We will read poetry, write poetry, move, and groove! We will tap, clap and rap as we publish in a variety of 2-‐dimensional, 3-‐dimensional, and performance art pieces. Our little “PEAK-‐niks” will host a “PEAK Poetry Slam” in the “Prairie” Lights Café for friends and family on the last day … cool, man, can you dig it, oh yeah? We will aide students through counseling and discussion groups to enable them to better understand themselves and others, to help cope with and solve their own problems, clarify their values and help them to envision a satisfying and comfortable future. th th Intended Audience: 6 -‐10 grade th th Location(s) of PWR session: Preparatory Dates of PWR session: January 5 -‐11 Times of PWR session: 8:20 – 3:15pm Title for PWR session: Art and Storytelling Name of Facilitators: Kauline Sidinger and Carlen Arnold Description of PWR session: Focus on the process of fictional narrative writing by integrating visual components to increase investment and support the writing process. Students will use art (photography, painting, and videography) to support and enrich individual fictional narratives. This will allow visual and kinesthetic learners to engage with the writing process in a way that is accessible to their learning style. We will also integrate visits by guest speakers to emphasize real-‐world applications. We want to expose the students to different artistic applications of storytelling, and we are hoping that students start to envision a career pathway tied to storytelling enhanced by art. Intended Audience: 5-‐6 graders who need a challenging extension with fictional narrative writing and who are interested in pursuing a career in art. We want to invite students to demonstrate intellectual curiosity by enhancing their stories with art.
