utdoor movies, community-based programs and school holiday fun are all on the agenda for Aurukun thanks to Queensland Government funding and local partnerships. David Kempton, Member for Cook, today announced more than $10,000 in funding for the Police Citizens Youth Club to purchase a mobile multipurpose and entertainment trailer. Mr Kempton said the purchase would not be possible without extra help from Aurukun Shire Council, Sea Swift, Island and Cape, and the contribution of $5,000 from
Rio Tinto Alcan towards the trailer purchase. “This initiative will provide a much-needed resource for children, families and the community, and will be a great opportunity for young people to participate in community events, social activities and sport,” Mr Kempton said. “Aurukun experiences around 26 weeks of road closures due to flooding every year, with limited opportunities for young people to take part in organised sport and positive social activities locally. “The multipurpose trailer will be a central focus for future community activities and school holiday programs, providing children and young people with recreational activities and
entertainment options within their community.” “Community and outdoor events will benefit from the many features of the mobile trailer, including a barbeque, movie projector, public address system, first aid and safety equipment, making it a versatile community resource for everyone.” “This is another example of partnerships working to deliver community solutions.” Mr Kempton said the Government funding was being made available through the Cape York Welfare Reform program. “I am thrilled to be able to make this announcement, it will mean a lot to the Aurukun community,” he said.
