rom breastfeeding tips to immunisation information, Apunipima Cape York Health Council and Remote Indigenous Broadcast Services 4ACR are bringing child health to Cape homes. Apunipima’s nurse and midwife Robyn Grierson (pictured) is informing the Hopevale community about child and family health each week on a segment called Mums and Bubs Yarning. A Registered Nurse, midwife, child and family health nurse and lactation consultant, Ms Grierson features on 4ACR with station manager and announcer Russell Gibson as they conduct a 30 to 60 minute show each Wednesday from

the Hopevale studio. Ms Grierson talks about anything and everything related to child health from speech and language development, immunisations, pregnancy and foetal development to the importance of washing hands. “Tomorrow on the show I’ll talk about Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and the importance of mums-to-be not consuming alcohol when pregnant, not to smoke and all the associated things that contribute to a positive pregnancy and family life,” Ms Grierson said. Ms Grierson will be on the station and talk about simple child health tips that can make a difference. “Sometimes when a baby can’t latch onto mum, I will get mum to place baby in the middle of her

chest and the child will naturally go to the left or right side of mum and then all mum has to do is support baby’s head. “Invaluable information like this can be a lifesaver for families.” Tune into Mums and Bubs Yarning each Wednesday from 9am-9.30am, on 104.5 FM. Listeners are encouraged to phone in on 4060 9383 with questions during the segment. Apunipima Cape York Health Council advises listeners and callers not to act or rely solely upon information contained in these broadcasts without seeking the advice of your GP or specialist. If you have any questions about the information or opinions expressed during these broadcasts please contact your doctor.
