Capacity building in Timor Leste

atchelor Institute has launched a philanthropic program in Timor Leste that will assist our nearest northern neighbour through the provision of teacher aides to help in the delivery of intensive English language courses. Batchelor Institute CEO, Robert Somerville AM, said that this is a very exciting time for the Institute as it expands into overseas operations that will assist the people of Timor Leste with their nation building aspirations. “We will be providing funding for three teacher aides to assist in the delivery of Batchelor’s

Certificate I and II Intensive English courses”, Mr Somerville said. “The delivery of these courses will provide valuable skills to the participants and open up more opportunities for them in the region. “This is a wonderful partnership between Batchelor Institute, Timor Leste, the Northern Territory Department of Education and NEC which are also providing assistance to this program. “Batchelor Institute has well developed courses related to English language skills through its work in the Indigenous sector over the past 40 years and we
look forward to seeing the people of Timor Leste benefit from our experience. “Our Both-ways learning philosophy that has been developed through our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, easily transcends to other Indigenous cultures, and is one of the key differences between Batchelor and other educational providers. “The Institute is hopeful of securing further international expansion in the future, however this is wonderful first step for us as a training and education organisation” Mr Somerville said.
