ART AND CRAFT HANDIWORK CENTRE
Studio Design 04 | Kampung Sungai Pusu, Gombak
KEY PLAN LOCATION
Batik was a the art and craft handiwork centre which designed for batik production. The centre features vernacular revivalism incorporating contemporary expressionism. The centre has intention to respond and appreciate the history of the location of the site which was located at Kampung Sungai Pusu, Gombak. Gombak was first established by Minangkabau immigrants that came from West Sumatra, Indonesia in the 1800s.
Due to that, the centre implements the Minangkabau architectural elements into the contemporary design to revive the original history and culture that is increasingly forgotten by the community especially the younger generation.

CONCEPT : FLUX OF DIVERGENCE
The term Flux carry the meaning of flowing or flow; continuous change, passage or movement. The term Divergence on the other hand carry the meaning of to move, lie, or extend in different directions from a common point; branch off. Both of these concept carry an important role as it represents the core structure of a bicycle that holds the elements towards the design approach. From the diverging point of the heart of the building to multiple protruding angles of the roof flowing through the skies, all of these are subjects that are extracted and implemented throughout the design process. The goal of the design is to create a space that radiates energetic energy, with the integration of arts and cutting-edge facilities to embody the IIUM's values, where they strive to leading international centre of educational excellence.
