Are You Prepared?

As a first responder, have you ever been involved with a mass casualty incident, a terrorist attack, or an active shooter event? Sadly, I can say that, indirectly, an active shooter changed the lives of so many people in a community I worked in for 33 years. One morning Father Larry Penzes, who was a priest in Lynbrook, New York, at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, lost his life while conducting morning mass. I worked a block away from the church at a local school.

Swiftly our day changed at North Middle School as we immediately went into a lockdown mode. This was something we had prepared for over the years. Our “go box” came out of the vault and our school prepared for a worst-case scenario as the shooter escaped and barricaded himself in a home nearby.

Other than the loss of Father Larry, the outcome for the children in my school and our community was positive due to previous actions of an administration that took the time to train its staff yearly on what to do in this exact scenario.

As a first responder, have you trained how to handle a mass casualty incident possibly involving a terrorist attack or an active shooter? Watching the horrible attack of a deranged shooter in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, I realized how well the Las Vegas Police Department was prepared for

this scenario. I saw responders immediately donning protective vests and helmets and working together to stabilize a very "hot" situation.

What could complicate the attack by a terrorist or active shooter? If you said fire, I would agree. Approximately 100 incendiary devices were found at Columbine. The attack in Benghazi used fire as a weapon and in 2008, fire caught our attention in Mumbai, India. On the home front, fire ended the Waco hostage situation, an ex-con set a car and a house ablaze in his lakeside neighborhood in Webster, NY to lure firefighters, then opened fire on them, killing two, engaging in a shootout with police and committing suicide while several homes burned. Fire ended the Waco hostage situation and in Center Moriches (NY) an individual attempted to set fire to a church where he had holed up before committing suicide.

Police throughout the country do an excellent job in protecting us and defusing hostage situations. The question is, are they prepared to fight fire should fire complicate their situation? Are we prepared to sit and watch a fire grow with innocent victims inside of the building? I thought about this after the hostage situation in my area. All of us know the flames we see in the movies do not depict real-life situations. Police officers should be familiar

with the four stages of fire growth. They need to know that if they arrive to a situation where fire is present, how much time they have to execute a safe entry to save a life before conditions can instantly change and compromise their own safety.

With active shooters and terrorist situations occurring more frequently, all responders must regularly train together so that everyone goes home safely. Pray for the 59 killed in Las Vegas and pray that none of the 527 wounded pass away. Although this was a horrible tragedy, I feel the Las Vegas responders did an outstanding job handling it. My question to you is; are you prepared for a similar situation?

Wires and Poles Down

On August 14, 2017, Clifton Engine 6 was dispatched to Charles in the area. The crew of Engine 6 quickly set up a perimeter to keep Street for a truck that took down wires. Engine 6 arrived to find a civilians away from the area and advised the operator to stay in the backhoe had became entangled in multiple overhead wires, bring- vehicle until PSE&G came to secure the power. He was uninjured.

Shop Rite Fire Draws a Crowd

The volunteer fire companies of Cardiff and Bargaintown were dispatched to English Creek Avenue on August 6, 2017, for a report of flames and smoke coming from the roof of the Shop Rite. Cardiff Chief Steven Sear and Assistant Chief Gilbert Zonge arrived and requested Cardiff Tower 15 to the rear of the store. Engine 1512 dropped a supply line from the tower to a hydrant 400 feet away.

Once the water supply was established, Tower 15 hit the fire with their elevated master stream, cooling the fire enough to allow fire-

fighters to proceed to the roof with preconnects. As it was a rather warm day, rehab was established and firefighters were rotated until all fire was extinguished and overhauled. Also responding were Scullville, Farmington, Northfield EHT EMS, EHT Police, EHTFD Fire Police, Atlantic City Electric, South Jersey Gas Company, Cardiff Ladies Auxiliary (and plenty of spectators!).

Atlantic City Collapse The Atlantic City Fire Department responded on September 3, 2017, to North New Jersey Avenue for a report of a structure collapse. Firefighters had a side-by-side duplex with an inward-outward collapse and spent two hours shoring up the building.

One occupant was removed from the collapsed structure, while the occupants of the other side were evacuated as a precaution.

