Recognition for years of community and legal work by Kate Finlayson 24 September 2013
A
field officer with over 40 years experience working in the community and legal sector has been awarded a national honour. Wiradjuri woman Lynnette Kilby (pictured) who has worked with Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ ACT) in their Griffith office for nearly 15 years, has been awarded the Trevor Christian Memorial Award - ATSILS’ Employee of the Year, an award sponsored by the Australian Government AttorneyGeneral’s department. Phil Naden, CEO of ALS, says the award is well deserved for an outstanding employee. “It’s a great credit to Lynnette, and to the ALS, that she has been recognised at the national level from such a competitive field of applicants. “Lyn has worked with the ALS for nearly 15 years and during that time has made considerable effort in ensuring community members are supported in their dealings with the court. “Lyn has worked tirelessly to ensure more vulnerable members of the community receive additional services to support them through the judicial and custodial process. “She displays a commitment and empathy to her client group that is exceptional and is valued by the wider community. “While her passion has always been Aboriginal affairs, Lyn has
shown brilliant leadership and dedication towards everyone in the community. “We nominated Lyn for this award as she is one of the most exceptional Field Officers to have worked for the ALS in NSW.”
“Lyn will be provided the opportunity to attend the next national ATSILS (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services) meeting in Adelaide to accept this prestigious award.”
