Indigenous singers on the rise

T
he Merindas are arriving in Sydney to perform one soul packed show with their live band on May 25th at The Bourbon Hotel. Selling out shows in Perth, The Merindas (meaning beautiful woman in Aboriginal - Eora language) features three of WA’s best Indigenous songstress’ covering some of Motown’s greatest hits including Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Baby Love, Please Mr. Postman, My Guy, I Want You Back, Heatwave and many more hits to follow. The Merindas are, Perth based award winning artist Candice Lorrae aka Ulla Shay, rising pop artist Angela Rule, and emerging young talent, Kristel Kickett. The girls started their musical
journey at a young age with writing their own music and performing in bands nationally and internationally. They come from different musical backgrounds and influenced by Country, Blues, Gospel, Soul, R&B and Pop. The group was formed by Noongar Radio to perform Motown hits at the premier of ‘The Sapphires Movie’ in August 2012. The resulting standing ovation and inundation of praise gave birth to ‘The Merindas’. They are supported by one of Perth’s most prestige artists, Phil Walley Stack. Through his groundbreaking music and productions Phil celebrates his ancient culture, whilst embracing contemporary edge music and dance through the sharing of his dream-time inspired stories. with her illuminating talent is the captivating and powerful Sydney based singer/songwriter, ‘Krista Pav’. The Merindas are set to tour in Sydney to promote the release of their first single ‘Ready To Love’. This show will surely get you moving and will take you back in time, to a fabulous place in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with your favorites! The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Four Tops, The Temptations, Gladys Knight and many more. THE MERINDAS These small town girls are going places with their new exciting show paying homage to the greatest Motown Hits of all time. The Merindas (Meaning beautiful women in Aboriginal Eora language) features three of Western Australia’s most talented Indigenous performers. Including award winning Jawoyn and TSI artist Candice Lorrae, rising pop star Noongar/Ngadju artist Angela Rule and emerging songstress Noongar artist Kristel Kickett. In 2012 Noongar Radio had the idea of bringing these artists together to perform Motown hits at the movie premier of the Sapphires as a one off show. The show was a great success receiving a standing ovation and much demand in the following weeks. With the support of Kulcha’s Programs Manager Frank Italiano, The girls named the group The Merindas and hired a backing band named Rhythm 22. Their first independent show was held in November 2012 at Kulcha Fremantle, which sold out in the first 10 minutes. Since then, The Merindas have supported Kasey Donovan, Christine Anu and have performed at many Balls, Festivals and Corporate Events. The Merindas currently perform over 25 Motown hits and have the similar stylings to The Supremes, but with attitude. The show is 90 minutes and consists of high energy movement and fabulous costumes. This is a show not to miss! They Merindas were nominated for a Deadly award last year in ‘Most Promising New Talent In Music’. Self-Managed, The group are set to release their first debut single through MGM titled ‘Ready To Love’ on May 22nd 2014 followed by a tour in Sydney where the band are performing at The Bourbon Hotel on May 25th starting 4pm. They are also touring to Melbourne to play at the Songlines Reconciliation event

The purpose of the meeting is to: 1. Authorise a new Applicant (pursuant to section 66B of the Native Title Act 1993) to make the native title determination application and deal with all matters arising under the Native Title Act (Cth) in relation to it. (N.B. The Woppaburra Claim Group may choose to replace, reappoint, or add new members to the existing Applicant).