It Took a While, But They Found It On September 4, 2017, the Clifton Fire Department was dispatched to a restaurant on Van Houten Avenue for a burning odor. Station 6 Deputy 8-2 and Engine 6 were quickly on scene and reported nothing showing and had companies take hydrant positions. During Engine 6’s walk-through a burning odor was evident but nothing was showing. Crews checked the AC roof units but all were in order. During the investigation 82 noticed smoke coming from the C side of the structure and requested Engine 6 to stretch a line and have Engine 2 hit the hydrant and supply Engine 6. A second alarm was struck as companies found fire running the walls in the restaurant. The fire was quickly extinguished. Montclair, Passaic and Paterson covered.

Extrication on the GSP The Pomona Volunteer Fire Company along with the Port Republic Volunteer Fire Company responded to Milepost 46.6 on the Garden State Parkway on September 22, 2017, at 0012, for a report of an MVA with entrapment. Firefighters arrived to find the driver pinned and the passenger lying on the ground.

Car Into Pole in Clifton On August 25, 2017, the Clifton Police Department was working a traffic detail off Van Houten Avenue when an officer heard a crash nearby. He requested fire and EMS for a single-vehicle MVA with a car into a pole. Upon further investigation the driver was found trapped in the vehicle. The driver was extricated by the Clifton Fire Department and taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Roof Collapse in Orange Just before shift change on August 2 2 , 2 0 1 7 , t he Or ange Fire Department responded to Heywood Avenue for a structure fire. Upon arrival companies encountered heavy smoke and fire showing from a 2-1/2 story residence with a slate roof. Although the majority of the attic roof collapsed, companies kept an interior push and were able to get the u p p er ha n d on t he f ire and co n t a i n i t . Getsinger was a big hit, and is believed to have sparked more interest by participants in winning a signed and numbered limited-edition print, or the big prize, the #1 framed Giclée Canvas print of “Honors.” The collector pins were sold out for the first time and attendees were asking how to purchase the print if they didn’t win (go to www.jgetsingerarts.com). The image could not have been created without the assistance of bagpiper and Deptford Captain Ronald Taylor, Jr., Fire Chief William Kramer of Cinnaminson Fire Department and members of his department, along with members of the Pennsauken Fire Department.

At 1300 on Saturday, John McCann, Administrator for the Burn Foundation and our major sponsor David Russell, President of Fire & Safety Services (www.fss.com), of South Plainfield, started drawing the winners of the signed and numbered limited edition print.

In addition, the Brigantine Professional Firefighters Local 2657 presented a check for $5,000 as a result of the golf tourney they conducted to benefit the Burn Foundation.

2-Car MVA in Folsom

The volunteer fire companies of Collings Lakes and Newtonville were dispatched to 8th Street and Mays Landing Road in the Folsom section on August 5, 2017, for an MVA with entrapment. Collings Lakes Captain Al Valentino arrived and established command for a two-

vehicle crash with one vehicle overturned and its passengers self extricated. Firefighters cut the battery cables on both vehicles, and then stood by while the overturned vehicle was righted and removed from the scene.

GSP Car Fire

The volunteer fire companies of Farmington and Bargaintown responded to milepost 35.4 northbound on the Garden State Parkway on August 24, 2017, for a report of a vehicle fire.

Bargaintown Assistant Chief Will Hancock arrived and established command for a fire in a pickup. The fire was quickly brought under control by crews from Rescue 1547 and Engine 1528.

Water Rescue in Cape May

On August 18, 2017, the Cape May Fire Department duty crew was clearing a hazmat investigation and were notified of a water rescue at Beach and Philadelphia Avenues. Units were three blocks away and arrived within seconds. Bystanders reported three victims in the water, which was quickly changed to one victim in the water who was attempting a rescue, while the original three victims were able to make it to shore. Cape May Fire Department placed two rescue swimmers in action. Shortly after, Cape May Beach Patrol arrived and put several lifeguards in the water. Fire and Beach Patrol members formed a human chain and brought the victim back to shore. A retrieval line staffed by CMFD and CMPD was used to assist in getting all members safely to shore. All four victims were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Avoid A Secondary Disaster Since our last article on Harvey Relief efforts, more disasters have struck and created even more need in multiple countries on an unprecedented scale. Where can you begin to help and how? For many, our first instinct is to collect and send food, water and clothing to affected areas.

