1. pdp framework

P DP framework: Helps teachers plan and deliver effective listening, video and reading lessons. The framework is based on research and using it helps ensure students are motivated, engaged and active before, while and after (pre, during and post – P D P ) listening to, watching or reading a text.

P R E /TAS K: G ive relevant exposure and create interest in doing a task on the topic. - Teacher introduces and define the topic . -Teacher uses activities to help students recall. - Teacher ensure students understand the topic.

During-Task: D uring student focus their attention on the listening or reading text and complete tasks which develop and deepen their understanding of the text progressively (i.e., from simpler and more general to more complex and more specific). They can also do tasks that help them develop specific list

P ost-Task: S tudent extend and integrate the understanding and knowledge they gained from working with the listening or reading text into other skills areas or contexts. E xample: ✖Listen/read and arrange pictures or events in order ✖Listen/read and find the mistakes

2. esl methodology

ESL It is a common abbreviation used in schools and it stands for "English as a Second Language."

Schools will often use the term ESL when describing the programs that educate students who are not native English speakers and for describing the 'ESL students' themselves.

TIME LINE OF TE ACHING ME THODS

Each teaching method is based on a particular vision of understanding the language or the learning process, often using specific tecnique and materials used in a set sequence.

The main methodologies are listed below in the chronological order of their deVelopment:

G R AMMAR TR A N S LATIO N ME THO D ✖V ocabulary is taught in the form of lists or isolation

✖Long

✖Little or no attention to pronunciation

THE D IR E C T ME THO D ✖Classroom instruction exclusively in the target language ✖Grammar was taught inductively (teacher is a facilitator)

✖New teaching points were taught through modeling and practice ✖B oth speech and listening comprehension were taught ✖Correct pronunciation and grammar were emphasized

THE A U DIO LIN G U AL ME THO D ✖New material is presented in dialogue form ✖Memorization ✖Set phrases ✖Drills ✖Tapes, language lab, visual aids

✖Successful responses immediately reinforced

C O MMU N ITY LA N G U AG E LE A R N IN G

✖Language learning was visualized as a counseling session ✖Avoids threatening environment ✖Deductive learning (when A then B, knowledge is “transferred” from the teacher to the learner, information according to established knowledge)

THE S ILE N T WA Y

✖Learning is facilitated by physical objects ✖P roblem solving involving the material to be learned ✖Rods to introduce vocabulary ✖Charts to introduce pronunciation models, grammatical paradigms

S U G G E S TO P E DIA

The main features of suggestopedia are: ✖The use of music to relax learners. ✖The furniture, decoration and the arrangement of the classroom. ✖Teacher’s authority. The teacher plays a central role and he/she is the source of all information

TO TAL P HY S IC AL R E S P O N S E ✖Commands are given

✖Listening and acting ✖No verbal response is necessary

C O G N ITIV E C O DE LE A R N IN G

✖Deep structure of language ✖Chomsky LAD (language acquisition device) ✖Deductive ✖Conscious awareness of rules ✖Generative transformational grammar

3. learning another language

Benefits of bilingualism P hysiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process. The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.

Y ou become smarter Speaking a foreign language improves the functionality of your brain by challenging it to recognize, negotiate meaning, and communicate in different language systems. This skill boosts your ability to negotiate meaning in other problem-solving tasks as well.

Y ou build multitasking skills

This skill makes students good multitaskers, because can easily switch between different structures. In one study, participants used a driving simulator while doing separate, distracting tasks at the same time. The research found that people who spoke more than one language made fewer errors in their driving.

Y our memory improve Learning a language involves memorizing rules and vocabulary, which helps strengthen that mental “muscle. This exercise improves overall memory, which means that multiple language speakers are better at remembering lists or sequences.

Y our decision-making skills improve B ilinguals tend to make more rational decisions. Any language contains implications in its vocabulary, and these can subconsciously influence your judgment. B ilinguals are more confident with their choices after thinking it over in the second language and seeing whether their initial conclusions still stand up.

4. gnomio experience

MY G N O MIO . A t the beginning of the creation gnomio I was confused because the application seemed to be complicated for me. B ut then I understand what is all about and I started to enjoyed it.

W hen I started with the first page I was happy because everything was done as the teacher asked. I did not know what a virtual class was about. The interaction between teacher and students through a computer.

