enough to have compassion on human and environment; and crazy enough to see possibilities in impossibilities.

Morning, Lady! Womb plays such a vital role in women's health; therefore, taking good care of it is an important lifetime thing for every woman. In today’s world, most women live highly active and busy lives. They are always on the go, balancing their career and taking care of their families. Neglecting issues of their wellness and health becomes easy. This motivates us to ask ourselves, how can design encourage women to take more care of themselves by simple action, especially on their lifetime friend, womb?

What's Bad for Women's Health? Since women healthcare is such a broad issue, we started by brainstorming about things that bring bad effect to women's health: OF CURRENT MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS -un-ecofriendly -chemicals bad for women's health -inconvenient packaging OF WOMEN IGNORANCE OF SELF-CARE -causes: busy, lazy, inefficiency -how to observe and record menses condiiton easily OF PROBLEMS DURING MENSTRUAL PERIOD -psychological: angry, depressed -physical: menstrual pain, feel cold, anemia, aching back, sweet tooth etc.

Further Research After reading several articles online and books in library about women's problems during the period physically and psychologically and some understandings of current sanitary products such as pads, tampons or menstrual cups. VISIT GENECOLOGIST We interviewed a gynecologist for more information according to his clinical experience. We want to know about the problems bother women the most and about screening techniques in gynecology, of how they diagnosis symptoms through observing women's menses excretion; in order to see if our idea of putting diagnosis on sanitary pads works. VISIT PAPER FACTORY Understanding the fact that current sanitary pads or tampons are bad for women's health and un-ecofriendly, we want to find alternative material for pads. So we went to a local paper factory in Taiwan called GuanHsin which is experienced at producing paper of natural fiber.

Brainstorming According to previous interview, we found out something significant to consider and brainstorm about. AN EASY WAY TO RECORD MENSES CONDIITON Many women don't really observe and memorize the condition of their menses under busy lifestyle while it is an important index for doctor to diagnosis. This will sometimes delay further therapy. BBT AND QUANTITY OF MENSES ARE KEY INDEX There are various ways for a genecologist to do diagnosis. Many of them are done under microscope, such as cell necleus or bacteria. BBT(Basal Body Temperature) and quantity of menses are index women can observe themselves.

Mouse Redesign
In a design workshop, we were asked to find out a bad existing product and analyze it based on Product Semantics in order to do the redesign. After discussing, we decided to analyze a pen mouse which is not userfriendly in many ways. In the end, we came out with two products.

Homemade Goodie The oil of citrus peels is reusable in various ways, but we usually throw them away. Citrus fruits, including orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon and pomelo are produced all over the world; so their peels are easily access. However, price of natural essential oil is high. Therefore, I thought that, what if there's a product for people to DIY essential oil from citrus peels at home, making trash to treasure?

There are many the elders could tell, especially advices and wisdoms of living. They've been through the time when everything was so natural without chemicals; such as detergent, shampoo or skin care products.
From a book about grandma's living wisdom, I learned that the oil in the peels of orange can be used to clean stubborn stains.

I wondered how this natrual and wise knowledge might be used in our life through a design.

SNEAK INTO THE LAB! After reading some information online, I want to understand more details about the process of extracting oil from citrus peel by distillation. So, I asked a friend of mine whose major is biomedicine to teach and accompany me through the experiment. We did the it in the organic chemistry lab in our school. WHY THROWING IT AWAY? •Citrus fruits(orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon and pomelo) are produced all over the world; Peels are easily access. •Price of natural essential oil is high. •Oil of citrus peel is reusable in various ways. CAN IT BE DONE AT HOME? And I had an idea, how about making the extract process a product which let people to DIY at home?

PROBLEM: WASTING WATER The water in condenser needs to stay cool during the whole process around 35 minutes, so they use running water; it's wasting water.

Shake Your Love In a service design workshop, we were asked to redesign using process of a specific product, to create a better user experience. Our team chose to do microwave which is commonly used nowdays in everyday life either at home or office.

Analysis We started from listing out the LCS (Life Cycle Steps) of a microwave oven, thinking about each step from manufature to recyle; including before using, during using and after using. Then, we chose to focus our design on the "During".

Then we did further analysis of microwave oven pre-using, during-using and afterusing based variouas product values. There are economical values related to cost and profit during manufature; ecological value related to environment, such as recycle; functional value about microwave using, like convenience or safety; social value such as family relationship and et cetera.

Existing mcrowave oven using is boring and lack of interaction. We brainstorm ideas about adding interaction to microwave using, to create an interesting user experience. We started from plenty of crazy ideas and then combine them to several design possibilities.

Green Rubbish 植樹恆好 Not only for good, but forever good. This is a project for 2013 IADA(Internaitonal Art Design Association) Award. The topic of the year was to find a way to arouse more environmemtal care in people's mind. Then I thought about beverage can, a common rubbish appears in everyday life. One person has a can of drink creates one rubbish; thousands of people create tons of rubbish. I couldn't help but wonder,how can beverage package arouse people’s environmental consciousness when they are throwing it away? Can trash do any good? 植 樹 恆 好 is the name of the design. It means planting makes forever well being; it is good for earth, the home we’re relying.

"I" of You And Me
This project was to design salt and pepper jar set. As I was searching a specific keyword for design theme, I related "a pair of somehthing" of salt and pepper jar set to "a couple".
It's not about you or me, it's about us.
Salt and pepper jars, two of them compose an "I" shape between; which indicates that having a relationship is not only about who "I" am anymore, it's more about the "I" of you and me.

Issue
Building a relationship is never easy that a couple has to overcome lots of obstacles. Everyone is an individual grown up from different background and thus has disparate values and thoughts. So, almost every couple go through the bad-patch of their relationship with many arguments and communications. However, through all these, twopeople learn to tolerant and concede then grow together.

Target user
How was the decision made: A couple is composed by two people, so does pepper and salt jar set which is composed by two objects. The product and the target group have the same characteristic – a pair of something.
Salt and pepper shakers can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, glass, metal, ceramic and so on. However, I of You and Me used ceramic with cloudy surface as its material for creating the feeling of warmness and comfort.
Definition: Couple who lives together, either married or unmarried. Age between 20 to 35 years old. Fond of white color, clean and modern style.
