The studio focuses on the sustainability of the building and the integration into the nature. As the graduation design, more attention is given to the construction. I developed my idea with the assistance of computer-based simulations and applied several green technologies to improve the building performance.
Setbacks vs. Privacy

Simulation
The setbacks bring terraces to each guest room, but at the same time it means that the guests on the upper terrace can see the people on the lower floor. Privacy is not guaranteed. The floor slabs are elevated and extended to a higher level to combine with planting. It protects privacy, while increasing the partial height of the guest room and bringing a wider view.
The design is composed of several modules, which consist of terrace, shading components, planters alongside the other basic equipment. Through aggregation and variation, I got a rhythmic and flexible design conforming to the aesthetics and context requirements.
I integrate the computer-based simulations, including radiation receiving and energy consumption into the design progress to achieve more sustainable and logical designs.

Repeated guest room modules and continuous arches form a sense of order and rhythm. Partially elevated floor makes the connection between the terrace of the lobby and the road closer. The public space then becomes more active.

The center of the design is a huge courtyard with an open swimming pool. The circulation of the east and west hotels converge here, and people, walking, swimming or lying, enjoy the sunshine and nature on the platform.

Cuboid guest room and cuboid with curved surface guest room for more centrality and privacy.
The large floor-to-ceiling windows in the module provide superb views. The green wall on the terrace and the indoor planting wall form a continuity, allowing smooth transition of nature into the interior. The wooden shading structure and suspended ceiling make the interior more warm.
The concave facade can form a self-shading effect, reducing the amount of radiation received by the west facade. Combination & Transformation The two modules are combined a t i n te r va l s a n d g r a d u a l l y detailed to form a basic guest room group.

The project is about the transformation of an old factory. Based on the analysis of the surrounding facilities, I propose to transform it into a kindergarten, concentrating on the adaptability of new functions and the stimulation of community vitality.

Yellow Passages
The adaptive reuse project transformed an abandoned factory alongside Chongqing, China into a kindergarten. As some elderly people and children are left behind in this fringe area, I intend to inject vitality into the site. On the urban scale. The building is integrated into commuters' route to the terminal; on the architecture scale, it contains continuous but diverse spaces for learning, exercising and playing.
To activate more possibilities of scenarios, I extend streets into the factory and then endow the streets with varied forms, which are combined together becoming a yellow passage system. Also, the linear element represents the cable used to be produced in the factory and the memory would resonate among surrounding residents.

CONCEPT
SITE PLAN
Pigeon Brand Cable
The main goal of the plan is to activate the abandoned factory area. I use yellow passages to connect the kindergarten, playgrounds, urban piers and other blocks, and passages transform at nodes to accommodate large crowds for gathering activities, which is conducive to attracting more people coming into the site.The yellow passages are inserted into the kindergarten from different heights. There is a continuous extension of the passages from the outside to the inside, and also a contrast between a more organic "small city" and the surrounding context.

Yellow passages cross through the wall as an extension of the external street. Then they stretch out again from the side walls to the site, connecting other passages.

Scene of the Slide The yellow passage guides people to shuttle between different heights and horizontal positions of the architecture, and it evolves into various forms as the position changes. Pedestrians can quickly cross the architecture to the pier along the passage, while children can play on the passage, including sliding, climbing, etc.

SECTION PERSPECTIVE The large-span space is separated by the slope, and the scale of the space gradually becomes smaller from left to right. Standing on the high ground, children can see the space continuously extending forward and backward. Under the rising floor, the same rising steps serve as reading seats to cater to the change of space height. Besides, a slide running through the space connects the high and low floors; a tree house stands alone as the uppermost elements in the hierarchy.

I participated in the open project organized by the LAC design studio. I was inspired by a friend, a graduate from the MSAUD program at UCLA, who told me about his travels to Detroit and the recent stagnancy of the city. I became interested in bringing forward the idea of reviving the city through an architectural practice. Cow Shed
Spirally Rising Floor
INTEGRATED FARM REVIVING THE CITY Since the 1990s, Detroit, a once glorious city, has been confronted with multiple dilemmas. To revive the city, the project aims to bring new jobs, more incomes, and fresh foods to residents in an agricultural way. I am also interested in designing for the quality of life of cultivated animals and plants. Instead of traditional industrial regulations, animals would rejoice in tailored spaces until their lives end so as to reduce the cruelty of humans killing animals in large quantities.

FLOWING PLATES, TWISTED TUBES I conceived of the flowing floors that spirally rise to eliminate separation between horizontal plates and to extend spaces upwards and downwards. Also, the angles of slopes vary, beneficial for training cattles' muscles. Twisted tubes provide unique passages for transporting and independent planting. All geometries in the system compose a farm full of adventure.

The concept drawing comes form the lithography Waterfall by M.C. Eshcer, which depicts an illustion of a perpetual motion machine. However, in this drawing, the author is decribing a framing system that goes in a circular mode, indicating its self-reliance.

The ground floor space is divided into the circulation of public use, staff service and animal activities. The different functional spaces are independent of each other, but the penetration of space is realized with sight. The circulations extend from the internal to the external. Citizens pass through the market to relish the city park on the north side; productions are transported to the railroad to reach other cities on the south; animals walk on the pasture on the east side.

Michigan Central Station (MSC) in the center off Detroit has been abandoned for 3 decades. However, the old rails still contain great economic potential, as the farm could be linked to other cities and productions could be transported efficiently. Thus, I propose the farm on this site. 13

Scene of the Grape Vine The vine trellis are placed on the top layer to gain maximum solar radiation, beneficial to grape growth. The chickens loosen the soil while walking freely under the trellis, and can eat some naturally fallen grapes. Two elements form a small natural system.

