/ISSUE Bekraf Creative Office is a dedicated office that collaborates the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) with Jakarta Creative Hub (JCH) to synergize office workers and creative workers, better known as the creative class. The main issue that underlies this project is about location and coordination, where the location of the offices of the two agencies / organizations concerned does not yet occupy their own buildings. Moreover, the existing Bekraf office is still separated in two different buildings by a main road. This has an impact on coordination that has not been maximized. Even though in the work program, both of them have some similarities, which are both handling the creative industries, starting from holding workshops, creative talk and exhibition. The only difference is that JCH handles the Jakarta area while Bekraf handles the entire territory of Indonesia. Looking at these two potential issues, it will be more optimal if Bekraf and JCH can occupy the same building to facilitate coordination between ‘leaders’ and ‘implementers’. Unification of the two is also expected to facilitate creative workers and the general public in seeking information, attending training/workshops and collaborating in advancing the creative economy of Indonesia.

Literally, convergent can also can be interpreted as something that meets or ‘meeting in a place’. This simple understanding is interpreted as a space for interaction/rest/discussion/ open/gathering which is placed in the middle of the building by dividing the building mass into three main parts. The middle area is flanked by active work spaces where at certain peak points, it can be a neutral space to reduce stress and saturation. This simple space configuration is a solution to implement work n living in a creative office where work and social life are one entity. Convergent translation is also applied to the mass of buildings that are made jutting towards one side, namely the foodcourt and open space as a place of collaboration and interaction. The mass of buildings pressed in sequence also creates a hierarchy that implicitly indicates that office ownership on behalf of Bekraf.

/ISSUE

In this modern Reform era, public services to the local community, especially in the Urban Village, have put efficiency and transparency in the forefront. This is a progress in bureaucracy that should be followed by a positive image in terms of architecture. An image that is able to erase the monotonous impression while still showing the peculiarities of institutional buildings that prioritize space organization for better working activity.

Public Hall

The Function is executed by creating a bubble diagram where public service room as the front office is placed in the middle area so that it can be connected directly to the Head room, Deputy Head room, and Public Hall. This public services room uses partitions wall in anticipation of reforming the organizational structure in the Head Section and Staff room as back office. The Form is executed by tilting the main entrance at 45 degrees. The aim is to minimize the heat of west sun and as a building vista from three different roads. The high roof shape of the main facade aims to reflect the openness and transparency of public services. Meanwhile, the peculiarities of institutional buildings are indicated by using raw materials, such as brick, concrete, and wood as a form of honesty.

/CONCEPT The initial idea of ​​the redesign of Bulusan Village Office was how working activity that began to prioritize efficiency and transparency could be translated into effective space organizations or in other words using the Form follows Function approach.

The Bulusan Urban Village Office located on Gondang Raya St. has carried out public services for approximately 30 years. This is known from the form of office building that reflect the period of the beginning of development in the New Order era, where several administrative buildings in the city of Semarang resembled local traditional house, namely Joglo House. The similarity is located on the roof and impression of its mass form which is still looks monotonous.

/ISSUE An uncle’s one-storey house in the West Jakarta is become an ‘existing’ for a concept of a contemporary 60m2 small house in a densely populated settlement. The narrative that is trying to build is a design that begins with a contextual approach that is experiencing reallife patterns of daily activities and observing the environment around the house. /CONCEPT For one week, the family does like family in general, working in the morning and resting at night. However, there are some unique habits that are often relaxing while eating mendoan (fried foods) after work, having dinner together while watching television series, housekeepers who do not stay overnight, brothers togetherness especially when playing games, to the hobby of cycling on weekends. The environment around housing is classified as conducive where neighbors know each other and socialize. Starting from this approach, the concept of contemporary small house design with splitlevel house was proposed as an idea to divide public and private zone by level difference, create expansion of infiltration area through its vault, create natural air stack effect, and create various space experiences from massing arrangement. It also equipped by smart furniture such as bed/desk in kids bedroom, drawer in stairs, and sofa/dining table in living room in order to make small house more compact.

/CONCEPT

DIponegoro Golf Driving Range will redesign its building in order to improve services such as golf driving range, gym, sport store, retails, foodcourt, and better accessibility of vehicle and pedestrian.

The approach that we use to design the second building is started by analyzing the main road and sun path. The main road is categorized as a vast road with 6 lines (3 lines up and 3 lines down) which can contain six cars parallel.

The building will be planned to have two masses that located in different location. The main building is located at the end of small road with a facilities that will support golf sport such as new golf driving range, sport store, gym, restaurant and multifunction hall.

By looking this as an advantage, we arrange masses which have 5 retails in the front and one service in the back with zig-zag arrangement. We choose zig-zag arrangement to create an ‘open gesture‘ to the main road so people who passing by with a car hopefully notice and welcomed by the building.

While the second building will located at the side of main road. This building will have retails such as cafe, small restaurant and outdoor terrace. Eventhough buildings are separated, it is part of Diponegoro Sportainment Center. This is the first briefing that was explained to us in first schematic phase, so there will be some changes in the future.

This open gesture create another side effect to the back of building. It creates terrace that will become the ‘hidden gem’ of the building. Terrace as an open space will become a place that generates various activities as an extention function of retails with additions of benches. And in order to prevent west sun radiance, it placed several trees like ketapang kencana.