Relief experts warn that our desire to help can actually cause a secondary disaster. According to CBS News article “Best Intentions: When Disaster Relief Brings Anything But Relief,” in 2004 relief workers in Indonesia were too busy tending to tsunami victims to sort clothing donations — enough to fill a beach. Those clothes were left to rot and

Americans are compassionate — most of us literally want to give the shirt off of our backs — but if you want to help, cash is king. Think about it. When you donate cash, you can choose the purpose and organization where you want it to go. Want to help mothers diaper and feed their babies? Donate to an organization focused on just that who will buy supplies from the affected area and stimulate economic recovery as well. Want to rebuild communities? The same principle applies.

Support a lumber yard in the devastated region who can pay wages to local workers … and so on.

The contributions add up. After Hurricane Sandy, non-profits aided about 30,000 households, according to an assessment done in October of 2016. Over 3,000 rebuilds were completed, $93 million in volunteer services had been donated and over $116 million in direct financial assistance had gone to those directly affected.

So how do you find and choose the organization who will carry out your wishes for your cash donation? Check out HelpNJNow.org to find a list of organizations who are already in the area responding.

HelpNJNow.org was founded in the aftermath of Sandy to provide education and direction for future NJ disasters, but through special messaging it is serving to provide that same aid in support of Harvey, Irma and Maria victims.

Also assisting in the response and recovery efforts are national, state and local VOADs (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters).

VOADs work to bring organizations together from the non-profit, forprofit business, grassroots and governmental sectors to focus on cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration in order to aid in disasters. While first responders coordinate the logistics of search and rescue in the immediate response of a disaster, VOADs and their partners work together to meet the relief and recovery needs of survivors, in both the short and long-term. Of course, help knows no boundaries. NJVOAD has been right there with its government and non-profit partners providing aid to other states through its network of partners on the state and national levels.

Whether you're a county employee or a member of a faith-based organization that volunteers during disasters, visit www.njvoad.org/ local-voadcoads/ to get connected with your local VOAD. As disasters approach, preparations are already underway to deploy assistance.

Connecting with your local or state VOAD before a disaster greatly contributes to an overall smoother and more coordinated response.

Natural disasters may be unpredictable, but with the help of organizations and resources like NJVOAD and HelpNJNow.org, you can be prepared to help. *** NJEPA is a not-for-profit organization that hosts its 20th annual New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference April 30, 2018, through May 4, 2018, for all persons and agencies involved in the emergency management field. The annual conference provides training, coordination, and promotes the development of public and private partnerships in planning, response, recovery and mitigation in all types of emergencies.

Don’t Fence Me In The volunteer fire companies of Farmington and Cardiff responded to Atlantic Auto Body on Fire Road on September 13, 2017, for a report of a fire.

Farmington Chief Len Tilley arrived and established command and reported a working fire, which involved two vehicles inside a fenced lot. Command had first-due Farmington Rescue 1547 pull two lines. The second-due Cardiff Engine 1516 took a position behind 1547 and fed it with its tank water. Other units arrived to assist with extinguishment and overhaul.

McBride Ave. House Fire On September 1, 2017, companies responded to McBride Avenue for a house fire. On arrival, a moderate smoke condition was visible coming from the basement A side. Engine 1 stretched a line into the structure, followed by Truck 2, which started to open up on the exterior. Engine 4 took a second line off Engine 1 to start hitting the fire from the outside. The fire was quickly knocked down with minimal damage done to the home.

Campbell Supply A Journey of Excellence Campbell Supply’s journey to New Jersey’s biggest fire truck dealership started in the attic of Woody Campbell’s (top, left) house in Edison in 1967. Since then it has grown to the 16-acre, 90,000-squarefoot facility of 36 shop bays, a parts warehouse comprised of multimillion dollars’ worth of fire and commercial truck inventory, a lounge designed to make the customers feel like they are home, along with many other details that set Campbell Supply apart from its competitors.

Woody built the foundation of Campbell Supply over his years of dedicated service to the fire community. That dedication led to many relationships that helped Campbell Supply get to where it is today.

