Located at the base of the towering Mount Cooroora, Pomona is a lovely country village with a diversity of offerings. The hike to the summit of the mountain is challenging but rewards with sweeping views of Outback Noosa.

If heritage is your interest, Noosa Shire Museum should be your first port of call with a vast and varied collection from the past.

Every Saturday from 7am to 11.30am are the Pomona Country Markets followed by a silent movie at the Majestic Theatre commencing at noon. The heritage listed, Majestic Theatre has been operating since the silent film era and they also host regular events with live entertainment and classic cult screenings.

The Pomona Railway Station has been converted into an art gallery, with a series of halls that have displays of local arts and crafts, well worth a visit for any art lover.

There are a variety of eateries, shops and antique stores to keep you busy as you roam around the town.

The HinterHub @ Noosa & District Landcare Group, Pomona

The HinterHub is a retail shop and nursery run by Noosa and District Landcare Group. The HinterHub stocks the wares of local artisans, along with locally endemic native plants. It is a great shop to get a local souvenir or a gift with everything from earrings, necklaces, clothing, pottery, books, cards, toys, bags, soaps, and other natural personal care products, as well as just beautiful pieces of art focussing on our natural wonders of the Noosa Hinterland. All the wares are locally made from upcycled or sustainable natural products, all very unique and made with love and care.

The HinterHub building itself is steeped in local history. It was the former Coles Creek School which was near Skyring Creek and was moved to its current site on the back of a timber jinker in the early 1960s. The Queensland Country Women’s Association used it as their centre until the mid-1980s.

Later, Noosa Shire Council acquired the building for Noosa & District Landcare, which opened on the 18th March 1993. After 27 years as the administration centre for Noosa & District Landcare, the building was closed to the public during Covid-19 in 2020. During that time it received a makeover ready for its official reopening as ‘The HinterHub’ on the 1st December 2020.

With over 20-years’ experience in vegetation management and horticulture, Noosa and District Landcare provides a diverse range of services including carbon offsets, ecosystem restoration, native forest establishment and environmental property consultancy.

Their strong environmental ethic and ability to deliver quality results, starting from project proposal stage through to implementation and post implementation maintenance, is widely recognised. They have a wide range of services and integrate training and education into everything they do by providing vocational and technical training and community awareness raising programs. They work directly with landholders, local, state and federal government, private investors, schools, universities and catchment care groups in the Burnett, Mary and Sunshine Coast regions and also deliver presentations and workshops both locally and interstate. Whilst operating primarily at a grass roots level, Noosa & District Landcare also contributes at a strategic planning level on matters of state and national significance.

The HinterHub is a proud initiative of Noosa & District Landcare. Since its inception in 1991, Noosa & District Landcare has been operating as a not for profit organisation. Surpluses from commercial activities are reinvested in resources to directly support the continuity of community education and training programs and ensure the sustainability of the organisation in its capacity to employ local people.

So drop into the HinterHub and buy some local wares for your next gift and grab some endemic native species for your property or garden while you're at it! Not only will you be supporting Noosa & District Landcare, but also the dozen of local artisans who are supplying their shop. You can find them at Station Street opposite the Pomona Pub.
