Eben Love completes first ArtsReady traineeship by Marissa Pagliarell 8 November 2015
E
ben Love has completed his ArtsReady traineeship, with the 20 year old now set for a career in theatre and staging, thanks to his experience with The Centre for Contemporary Arts in Cairns and the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Brisbane. ‘I’ve been mainly working in the theatre operating lights and sound, coordinating with lighting designers ahead of live performances and concerts. I hadn’t done any of that before my traineeship,’ Eben explained. The creative arts is something that’s in Eben’s blood, with both his mother and father wellknown across the Australian arts community. ‘I grew up around that scene. My Father is a playwright and Mum is really involved too, so I have been brought up around festivals and the creative arts my whole life,’ said Eben. ‘I started doing work experience at The Centre for Contemporary Arts before going onto a paid traineeship for more theatre-based stuff. That’s what I love doing. I love the creativity that’s involved.’

The aspiring lighting designer has been guided by ArtsReady’s Indigenous Mentors throughout his Certificate 3 in Live Production and Services traineeship. He explained the support he has received has been extremely valuable, along with the rare networking opportunities presented to him. ‘I love meeting cool people like the Cat Empire and all of the different and creative people around town and from other states. I really liked that,’ said Eben.
Now Eben is excited about his future and career opportunities thanks to his time with ArtsReady. ‘It really feels like I have achieved something. You get to meet a lot of people who are in the industry already, and that’s better than going to university because you get hands on experience from the start.’ For more information about how you too can host a trainee visit our website www.ArtsReady.com.au
