esert Knowledge Precinct Open day will be held on Sunday 18 August from 11 am to 3 pm at the South Stuart Highway, opposite Yirara College, Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The Inspiring Australia initiative is supported by the Australia Government as part of National Science Week. All are welcome to join the activities at the Desert Knowledge Precinct for a fun-filled family open day. Explore the Precinct and find out what’s happening with a range of demonstration and interactive activities that include: - Follow and complete all the stops on the Desert Trail for your chance to win an iPad mini. - Tours of the Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre. - Bush cooking demonstration by Ninti One. - Come see CSIRO’s friendly piglet and find out why Alice
Springs scientists are working in Africa. - Find out what carbon farming in Central Australia’s landscapes might really look like. - Explore past and future CSIRO research projects relevant to Central Australia, and help identify key research questions for a chance to win a prize. - Ask a scientist a question, or three! - Colouring competition. - Craft and games by the Regional and Remote Aboriginal Children’s and Services Support Unit - Record your language, listen to language, view Indigitube Language clips and show your language group on a map with Batchelor Institute. - Have a go at lino block printing at the Art Centre. - Demonstrations in the CAT workshops. - Guided tours of Bushlight and the Life Skills Camp. - Visit the CAT 2020 Visioning
Booth – what do you think the headlines will say in 2020? Batchelor Institute will also have an information display for VET and Higher Education courses for Indigenous people, art display, remote learning centre display, Indigenous language projects, library display for Indigenous students, Indigenous community services programs, music builds literacy and life skills for Indigenous students, Preparation for Tertiary Success (PTS) display and interactive activity and garden of reflection tour for the visitors. When you’re done relax in the Irrante Cafe or enjoy the Ninti One BBQ. The Desert Knowledge Precinct Open Day is a group initiative with displays and activities by Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, Centre for Appropriate Technology, CAT Projects, CSIRO, Desert Peoples Centre, Ninti One and Desert Knowledge Australia.