Chuck Yeoman (left bottom, right) joined the Campbell Supply team as a mechanic in 1982. Today, Yeoman is Campbell Supply’s Chief Operating Officer and is heavily involved in the company’s fire business. Through the 1980s Scott Campbell (left bottom, center) and Chuck worked very closely on the large FDNY business that Campbell was able to acquire. Eventually, as Scott would move up through the business, Chuck was right there with him.

During the end of 1992 Woody was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Woody passed away on June 17, 1993, at 79. Chuck praises him as someone who is well respected within the fire industry, knowledgeable on the apparatus, and loyal to the Seagrave brand.

This led Scott to take the helm of the business, which was a learning curve for him. With the help of Ted Jensen (top, right), one of Campbell Supply’s key people and longtime customer turned employee and advocate, Scott was able to get the Company flowing smoothly.

Nearing the end of the 90s Campbell Supply decided to seek a different product line which led to the introduction of American LaFrance, owned by Daimler. The parent company was also seeking a dealership for their commercial truck brand, Freightliner. In 1998 Campbell Supply was officially both an American LaFrance fire truck and Freightliner commercial truck dealership.

As the years passed American LaFrance was sold and eventually went bankrupt, Campbell went on and became a Spartan Emergency Vehicle dealer. Today Campbell Supply enjoys a leadership position in both emergency vehicle and commercial vehicle sales in the Northeast with locations in South Brunswick, Newark and Sussex, New Jersey; and Montgomery, New York.

Belleville Basement Blaze Early on August 30, 2017, the Belleville Fire Department responded to Dewitt Avenue for a house fire. Upon the arrival of first-due Engine 2, a visible smoke condition was seen coming from the home. Mutual aid from West Orange and Bloomfield also responded.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the basement with no extension to the upper floors. Kearny, Montclair and East Orange covered.

Broadway 2-Car MVA On August 26, 2017, the Cape May and West Cape May Fire Departments were dispatched to the 300 Block of Broadway for a report of an overturned vehicle. Crews arrived to find a twocar MVA, with all occupants out of the vehicles.

One vehicle was on its side and had been reported by witnesses to overturn completely before coming to a rest, the other vehicle was still upright. Two people were evaluated and both refused transport.

Franklin Twp. Fatality

A 73-year-old woman died after a fire damaged her Gregory Lane townhouse in the Franklin Park section of township and left residents in four other units temporarily homeless. When police arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

Firefighters from Franklin Park, Middlebush, Griggstown, Little

Rocky Hill, Rocky Hill, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, North Brunswick and Kendall Park responded to extinguish the fire. Emergency medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Kendall Park First Aid Squad were also at the scene.

Quick Knockdown in E. Orange

On August 23, 2017, the East Orange Fire Department responded to North Grove Street for a house fire. Companies arrived to a slight smoke condition coming from the second-floor alpha side, and stretched a line into the interior. Units had a fire in the kitchen contained and quickly knocked down with no extension. Searches were conducted and proved negative with minimal damage done to the home.

Oceanville House Fire

The volunteer fire companies from Oceanville and Bayview responded to South Snake Road in the Oceanville section on August 14, 2017, for a structure fire after neighbors called 911 after hearing an explosion. Oceanville Chief John Mooney arrived and established command. Heavy fire was showing through the roof, front windows and door of a two-story, wood frame, single-family dwelling. Firefighters deployed two lines from the first due Oceanville engine; one to the front door and one to the rear. A FAST team was requested from Pomona and, because there were no hydrants in the area, water tenders from the Germania and the City of Port Republic. Firefighters worked for several hours on all four sides to bring the fire under control.

Once firefighters were able to enter the structure, two cats were found deceased. Rehab was set up for firefighters because of the high temperatures.

Also responding were Galloway EMS, Galloway Police, Atlantic County Prosecutor Investigators, Atlantic City Electric Company and Galloway Township Fire Department Chief Rick Smith.

