avid Kempton, Member for Cook, officially opened office and staff accommodation facilities at Bamaga this week for the Northern Peninsula Area Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Service (ATODS). Mr Kempton said the project included an office for the service to work from and duplex accommodation for two staff members, a team leader and a
clinical nurse. He said the aim of the Queensland Government’s alcohol reforms was to reduce alcoholrelated harm, especially to children, women and other vulnerable community members. “Funding from the state and federal governments allows us to construct facilities like these so ATODS and others teams can improve services and partnerships between government and community,’’ Mr Kempton said. “These partnerships are critical
to deliver real change in reform communities, including support for positive leadership and actions. “The office space is ideally situated at the Bamaga Hospital with the accommodation within walking distance. “It is great to see that with facilities such as these funded by the state and federal governments, staff are better equipped to work towards reducing levels of violence and alcohol-related injuries in the Northern Peninsula.”
