n the one year anniversary of its launch, new Aboriginal business 33 Creative is proving it has what it takes to do business successfully, working on a variety of projects for government and non-government organisations throughout the year. Founded by former Deadly Vibe Group Head of Events, Wiradjuri woman, NITV media personality and MC Mayrah Sonter and former Deadly Vibe Group CEO Georgia Cordukes, 33 Creative began with a vision to continue to produce communications, media and events for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as they had done in the past, but also to bring new approaches to their work. With the goal to Engage, Inspire and Empower, in its first year 33 Creative has worked across health, business, education

and reconciliation for the NSW Government, the Commonwealth Government, Reconciliation Australia, the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives, the Black Dog Institute, NSW Kids and Families, Inside Policy, Australian Law Reform Commission, Melbourne Business School, City of Sydney, the Aboriginal Employment Strategy, the Aboriginal Medical Health and Research Council, VTech and Indigenous Business Australia in their first year. More recently, 33 Creative successfully launched the inaugural Indigenous Business Month which aimed to develop the understanding of what an Indigenous business is through showcasing success stories and breaking down some of the stereotypes about working with Indigenous businesses. For Wiradjuri woman Mayrah
Sonter, being in business has been one of her most rewarding experiences yet. “For me it’s about getting to do good work for my people and work with amazing, inspiring people every day,” she says. “I feel empowered as an Aboriginal business owner in creating my own future. I get to challenge myself and feel I am constantly learning and growing. Launching Indigenous Business Month from an idea to fruition has been the highlight for me so far.” For former Deadly Vibe Group CEO Georgia Cordukes there is a sense of pride in the journey from business launch to meeting the first year milestone with success. “We are proud to have been in business for one year today, and to be growing and developing,” she says. “We have built 33 Creative on the foundations laid by our work

at the Deadly Vibe Group, and are strongly committed to continue to create media, communications and events which engage, empower and inspire the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. “It has been a healing journey for us all, and as we grow and bring more of the old team together to do great work, this strengthens our desire to continue to thrive.” And 33 Creative is going from
strength to strength, recruiting former Deadly Vibe® magazine editor Jake Keane and Head of Public Relations Maryann Weston to work on 33 Creative projects, as well as many of the Deadly Vibe staff who regularly consult to 33 Creative. “I would like to acknowledge Deadly Vibe founder, the late Gavin Jones and thank him for being a mentor and friend and helping
develop my entrepreneurial spirit,” Georgia says. It’s a sentiment felt by many of the 33 Creative staff as they continue to produce quality media, national and local events, and communications and marketing strategies that aim to engage, inspire and empower community.