Hereford Ave. Seawall Rescue On September 16, 2017, during the middle of the Fireman’s Convention, North Wildwood District 2 was dispatched to the Hereford Avenue seawall for a person who had fallen and was on the rocks below the wall. Quint 2 (in a reserve engine) and Ambulance 2 responded. Quint 2 requested Squad 2 from North Wildwood also responded. Upon arrival District 2 units had one subject off the seawall on the rocks near the water’s edge with a head injury. Quint 2 requested Quint 3 from District 3 to respond to use their aerial ladder for a rope rescue. A well-coordinated effort between Districts 2 and 3, Atlanticare Medics and North Wildwood Police affected the rescue. The party was packaged and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center.

Passaic 2-Alarmer

On September 14, 2017, the Passaic Fire Department received calls for smoke and flames coming from the staircase of a home on Jackson Avenue. While responding, Passaic Police advised units the front of the structure was heavily involved in fire.

Shortly after fire crews arrived, a second alarm was struck. Once the bulk of the exterior fire was knocked down companies were able to enter the structure and knock down the remaining fire and conducted extensive overhaul. Clifton Ladder 3 responded to the scene and was assigned the RIT and surrounding towns were called in to cover.

Hamilton National Night Out

The Township of Hamilton in Atlantic County held their National Night Out on August 1, 2017, at the Hamilton Mall with all of the township’s emergency services participating and providing demonstrations and hands-on activities for the children. Also participating were the New Jersey Forest Fire Service with wildland engines, a helicopter, and fire prevention literature; Atlanticare with their medical helicopter; Atlantic City Electric, which performed a demonstration showing what happens when you get too close to power lines; and the New Jersey National Guard. Demonstrations were also performed by SWAT members consisting of various county law enforcement personnel; a vehicle extrication demonstration; and K-9 apprehension methods by the Hamilton Township police.

Cliffside Park 5-Alarm Heavy fire and smoke hampered firefighters in Cliffside Park during a five-alarm fire which destroyed three businesses. At just around 1915 on September 5, 2017, the Cliffside Park Fire Department was dispatched for a report of heavy smoke in A.J.s Pharmacy on Anderson Avenue. The first chief arriving requested an intown second alarm. Companies stretched lines into the building and reported fire in the rear of the store. Limited access hampered operations as crews worked on forcing the rear door and opening the roof. As conditions deteriorated additional lines were stretched into the store and the exposures of the single-story structure housing the pharmacy, a fruit market and a discount store. At the 30-minute mark crews reported fire through the roof in the rear and blowing out the rear door, and command ordered the evacuation of the building and establishment of a defensive attack. Ultimately five alarms were struck bringing mutual aid to the scene and for cover. The fire was placed under control at just after 2300, five firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries and the building was a total loss.

MULTI AGENCY ACADEMIC COOPERATIVE (MAAC) FOUNDATION Hosts a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony of Northwest Indiana’s First Emergency Services Training Academy

The Multi Agency Academic Cooperative (MAAC) Foundation hosted an official ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the site of the new Emergency Services Training Academy located at 4203 Montdale Park Drive in Valparaiso, Indiana.

The MAAC Emergency Services Training Campus has been designed to support thousands of fire, law enforcement and EMS personnel throughout Lake, Porter, La Porte, Jasper and Newton Counties. The MAAC campus includes a 40-foot search and rescue tower, two-story live burn building, flashover unit, two-story residential training structure, ventilation and forcible entry training structure, rescue technique drafting pond, vehicle extrication pad, ventilation and forcible entry structure, fire extinguisher and propane teaching areas, indoor training space and classrooms.

“We have developed a state-of-the-art campus that will serve as a leading provider of safety, emergency preparedness, and response training throughout our region. The MAAC is an incredible asset for northwest Indiana’s deserving public safety community,” Celina Weatherwax, President, McMillan Family Foundation said.

During the ceremony, Stewart G. McMillan, Founder, MAAC was appointed the organization’s first Chief.

EMSCNJ Breaks Ground for New 9/11 Memorial

Approximately 125 people attended the September 10, 2017, groundbreaking ceremony for the EMS Council of New Jersey’s (EMSCNJ) 9/11 memorial, which will feature a piece of steel beam from the World Trade Center. The monument — the only one in the USA dedicated exclusively to all the emergency medical services personnel who responded that day — will sit next to the borough’s existing 9/11 memorial on Beachway Avenue. EMSCNJ and Keansburg officials collaborated on the project.

