SW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe presented prizes in the 2013 Armidale Fair Trading Centre NAIDOC Art Competition. More than 40 entries were
received with a total prize pool of $2,000. Mr Stowe commended the creativity of all entrants for their interpretation of this year’s National NAIDOC theme, We value the vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963. “I congratulate the prize winners as well as every entrant,”
he said. “This competition continues to draw on the remarkable talents of local artists and demonstrates the value of art in educating and encouraging community cohesion. “These works represent a compelling range of important reflections on history and cultural Page 1

Future - $25 Primary School Students Year 6 First Prize: Class 6S, Ross Hill Public School, Inverell, Giree Giree on the Caubawn Coonigal, - $141 Second Prize: Malachi Blair, Ross Hill Public School, Inverell, Mine Our Land And The Spirits Scream - $70 Third Prize: Class 6R, Ben Venue Public School, We Belong To This Land - $50 Highly Commended: Class 6G, Ross Hill Public School, Inverell, Spring Into Action - $25 Outstanding performance by a school was won by Drummond Memorial School, which received a glass platter by Wathaurong Glass, valued at $250. Mr Stowe said the NAIDOC Art Competition makes a significant contribution to increasing the understanding and celebration of Aboriginal history and culture and offers an opportunity for young and talented Aboriginal artists to gain recognition and exposure. Initiated by Fair Trading in 2008, the competition is also supported by Armidale Dumaresq Council and Housing NSW.