/ISSUE Tembalang is an educational area in the south of Semarang City which was built to equalize the economic development of the city of Semarang. Now, no less than 15,000 students annually crowded the Tembalang area which is the base of the Diponegoro University campus and 4 colleges. Based on data, as many as 5,558 residents were recorded as indigenous residents of Tembalang. This number is 1/10 of college students currently at 49,513 students. When viewed from its history, there have been drastic changes in the area that was once a limestone hill now crowded with boarding houses, photocopies, burjo and laundry. Over time, Tembalang became an exclusive area inhabited by students. Seeing the gap between the community and students, a solution is needed from students as an ‘agent of change’ to build a surrounding community while practicing the knowledge gained on campus for more tangible applications.

/CONCEPT One of the solutions that we narrate is TEMBALANG HUB, a space that is able to synergize students and society where there are various kinds of facilities for various fields of study which in practice must be able to provide social benefits and impacts to the community through training workshops, socialization, and people parties. We translate this idea with the concept of Chronostasis, which is a condition that occurs whenever attention is shifted or distracted, leaving a feeling that something slower has happened, in other words ‘time bonding’.

Time bonding is considered appropriate for processing a choosen site in Diponegoro Reservoir which is an inactive residual space and tends to be negative, into a living communal space so that it can unite diversity between 2 users and supported by surrounding environment. By making a circular mass as the base, the view in all directions and access from all directions becomes an important point so that the activities that occur are not only limited by massive walls. The division of zoning is also simple, where the upper floors are used for student activities while the ground floor with a wider area is focused on communal and social activities.

/ISSUE Bandung City is now changing the image of the city into one of the world’s major cities that excels in the creativity and happiness of its people. With the many communal spaces, green open spaces and public facilities that are built, accessibility and connectivity are important factors to connect community activities. In addition, the difference in zoning between the city center and the residential area around it should be connected with mass transportation modes to reduce the growth rate of vehicles and congestion. One that has been planned is LRT (Light Rail Transit). A mass transportation modes that is right with the order of the city of Bandung.

/CONCEPT

City Hall LRT Station is located between the central government and city center support areas such as offices and schools. The development of the City Hall LRT station will not only accommodate the activities of workers and students around the surrounding stations but also tourists from Bandung who enjoy urban creative tourism that is created from the park around the City Hall. The design approach of the LRT Station which lies on Jalan Merdeka begins with maximizing the effective form of mass. Then the mass is made into 3 layers of zones in order from the bottom, namely the public zone, commercial and platform. The mass in the western part is then split into three parts so as not to eliminate the existing vegetation while being able to take advantage of natural shading. While the mass in the east is drawn to the south so that it becomes the main vista and does not close the visual view towards the school. This simple mass is then wrapped with a secondary skin as sun shading and filled with vertical elements in the form of a steel column

Natural disasters that occur in Indonesia often hit many cities/districts are randomly fatal infrastructure and casualties. This phenomenon seems to make a pattern that keeps repeating over the years. Although it has been overcome by disaster mitigation, the implementation only touched a number of community groups for example socialization in schools and villages. How about the community is not there? Like in communal space for example. Unavailability learning space/center on natural disaster mitigation as well an indicator of a lack of knowledge and understanding of the community in facing a disaster, especially in eastern Indonesia. For the initial stage, Malang City was chosen as a densely populated urban city that is geographically surrounded by 5 volcanoes active, the threat of earthquakes, constituency to floods and landslides.

Specific location selection is based on the potential of the Freedom Square which is the favorite communal space in Malang City and also the problem of lack of public facilities that can educate the public. The existence of UDLC is expected to be able to make Malang City a pilot of a disaster mitigation center for eastern Indonesia.

As an Urban Disaster Learning Center, S.O.S (Silhouette of disasterS) offers a natural disaster mitigation education process through an experience of space circulation centered on existing vegetation and synergizing with other activities/functions. Laying space centered on existing vegetation creates new perceptions for a communal/central space that tends to be closed by mass and roof. Whereas the addition of the sitting group function on the ground floor and the viewing post on the first floor makes S.O.S an unselfish space because of its laying which responds to the axis of the pedestrian and axis shift of view toward an Alun-Alun Merdeka plaza.

/CONCEPT

The Old City of Semarang, also known as the Little Netherlands, has now become a conservation tourism area that has begun to make improvements here and there. The revamping process was marked by the revitalization of several old buildings, the improvement of pedestrian lanes, the provision of parking areas and the emergence of tourism supporting facilities in terms of amenities such as cafes, 3D art museums, art galleries, gift shops and restaurants.

The absence of a rest area for tourists and the architectural settlement of some revitalizing buildings that are not contextual have become our concern to narrate a rest area that is able to reflect the context of the Old City. Reflection that becomes the main concept is described as how a rest area as a new building can reflect the Old City without intentionally replicating what has been created, in other words taking the red thread of the Old City context as a guideline design.

Although the revamping process is still being carried out, it seems that there are still some buildings which architecturally are in contrast to the Old City context. Instead of being a fancy new building, it even causes disharmony with the old building structure. This problem was compounded by the absence of a rest area for tourists both toilets and prayer rooms in the Old City area of​​ Semarang.

The four things reflected in the new rest area are eminent, symmetry, curvature, and material. These four guideline designs are then attached to the simple and clean building mass located on the hook near the tourist junction. The selection of the site on the hook is also one way to break the stigma of a rest area that must always be hidden, so that no buildings in the Old City are abandoned.