Ceremony participants and guests included: EMSCNJ President Joseph G. Walsh, Jr. of Neptune; Keansburg Borough Mayor George Hoff; Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06); Assemblyman Declan J. O’Scanlon, Jr. (R-Dist. 13); Monmouth County Freeholder Serena DiMaso, who is also an active riding member of the Holmdel First Aid Squad; and Martin Nystrom of the 9/11 Tribute Center, a former Maplewood First Aid Squad member who responded during 9/11.

The five-foot long, 338-pound portion of rusty, twisted steel measures 34-inches wide and 29-inches high. It will be mounted on a massive rock that washed up in Keansburg after Super Storm Sandy, and be displayed between replicas of the Twin Towers. Its placement will be in direct line to where the towers stood across the Raritan Bay. Dedication of the finished memorial is planned for September 2018.

Firehouse Kitchen Spencer’s Chili

By Ray Cooney I know I’ve written a few articles about chili, but I promise, this one is a little different. Firehouse Kitchen was asked by Hormel Chili to judge the “America's Best Firehouse Chili” contest. My job was to pick the top 10 recipes, which would then be judged by a group of people looking for the top three choices. I thought, “No problem. I’ve judged chili contests before” But this was different.

The difference was that at all the chili contest I have judged before, I was able to taste the chili. At this one, I had to judge just by reading the recipe. When Hormel Chili began their Facebook campaign, I posted it on my Facebook account as well. We received hundreds and hundreds of submissions. During the month that you could submit your recipe, I was up every night until 2 a.m. trying to figure out which Chili was the best.

After I found my top 10, Hormel Chili designed a campaign to pick the top three.

There was a lot riding on this contest. The first-place prize was a check for $10,000 for the fire department that the chili was from and Hormel Chili donated an additional $20,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The finals were held at the New York City Fireman’s Museum in Manhattan. I couldn’t think of a better place. When I arrived at the museum, it didn’t smell like a museum — it smelled like chili. The three finalists were busy preparing their recipes. I was stunned to learn that a New York City firefighter didn’t make the top three! The top three were from Florida, Pennsylvania and Louisiana. We had Firefighter Craig Winebaum, from greater Naples, Florida; Firefighter Andrew Drescher, from Union Deposit, Pennsylvania (right by Hershey Park) and Firefighter Jeremy Chauvin, from Saint John’s Parish in Louisiana. The judges, at the finals were myself, the head of the Hormel Chili brand and the head of The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the great Ron Siarnicki (who does so much for firefighters).

Before I announce the winner, I just wanted to say thanks again to all the firefighters who sent in recipes and gave their support to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. AND THE WINNER WAS: Louisiana Firefighter Jeremy Chauvin and his “Spencer's Chili.” It had a mild, sweet, delicious taste. I asked Jeremy where the name came from, and he told me the story about one of his firefighter brothers, named Spencer, who was killed last year while responding to a car accident. Jeremy gave me a bracelet that said “Spencer’s Way.” It is still on my wrist.

Special thanks to Hormel Chili for making this contest happen and of course all the helpers and volunteers that were there.

Thanks for the Memories

Originally built between 1969 and 1970 this Mack CF Pumper served Freehold Borough for many years. It was then acquired by the Roosevelt Fire District, which was disbanded in the middle of 2016 by the Township of Roosevelt. She was sold and is now owned by a private collector who is going to keep the Mack lettered up to preserve the history of the former Roosevelt Fire District.

Obituary

Marlboro Past-Chief Carlton Borden

The Marlboro Fire Company #1 of Marlboro Township recently mourned the loss of past department chief Carlton ‘Bud’ Borden, 88.

Borden died Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Monmouth Crossing, Freehold Township. He was born in Freehold.

Borden served in the U.S. Army 321st Signal Battalion, 7th Corps, A Company, from 1950 to 1952. He was a splicer for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company where he was employed for 33 years before his retirement in 1985. He was a 70-year member of the Marlboro Fire

Company and served as Chief in 1962.

He was also past-President of the fire company, a former Commissioner of Marlboro Township Fire District No. 1, a pastPresident of the Marlboro Township Exempt Association, and a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chief’s Association and the New York State Fire Chief's Association.

The Fire Company would like to thank ex-Chief Borden for his 70 years of dedicated service.