MASSING DEVELOPMENT How to design for the coexistence of people, animals, and plants? I try to put nature into the building, including the landscape for animals' activities, controlled temperature and lighting for plants' growing. Effectively, I create a coordinated system.

By folding farmlands that traditionally extend in the horizontal direction, I experiment with a new farm that spirals upward. The varied gradient can simulate mountain conditions, helping animals build muscles. Also, the formation saves land area, beneficial to efficient regulation.

Different animals live in specific spaces, and they interact and influence each other. For example, the chickens loosen the soil under the grape rack, and the cows can eat the vegetables growing in the tube. The staff works in labs, factories and barns, and visitors can visit all the production sites of the farm.

NATURAL COLLABORATION
FRESH FOOD DELIVERY
When the chickens are walking around, they are also loosening the soil under the grape vines to help the grapes obtain more nutrients. Fresh vegetables planted in the tubes provide cows with different nutrients from feed, and the milk produced is an excellent fertilizer to the plants. All cultivated objects support each other.
Grapes planted on the top layer are brewed by the winery, and wine can be directly flowed from the pipeline to the farmland, providing to cows. Cows are milked regularly every day, and then the milk is delivered on the conveyor belt to the market below. The integrated farm makes planting, breeding, production, and retail all efficient.

The studio focuses on the close connections between the residential space and the life of specific groups of people in the society based on a comprehensive study of urban space environment and social issues. The design includes residential area planning and individual architecture design. I mainly concentrate on solving the circulation difficulties caused by mountainous terrain.
FLOWING CROWDS I regard the population flowing in the community as cells , and use the biological structure to plan the overall residential area. In the design, large geometric masses with cutting triangles are used to organize urban roads, squares and internal streets. Finally, a very vibrant and dynamic neighborhood is created to activate the forgotten area on the edge of the university.
ELEVATED PUBLIC GARDEN In order to accommodate more greenery in the limited urban space, I elevate the public garden to the middle of the building as an overhead activity area. People can fully enjoy social life here, and it also provides a new landscape for residents living in the surrounding airspace.

The flowing passages connect the buildings, and the elevated garden forms the second natural interface.
The community contains a variety of apartment types. The common point is that people can feel the flow and vitality of the passages below from the balcony of each apartment, and also can overlook the shared garden of other buildings.

Increase cantilever masses along the city street to gain an alternate experience of gray space and open space.
Secondary Passage Establish a main passage running through the site, and add secondary passages in the eastwest direction for lighter foot traffic.
Public Greenery Embedded Mass Introduce green gap layers to improve the circulation, and provide embedded masses, also providing layers for "breathing" in the upper parts.
Internal Passage Extend secondary passages and form U-shape buildings conforming to the passages to open unblocked view access.
Triangle Facet Fa c e t e d b u i l d i n g s ' s k i n t o d i s s o l v e t h e orientation into the triangle fabric. Sky gardens extend to the vertical direction.

Photos taken by author I focused on the technology of robotic manufacture and learned how to produce a furniture with KUKA robotic arm. I was responsible for concept, form design and robotic arm operation.
VERSATILE FOR MULTI SCENES In different scenarios, people have different seat demands, such as office chairs, conference chairs, and recliners. I conceive a chair that can cover all people's daily needs for sitting. By flipping the chair, a brand new piece of furniture can be obtained, which brings some uncertainty and vitality to the space.

ONE SINGLE LINE According to the printing characteristics of the robotic arm, the printing path must be a closed loop that is drawn in one stroke. Therefore, we use a path similar to light reflection to simulate the trajectory of light moving back and forth in a closed area, and further fillet the corners to form the internal supporting structure of the seat. We adopted the PETG material, which is eco-friendly. Due to its transparency, the chair is crystal and shiny under the light. The recliner state presents smooth external lines and a fine and firm internal structure

2021.06-2021.07 Professional Work at HKS Shanghai Group Work with Hanyu Zheng and Ke Xie Instructor: Hong Liu and Feng Xiao Contact: Fengx@hksinc.com Location: Chengdu, China The project include commercials and skywalking system in a suburban area, where the metro stations in this district are of significant importance to the residents. Therefore, the team aims to define a linear lifestyle, enxabling residents to commute between metro stations and their apartments efficiently while passing vibrant commercial areas and assorted pocket parks along the way. The researches on TOD systems were conducted to establish “a skeleton”for the community and a T-shape main circulation is designed to organize the transition from public to private areas.

2021.02-2021.03 Professional Work at BENOY Shanghai Group Work with Yiting Zhou and Jiang Wu Instructor: Wei Tang Location: Shanghai, China The project is mainly a headquater for Meituan, a global leading delivery platform, along with some commercials and rental offices. Small commercial blocks on the bottom takes the form of villages and scatters acround the north part of the site, on top of which are elevated headquarters with voids in their center. The constrast in the volume of these geometries can be clearly seen, while the unity is strenghened with two rings connecting podiums and highrises. The rings are designed as the spiritual community for the company, where staffs can relax, brainstorm, exchange ideas, etc.

08 Ladder to Sky Complex+Highrise
2020.08 Professional Work at East China Architectural Design Institution (ECADI) Group Work with Hanyu Xi and Guanxi Wang Instructor: Dian Yu Contact: yd10403@ecadi.com Location: Chongqing, China The project, including one super high-rise, three high-rise residential buildings and supporting commercial facilitiesis, aims to be the new focal landmarks located in the riverside area in Chongqing. Due to the mountainous topography, stairs can be seen everywhere throughout the city, which nurtures the design concept that discrete geometries form a continuous and rising commumity. To create more public spaces, highrises are elevated and embellished with greeneries.