G N O MIO

I placed different activities in the virtual class for example forums, quizzes and homework. It is amazing how many educational things can be done through this application. I think that sometimes this tool might facilitate some teachers activities related to student’s the learning process

There are other tools that I placed in my virtual class in order to create a fun and enjoyable environment: M y student would be able to upload another kind of activities related to the topic using new applications.

The creation of quizzes, forums and chat was very interesting for me, because you can timed, you can grade so easily other there. S tudents can do their homework without any difficulty. A fter you focus in your work, everything is very easy.

5. role: online teacher

The online teacher must check very often their virtual class, because sometimes students need help with some topics and the teacher must be there to assist them.

The teacher must be concious that every student has each own way to learn or perceived the information, teacher must try to be as much clear and coherence as he can in order students can understand the instructions.

A s I mentioned before teacher must be clear with his instructions as well as in the moment to the test elaboration. H e must be careful to add information that students have been taught during the term.

I n my personal opinion being online tutor have been a great experience because I could interact with different personalities through the chat, and I learn that shy students are more open sharing opinions and ideas with their classmates.

Consideration for teaching online classes: ✖Good structure ✖ Clear objectives ✖ Small units ✖ Planned participation ✖ Completeness ✖ Repetition ✖ Synthesis ✖ Stimulation ✖ Variety ✖ Open-ended ✖ Feedback ✖ Continuous Evaluation

6. role: online student

STUDENT’S R OLE IN ON LINE COU R SE S

✖B e disciplined and on task ✖Consult with and seek guidance from advisors through required access methods ✖Assume responsibility for your own learning ✖Develop effective interaction with teachers and counselors (like classical learning) ✖E valuate and judge your own performance ✖Combat prejudice and communication barriers

STU DE NT’S ROLE IN ONLINE CLASSE SS ✖Students use appropriate technology to interact collaboratively with each other and teacher, and use feedback and consultation to develop and refine knowledge, skills, and attitudes. ✖Students are self-responsible for their own learning. They should decide what they want to learn, establish their goal, research and develop their subject.

✖Students research current data to answer questions and solve problems

✖Students learn to solve problems by assessment, data collection, and developing and implementing strategies using relevant information.

✖Students identify communication barriers, their causes, and solutions.

✖Students promote life-long learning and know how to access and use information when instruction is finished.

7. V alues and attitudes toward online classes.

Honesty means more than not lying. A more complete definition of honesty shows that an honest person doesn't do things that are morally wrong.

W e as a student must learn to be honest with the work with are doing with the activities. We are the responsible in our learning process so that’s why we have to work by ourselves.

I think that dishonest students do not get the knowledge that they have to get because other people is doing his job. H ow we can succeed as a person or as a country if all of us are acting that way. It is no professional, we are the future of this country and we are in charge to teach to all those kids that are coming behind us.

8. your classroom experience.

My classroom experiences as a teacher assistant was very interesting. I was assisting phonology class with Mrs. Tania P ineda. I think that there are subjects that are easy for some students and others have difficulties with it.

W hen I was developing my microteaching, I noticed that everybody was interested in the topic because I tried to catch the attention with some questions at the beginning.

B eing a teacher assisting is very challenging because students expect the best from the assistant. W e must be prepared in advanced because if we do not student think that we do not anything.

In order to give an efficient microteaching we have create activities as we have learn pre, during and post the class with the purpose to catch the student attention and interest. Test the students is an excellent option to check how well they have understand the topic.

9. ttt.

Teacher

talk time (TTT) refers to how much the teacher talks during a lesson. However, this will vary according to the stage of the lesson.

My performance in microteaching My teacher in the phonology class have to improve because she talks to much in her class. And also, sometimes students prepared a PowerPoint presentation but each group spent one hour class explaining the topic. I tried to give as many activities as I could in order to keep students learning in my performance as teacher in my teaching practice. I know that I have to improve more.

Excessive TTT limits the amount of STT (student talking time) and results in teachercentered lessons, loss of concentration, boredom and limited speaking skills.

Look who’s talking!

10. conclusions and recommendations.

This was an amazing activities for mi because I could interact with different type of students. Some of them were interested in their learning process and others just tried to pass the subject. The English level of some students do not match with the current studied level.

English teacher of the English Deapartment from UTEC have to pay attention in their evaluation process because there are so many students that have problems with the competences.

Speaking: Low English level according to the level they have

Grammar Structure: Many structural mistakes . They are confused in some topics

Comprehension: Lack of reading comprehension. Students have to understand that this is very important because they might fail if they do not improve. Each level have its difficulty. T
